I find it hard to relate too, nothing in the lyrics speaks to me.
Some of its alright though, don't mind Jurassic 5 and a few others.

Pretty much this. I'm sure there's some good stuff in the genre, but I don't have the inclination to sift through all the crap to get to it. Too much "bustin' cops," and "bangin' ho's" for my taste.Zhukov said:I'm have no doubt that somewhere in the world there exists some truly awesome rap music.
However, I will never hear that music because I will have reached for the off switch within three seconds of it starting.
There's actually a rather good rap parody of rap music done by two Slovenian guys, but what with the language barriers for everyone, I don't think posting it here would accomplish much, since you'd have to understand the lyrics...Zhukov said:I'm have no doubt that somewhere in the world there exists some truly awesome rap music.

Lucky for you there's an entire thread full of good rap to listen toRisingblade said:The last rap song I heard had a part where the singer wanted to cut off a woman's head then rape her. Eh...I know there are good rap songs but the bad ones are just so common that I don't want to even search for the good.

I don't like coffee.
I can mostly say the same for Metal and it's Emo, fuck the world messages. And Country songs that pretty much go on about nothing. Every genre has tons of shit in it along with the good stuff. You Don't particularly like rap. Fine. But calling the whole medium mostly drivel just shows a high level of ignorance and bias I only see in the older generations.ThreeName said:Doesn't the word "generic" say that it is indeed the prevalent type? The generic stuff, by definition, is enough to make an assumption on.
I know that there's a thousand rap artists out there that make good stuff. But the medium, by and large, is infected with drivel. By extension, the medium itself is mostly drivel and thus dismissable by the average person.
EDIT: Also just for the record, the amount of people calling Macklemore "though provoking" or "deep" is making me sick.
