I think of an uptight, sexually repressed, brainwashed puppet, standing up in front of a crowd of similarly uptight, sexually repressed brainwashed puppets, spewing disgusting nonsense about the dangers of people having fun. For this, they meet the applause of stupid, empty-headed dipshits, proving once again that humanity is the reactionary, willfully ignorant species of hairless apes that it has always been.

Slavery, lynchings, suicide bombers and corruption.

More of an international thing than just Denmark though, here it mainly refers to church, monarchy, conscription and keeping Muslims out.

Not the biggest fan of the phrase, I'll admit.

When I hear it, I usually become utterly repulsed. To be more specific, when I hear it, I think "preservation of the current situation", which to me, basically means lucky people that stand to gain from the way things are saying "don't fuck up my way of life and my world with your progressive bullshit."

It also implies a level of thoughtlessness to me as well, as it seems to be one of those terms that people at large can throw around without really even knowing what it means if they don't like a particular person or group. Don't like "x" group? Then they must be lacking in traditional values/moral fiber!

Maybe it partly has something to do with the fact that I recently separated myself from religion(like about nine months ago) and so I probably have a lot more discontent for that part of my past than the average person.

"Hey, kids! Drop those sharp sticks! We kill our food with our bare hands! Why? Because that's just the way we do it, that's why! New things bad! Old things good! Etc. etc. strawman etc."

Yeah, just because something is old and has worked in the past doesn't mean that it should be preferred over the new thing that might work better. Of course, by the same token, the new thing that might work better might not, so it shouldn't necessarily be preferred over the old thing. Test shit, is what I'm saying.

And fuck traditional marriage. With a sharpened rock.

Angry, middle aged Japanese men in yukatas chasing Gaijin with katanas.

For a more western version, a fedora-donning salary man, with a hard-working wife who toils all day to get the house clean and dinner served by sex, who raise their children to be "god fearin'" straight people.

Neither is particuarly good. Although the first is more comical. And true in today's modernism.
Was that intentional?

OT: I just associate it with being far to resistant to change and being stuck in old ways without considering the new ways or alternate view points.

The Phrase doesn't mean anything. When people say "Traditional Values" they are implying that a specific period of their time had worthy values and that we don't have those values today or that no one else had those values. That's nonsense. Worthy and Unworthy Values have existed throughout all of time and will continue to exist throughout all of time. The idea that one set of values from the Past are inherently better than the values of today is nonsense. Values change throughout time, usually for the better, and anyone who uses the phrase "Traditional Values" strikes me as someone who is afraid of change - which is about as sensible as being afraid of the change of seasons.

Scared old white folks' idea of how society should look. Otherwise known as completely irrelevant.

Theoretically it means basically the values the society of the speaker's youth held. But the only people who use it are the aforementioned scared bigots, so at this point all it means is being racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic/generally hateful to all but people who look just like you.

Christian fundamentalism, anti gay marriage or anti woman in the workforce because that is usually when that comes up. Generally used by people who can't support their arguments beyond "it was done this way for a long time and is therefore automatically right and we shouldn't examine it".

Pretty much what others have stated. Tradition has an honored place in our society, and I suspect that I value it more highly than most on this board. However, it is all too often used as an excuse for behavior that absolutely should not be acceptable in the modern world.

This pic shows what I've always thought about "traditional values" better than I ever could describe:

Do you remember the leave it to the saints level of Saints Row 4? And if not, have you ever seen one of those instructional videos from the 50s by companies like centron? You know, the ones that get riffed in shorts on MST3k? That's what I think of when I hear "Traditional Values".

Nothing really since I it doesn't have comparison in my own language.
But if I would have to think: traditional values would imply the last generations values.
