I hope Yooka-Laylee brings back open world 3D Platformer Collectathons. That's what I hope the next wave of Video games is; the return of 3D open world platforming in order to collect important items. I just hope people who make these games get how they're supposed to work, and not make a bunch of boring empty worlds that completely miss the point of 3D Platforming Collectathons.

Hero shooters will stick around for another year or two, it's not dead yet.

I'm hoping musicals or westerns come back.
Ooh, yes... bring back the western. Or gothc style horror. Or combine the two like Pinnacle's Deadlands did in RPG form. Actually western is good for genre crossover. Sci-fi + western... Firefly. So why not fantasy + western. Like Harry Potter in the old west. Or western noir... actually that's just "Hell on Wheels" so it already exists.
Ok, I happen to HATE westerns 90% of the time (I hate the time period in general), but give me a Deadlands game where I can be a mad scientist inventing tesla cannons out of screaming rocks to take out creepy monsters at the behest of Zombie Abe Lincoln and I will be HYPED AS HELL.

As for gothic horror, HELL YES. Give me a proper successor to Eternal Darkness!

I am experiancing the Fantasy Wave.

Witcher expansions.

Warhammer Total War

Game of Thrones Season 6

Warcraft Movie.

And World of Warcraft Legion (Which imo is shaping up to be a much better expansion than Warlords of Draenor)

Eh...not so much.

In games, fantasy stuff is a dime a dozen. That's not to knock the individual examples, but I don't think fantasy has become the "next big thing." Or at least, I don't see waves of imitators. With the superhero craze, we've see the genre become the cultural zeitgeist, with Sony and DC trying to emulate the MCU. In contrast, GoT is insanely popular, but what's actually been made that follows in its footsteps and actually rivals it? Shannara? Haven't seen it, but it's certainly not the next big thing. Wheel of Time? Well, we know a TV series is in production, but that's about it. Lord of the Rings? I liked the Hobbit films, but they don't have the staying power of LotR, and won't nearly be as timeless. The Dark Tower? Well, it's finally being made, but again, the proof is in the pudding. Even when LotR came out, what actually rivalled it in the cinema-space? Eragon? Heh, no. Chronicles of Narnia? I quite liked the first film adaptation, but it never reached the same popularity. Apart from that...um...

Wouldn't mind more fantasy stuff, but outside games, I don't see it that much. But, for the record, can I get a Mistborn movie trilogy? Pretty please?

Other than that, too many movies based off video games! We already have 5 coming out this year alone!
Five? I'm aware of Ratchet & Clank, Warcraft, Assassin's Creed, and Angry Birds. What's the fifth one?

You talk as though zombies will ever stop. I really doubt that.
Zombies and vampires are the cyclical undead monsters. When the economy is bad we get zombies, evil vampires, and other terrifying monsters like dragons going on rampages. When the economy is good, we get romantic vampires, heroic monsters, and zombies fade into the background for a while. When things are rough, people want horrible evil monster and Armageddon, when things are going well, people want moral and good monsters and Utopias.

Personally I think the next big thing is going to be video game based movies, character class shooters(like TF2 and Overwatch), with a possible vampire resurgence on screen and a flood of space exploration/combat games... In the latter case that's only if the economy continues to improve and remains mostly stable. Also police dramas are starting to get stale on TV, so there are probably going to be more sitcoms and period piece shows coming soon.

Could be Sly Cooper. According to this Trailer, it's coming in 2016.

Y'know, I'd completely forgotten about that. I thought it had been delayed though, but at least according to Wikipedia, it's still coming out in 2016.

Forgot about Sly Cooper too. But there are apparently even more adaptations in the making (not for 2016 but still...). Splinter Cell for example and Watch_Dog... and another bloody Resident Evil Movie...

*sigh*

I think we are getting a revival of 90's stuff.

Doom got a very successful new game that follows the style of the originals. Thimbleweed Park is basically a 90's adventure game.

We've also been getting classic videogame genres back with the likes of Xcom. I guess that trend will continue.

I think that as the new Doom shows game stories will start to get toned down. Less 20 minute cutscenes, QTEs and control taken away from the player and more procedural stories created by the gameplay mechanics and environment.

I think we will continue having superhero movies for a while, but we will get more epic, magical and cosmic movies starting with Doctor Strange and continuing with Infite War movies. Space movies are here to stay and they were surely missed. Star Wars, Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy will be around from a long while.

The golden era of TV will surely continue and we are surely going to get high quality stuff for a long while.

We will also start getting more and more GOOD videogame adaptations on cinema too. AssCreed and Warcraft will start the trend.

Sci-Fi is rising at the moment.

R-Ratings are rising.

Fantasy, at least movie-wise, is on the decline. It probably never will fall flat anymore for games, but Sci-Fi seems to be they way to go at this moment.

Except you do it half-way, like Advanced Warfare has done and Infinity War most likely will do. Don't confuse their success with their artistic value, which for me at least covers the theme like Sci-Fi. CoDs are successful because they nailed down the gameplay and the setting was pleasing enough for the longest time.

But I expect more stuff Alien-like or Blade Runner or Deus Ex or Star Wars or Warhammer 40k if they don't mess it up.

The continuing trend in Super Hero movies is only thanks to Marvel and its diversity. If Marvel would fuck up on top of Warner, people will get bored by the genre as a whole. Same goes with games.
