My first response was that of what many people on the internet most likely thought.

"Ha! This officially sanctioned mod manager will never dethrone the all mighty Nexus!"

However, after using it my reaction was.

"What kind of sorcery is this!?"

It requires literally one button press to install any mod, its just so easy!

The only thing they need to add is the ability to customize mods that have customization available through the workshop.

Plus, it works well in parallel with the Nexus mod manager.

Now, maybe it'll convince mod makers to start making their mods easy to use rather than giving a huge list of unclear installation instructions.

Mod makers are the worst marketers I have ever seen.

I feel the search function needs to be better. Also, I wish valve would just add a "workshop" button to the main nav bar.

I'm not a huge old rusted fan making some unnecessary noises because of unnecessary external objects are in the way of my wings of mods, but I like it nonetheless, mostly because of it's ease.

You download the file and copy paste it into your data folder... how much simpler could that be?

OT though, yeah I find the workshop more accessible but wasn't overly bothered about doing it the old fashioned way.

Definatly makes it less hassle to try out lots of different mods and remove them if need be.

I've hardly installed any mods that are that simple...

They often just say 'install these dependencies:' without describing how to, or to offer a list of files without explaining which ones you need, or to just respond to all questions with 'read the description again'.

Yes, lots of mods are easy. Lots of mod makers are good at writing instructions and making it simple, but some people are clearly good programmers, but terrible at communicating. I think some of the blame (at least for Elder Scrolls mods) has to go to Nexus for having an awful file hosting interface though...

The finding of the mods is terrible but the entire process is SO simple :D.

It used to be "put these in data, put these in main, get this, add that, edit this."

Now its "Click Me."

/ohoho

It's a wonderful tool that has actually made me like Skyrim more, which I was surprised about.

I do love the workshop, but some of the mods get banned for some reason. In my neck of the woods its R18+, so I can't understand why the child killing and nude mods are getting banned? I figured Bethesda didn't do the child killing, so a modder can do so and they woundn't get any flak.

I will be using nexus and other sources to acquire mods without censorship. Though it is good those who otherwise oblivious to modding community can still experience mods.

Indeed.

OT: I like it. I know some people who like to load up a lot of relatively complex mods at once don't like it because you can't change the load order, but if you're using fairly simple tweaks, and stuff that's not going to conflict, its brilliant.

The last time I visited a Nexus site, it was more like a visual metaphor for someone's stream of consciousness, as opposed to an actual website to be used by people. They're a pain in the arse to navigate, and then trying to read other people's instructions... fucking hell.

In conclusion: it could be better, but if you're only interested in a few normal-sized mods, or you've never modded before, its great.

I'm liking it a lot, it's easy, simple to use and (so far) has not caused me any problems whatsoever.

Not had any need for it yet. Not played Skyrim in a while, and I was using Skyrim Nexus' mod downloader to download and install by clicking a button...;)

Maybe I'll use it later on. Only been using it too browse through the TF2 items...and lots of bad, lots of good items there.

It's so damn useful, I love it.Haven't had any problems with it except on thing, all the music has suddenly dissapeared from the game. Not the sounds, only the music. What is up with that. But that's hardly the workshop's fault, I download mods at my own risk of course.

Seems like a good idea so far, the 50 mod limit seems a bit restrictive at first but once a lot of the chaff mods are out of the way and some more expansive mods come out it will be pretty sweet. I'm looking forward to playing around with it some more as I like trying out mods for my games and there are some pretty fantastic ones out there. This just makes managing thema little easier.

Im reasonably new to PC gaming and when skyrim came out was looking at the '3rd party' mods. having never used a mode before the instructions on installation was confusing and minimal at best. I was happy to see this feature added as its so eassyy to use. Thankyou creation kit.

It seems to be working fine. Still gonna mostly stick to the Nexus though.

those are for the simple skins and weapon/armor add ons, there are alot more that require alot more tweaking, and anytime you have to uninstall/tweak mods to be compatible, it infinitely becomes a ***** to deal with when it's huge/something to do beyond the basic copy/paste. (that is, if you do all this manually, with a mod manager/steam workshop, the hard parts of it become infinitely easier.)

Am I seriously the only one aware that the Nexus Mod Manager has been around for ages and takes about 2 more clicks per mod than the Workshop? The way people are talking here you would think modding used to be some long, complicated process, but it hasnt been that way for ages.
alot of mods aren't 100% compatible with NMM, unfortunately since alot of authors are too lazy or they don't know what they are doing with it. My friend that i've been "training" in installing mods and learning how to make them tries to run everything through NMM and his skyrim is a fucking mess.

OT: I will say the workshop is great, for casuals/basic modding, it is as simple as a click, literally, but beyond that it becomes a bit of a problem and i still prefer NMM or just manually doing it, because then i at least KNOW what i did and where i put it.
