So with the Xbone reveal being the disaster that it was and the PS4 getting ready to enter the arena, what is it that you as a gamer want from the next gen of consoles? If you had the money to create your own system, what is it that you would do to make it the best next-gen system out there? Do you have a hook, something that would make it undeniably different than any other system on the market?

Sound off Escapists, build the ultimate game console!

It plays games . Has free multiplayer . Doesn't require me to put in a code or make an account for every game .

Back to basics bassically .

I want games. Like, lots of them. I don't care for tacked-on BS.

EDIT: I would also insist on backwards compatibility, local co-op and please no always-online BS since I don't want to depend on my shoddy internet connection at this point. But all of these are a given I've always taken for granted.

Aside from the obvious of being able to play games there is nothing else that I actually want in a console. That being said I do like all of the extras that are getting thrown are way and they as well as exclusives will directly effect if I buy a certain console or not.

Take this generation for example. Early on all things were pretty much equal except that one had a bluray player and the other made you pay for online. That directly effected which console I bought and in the long run several of my friends as well.

A lot of the xbox ones extras while things I had never considered are actually looking really nice.

Games, lots of games. I'd have the extras too (apps and all the tv stuff) but they're not the reason to buy the console just nice little extras, the nice crispy lettuce that goes on the side of my steak dinner.
More or less this though I will add that I buy more local multiplayer/co-op games than anything else because when I do play games half of the time it is with friends and I am not going to tell my friends to buy another copy of the game, pay for gold and send them home just to play with them. I like to have a few friends over and crash on the couch and shoot the shit with some fun local multiplayer.

Well obviously plenty of games to play. That's all I really need.

Of course, the ability to download older games from systems past is certainly a plus as well. And from what I've heard, while the PS4 doesn't have backwards compatibility right now, Sony is looking for a way around that.

I wanted them to be very convenient as the old saying that goes "you just pop it in and it works", that stays behind the curve in graphics and makes games less expensive, that has a normal controller and that is backwards compatible with the previous one if possible.

A little cost effective power house, that can play online games and is backwards compatible. NOTHING MORE!

I don't want anything else, do not want photos on it, music on it, films on it, I don't want netflix (or the like), I don't want facebook, I don't want sharing, I don't want Move 2.0, I don't want a light bar, I don't want six axis and I don't want a touch screen.

I would go back to cartridges. With cartridges you don't need a hard disk or DVD/Bluray drive and you don't need much RAM. You cut out a big chuck of the hardware cost compared to PC and can pretty much just have a CPU and a graphics card and it will run as well as a PC costing far more.

Of course carts are expensive, so they'll probably be limited to say 3GB while the next gen uses 50GB Bluray disks. But it won't make as much difference as the comparison between CDs and 32MB carts in the mid 1990s. The difference was pretty stark back then because there are so many things that can't be done with 32MB

mouse and keyboard input. I can't play FPS or RTS on consoles at all, it's like the controller is my kryptonite.

I want it to play games. I don't want it to stream TV shows, or for the Internet, or anything else. I just want to play games on it.

Id like to be able to stream my xbox to my android tablet throught the internet and have the tablet work as a controller So I can remotely play it on the go or at very least on the toilet. I would really enjoy fully backwards compatible systems I dont like having to hook up 6 systems next to all the tvs in my house it's a pain in the ass.

Lots of great games, free online support, backwards compatibility in some form, no unnecessary social networking BS I'll never use, no required install of games that I bought retail.

Focus on good games, not just lots of games (Wii anybody?). No gimmicks like motion control or touch screens. Ergonomic controller (maybe different size controllers too). Free online, no activation codes or always online crap. Good hardware for developers to work with. Having Netflix/ Hulu is about as far as I want tv services to go. Less emphasis on social networking and internet browsing. Oh and a manufacturer who cares about gamers and they're wants.
