Overall, I guess I would say Chrono Trigger, Cross, or Final Fantasy IV.

For other than first place, I'd have to say games like Okami, Donkey Kong Country 2, Final Fantasy IX, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, Seiken Densetsu 3, and a few others.

Some of the most memorable music in video gaming history.

Homeworld 2.

And I don't think it, I know it. I submit this evidence to prove my case.

The first song always gives me shivers when that really deep, strings kick in. Totally awesome. The Arabic inspire music also really helps to add a sort of mystique to the wandering nomads that the Hygarian forces had become, it was a really amazing choice.
This.

Also, say what you like about Call of Duty - But Modern Warfare 2 had a an amazing score. Well, it's Hans Zimmer.

Minecrafts random tunes where pretty good to...

Shadow of the Colossus without a doubt.

This thread literally comes up once a week now as well.

To this day I can not get the several whimsical, iconic songs from Katamari Damacy out of my head.

I'm surprised Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger have got hardly any mentions at all, particularly the former. The only mitagating circumstance here is that they're over a decade and a half old at this point, but there's a reason they've more or less held the de facto title of "Best Soundtrack(s) in Gaming" for all that time.

Really, has anything surpassed the opera scene in FFVI?
The Aria de Mezzo Carattere is a legend, period.

The Opera Scene[/youtube]

And hopefully that's the SNES version I linked above, the "better" translation & audio in the GBA port doesn't quie have the same charm (in my opinion).

Come on guys, there are other games that were made before this console generation. I'm going with a three way tie between Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy IV an Chrono Cross:

Ohhh man, that really takes me back!! Started doing a play through of it on my ps3 a few years ago, but never got around to finishing the game. It had a pretty great story too, now I wanna go home and play...

Just fantastic, sure the Warcraft series has some pretty good themes, but "A call to arms" from Warcraft 3 takes the cake.
Say what you will about WoW, but the warcraft franchise has produced, hands down, the most varied and epic library of music in all of gaming.
Call to Arms is one of the best. Drums of War (the song for original WoW cinematic) is excellent as well. But i think the best one has got to be the song from the Wrath of the Lich King cinematic 'Arthas, my son,' and its expanded choral version 'Invincible'. Its ominous and mournful.

Most games tire me with their music and I end up shutting it off. Two games are exception Bastion and the Red Alert series (with an extension to almost all C&C games) Frank Klepacki is awesome :D

Either Parappa the Rapper (mostly because of Prince Fleaswallow) or Little Big Planet.

I do love this song from L4D2 though. It definitely captures "Creepy, uneasy, ominous zombie apocalypse in the deep south" well.

I would never be able to put my finger on my favourite video game soundtrack, but recently I have been gaining appreciation for the soundtrack to Earthbound. It's got quite a variety; everything from a rocking tune (Pokey Means Business), or catchy jingles that will be stuck in your head for days (Enjoy Your Stay), to creepy songs that I would advise not listening to at night (the final battle with Giygas).

Dragon Age (both Origins and 2), Inon Zur and Aubrey Ashburn... absolutely phenomenal. The theme really captured the entire game perfectly, particularly in Origins. DA2 didn't quite pull off the gritty feel of the DA world in the same way its predecessor did. Hopefully the next will.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift; and every iteration of it.

Hell, every BlazBlue game. Even the cutest looking characters like Platinum have epic theme songs.

Me too man, tho my play through fell by the wayside after all the holiday releases. I think I left off right before confronting Elmdore and his two cronies for the second time. The battle music when you first confront those three on the roof has got to be some of the most intense battle music ever.

Tough one. Portal 2 has an amazing soundtrack as does Red Dead Revolver (I have both on my iPod).

Though for best original soundtrack I'll have to go with Bastion. Just beautiful. Play that game it it brilliant.

This.

As an alternative I remind people to listen to the 25 year anniversary orchestrated Zelda soundtrack.

Bastion, Shadow Hearts 2, or Chrono Trigger.

Of course, I have a lot to choose from [http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_ltk1tvWPcj1r4el5uo1_r1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323368865&Signature=qIeP2gxRL6GwaRTnc7a36qpllqU%3D], and deciding is hard.

600 AD's Yearnings of Wind was always a favorite of mine. Truly awesome.

And for all of the mention of Blue Blaze where's the love for Bang Shishigami's song?
