Words are only offensive in context. I find **** particularly interesting though because of the reaction it can generate from just saying it, even if you're just discussing the English language in an educational context. You can feel the tension in the room.
I'm pretty desensitised to it, probably from hearing Charlie Brooker say it all the time (vaguely relevant clip):

It's practically used as punctuation round these parts. It's often even used as a positive expression - to be know as a "sound ****" or "good ****" is an expression of admiration or fondness often to be heard in use in favoured pubs, bus stops, swing parks and anywhere else people gather to imbibe alcohol around here.

The word "****" doesn't bother me in the slightest, in fact no swear word bothers me. I use them and couldn't give a fuck about others using them.

I don't find any swear words particularly offensive. I feel the whole idea of swear words to be idiotic. It's the intent and tone of the word that makes it hurtful, not the word itself.

Moist. That is the worst word in the english language. Just imagine your grandma saying it. It will destroy your mind.

I've always thought **** sounds like some sort of cake ingredient. Tell me you wouldn't like to eat a cunting bun, or even a pastry ****?
It's because it sounds like bundt cake.

I could go for some cundt cake, myself.

Honestly there isn't a swear word that shocks me anymore. It's the way they are used that matters now, not the words themselves.

Vulgar words are nothing compared to pathetic, sad, and those types of words.

"Slut".

I think "implying that a girl is screws around with guys very easily" is one of the worst thing you can accuse a girl from.
Totally agree with you. I could walk away from being called a C*nt I think but, well, i'd walk away from slut too but I think I would take it a bit harder. Especially because it's so unfair that a guy gets called a stud for sleeping around while a woman is looked down on.
That double standard really annoys me and I'm a man. What I find really sad is that where I live at least, it seems to be women who use it more than men. It's a relic from the days when a woman, god forbid, actually enjoying sex was considered a mental illness.

If I had to pick one, I?d say it?s ?************?. Unlike ?****?, which is simply a woman?s vagina, you?re literally telling a person that he has sex with his mother.

But curses are merely singular words that only hold significant meaning if you choose to imply such to them. After all, offense is subjective. Even the aforementioned "************" and its abbreviation "mofo" are used casually, as greetings, etc.

Hmmm well i'd say its a combination of swear words that form the worst. "****" to me isn't that bad cause its just like saying dick with a little more edge. To me, when I hear "Fucking asshole," that's when shits getting real. But that's just my personal opinion.

****** can be pretty bad too if actually used as an insult but the term is so loosely thrown around on the internet and with friends now that i'm so used to it. Even when I hear it as an actual insult towards a true homosexual I don't automatically register it as a insult.

It's a word, the same as the ones you are reading now. Being all shocked by a word is a little silly.

As for being offended 1)you are offended, so what? Nothing happens to you, nothing changes, except for the fact for half a second you feel a little uncomfortable. 2) There are much worse things that you should be offended by than a lousy word.

I live in australia, the normal way of asking someone to get out of the way is "oi **** move!" not that big a deal.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that words like fuck and **** are considered offensive but the words sex and vagina aren't when the words actually have the same meaning.
