I have never heard of a naval battle in 40K lore.

Space battles on the other hand are featured heavily and would be a great addition.

As for me:

*DoW 1 style gameplay but with some of the features of DoW II (attacking vehicles from behind does more damage, taking cover etc)
*Firestrom Over Kronus variety of units.
*Much larger maps and battles.
*Base building.
*Unique campaigns.
*Ian Gregory...what, he was a great voice actor!
*Air units, but with better versatility and variety than Soulstorm.
*More detailed army customization (like being able to upload images for banners).
*Give Chaos the option to choose their path (Nurgle, Khorne, Tzeentch, Slaneesh, Undivided) and have respective units for the paths (Plague marines, Berzerkers, Rubric Marines, Sound Marines etc.).
*All four greater daemons of chaos (Great Unclean One, Bloodthirster, Lord of Change, Keeper of Secrets).

Races;

*Space Marines
*Imperial Guard
*Daemon Hunters
*Witch Hunters
*Orks! Orks! Orks!
*Eldar
*Dark Eldar
*Chaos
*Necrons
*Tau
*Tyranids

Base building or base expansion would be nice. If the base is going to stay static, we should be able to make it bigger ala Halo Wars.

Races? I'll vouch for the Adepta Sororitas, seeing as no one has mentioned them yet.

Space battles would be neat. Army Painter needs more color patterns.

The Sisters of Battle basically come under the Witch Hunters, or Ordo Hereticus.

I'd love to see:
- DoW1 gameplay (but on an even larger scale dependent on army type i.e. 1 squad of space marines is 10 dudes, but 1 squad of guardsman is 25 at a minimum).
- FIX THE PATHFINDING
- Ditch that lame-ass DoW2 (maybe rename it Dawn of Wannabe, or Dreams of Pretension or something) and make a real DoW2.
- A multilayered campaign - space, air and land, have different theatre's of battle taking place at the same time rather than following one small army as it staggers drunkenly around a global map
- Persistent, developing armies ala Total War and similar games. I want a reason to get attached to my troops rather than throwing them mindlessly at the enemy and grinding out another 50 units. Unless you're playing Guard. Then that's exactly what you should be doing.
- Some real story mechanics behind the missions, rather than the fairly pathetic "take over the whole planet 'cause we said so" mechanics of DC and Soulstorm. That wasn't a campaign, it was just a graphically driven "Quick Battle" menu.
- FIX THE PATHFINDING
- Ditch standard resource management and either a) run on a global resource system that you use to build bases and recruit units into your persistent armies (kinda like what DC and SS tried to do and sucked so horribly at) or b) run everything on the only resource that really matters in W40K - TIME.
- Destructible terrain. I want my Earthshakers to be able to tear up the terrain, making it difficult for the enemy to cross etc.
- Smarter unit AI. Having a unit maintain its perfect square formation so that only half the unit gets cover from a crater or whatever is mentally retarded. Also, you should have more control over the AI of the unit, rather than the unit itself. This is RTS - Real Time Strategy. Not Real Time Handholding And Nosewiping. Micro belongs in small games. DoW should be sweeping and epic. I flat guarantee a Warmaster or Lord General does NOT send individual orders to each and every unit and trooper.
- Also, enough pretending that anybody is a nice guy or heroic in W40K. They're all psychopathic loonies and should be reflected as such.
- Shoot whichever writer came up with some of the ridiculous speeches etc. in DoW. Sphess Mehreens might be excellent comedy, but it's rubbish immersion.
- Make research global and persistent. Researching Plasma Guns (or whatever) every single map is ridiculous.

Private: ZOMG! Look, sir! A plasma gun!
Sarge: Didn't we have those last map too?
P: Yeah, but we zoned, right. That means we forget everything and leave most of our troops behind, sir.
S: Isn't that kind of a waste of resources?
P: Well, sir. That's imperial policy, sir. Something about making generals value their equipment or something.

In the first space wolf novel the main character Ragnar fights a sea dragon while on his fathers fishing boat. Not sure if that counts as a battle though.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, but still there aren't really any naval battles in 40K.
Who needs ships when you have spaceships?

I want to be able to carry over my save files. Unlike someone who's name starts with R and ends with bution.

I'd argue that this is much more in the way of flavour text.

After all, half the dudes in the Imperial Guard used to be farmers (or whatever), and discussing the weather and future wheat prices isn't exactly on the menu in 40K either! :D

- More units. If its a hellish future I want to see hellish combat. I want total war 1,000 + units on each side level of combat.

- destructible terrain.

- Custom army.

- Air units. Its been a while since I played DOW but I want air units.

- Bigger maps. Way bigger maps.

- Not sure if its canon, but space battles and Sea battles?

If it manages to fit within canon, great. If some don't I would still play it. I am not an expert in warhammer canon, only Fallout canon.

There's a few in the Horus Heresy series. Specifically in Fulgrim, I believe.

Yeah that didn't make any sense to me, you could do it in Chaos Rising so why not Retribution?

I've already killed 2500 enemy units with my Mekboy!!!!!

I think it was because there were multiple races you could play as in that expansion. Still annoying though.

Or maybe the transition from Games for Windows Live to Steam?

That shouldn't be it, it's just importing a save file. And both are stored in the My Games folder.

I'd like to get a warhammer game that was a more like a warhammer simulation than an RTS. An RTS can only hold my attention so long-- i want to raid necron tombworlds for artifacts, cruise the warp in my ship, visit planets and purge heretics... decorate my quarters with war trophies and detail my power armor.

Fucking hell Relic, how long is it going to take you to release another? You've released one CoH game, yet you've pumped out 3 DoW games in the past 5 years.
Are they still suckling at the teat of the Warhammer nerds?
I think problem with CoH is that... CoH + expacs pretty much used up the whole WW2 setting. Sure you could add Red Army and Japaneese or Itallian troops into it, or maybe even a campaign with Afrika Corps, but there is not much material to really make a new game rather than expansion.
The franchise seemed to go the way of free2play CoH Online instead.

Now as for next Dow, i'd like to see more open singleplayer, Retribution was close to what Dark Crusade offered but still could be improved with bit less linearity, maybe even brng back base siege mission in some form. Would be nice to have IG from the start, bring back Tau, split Chaos into into more god oriented choices, maybe find a way to add chapter specific units depending on choice for SM...and give me my Inquisition in full glory.

I want them to:
- blend DoW1 and 2 combat, i.e. you deploy with your elite team then take over a base spot where you can build up and reinforce, plus attaching your elite squads to normal ones
- keep the RPG upgrade elements, and even extend them to buildings and normal units
- remove the pointless drops, somany times the monsters drop useless shit that should just turn into XP directly, I don't want to be on mop up duty for 15 minutes after every mission
- extend elite squad equip inventory to more of the team members, it's so stupid when only one guy get's to carry a good weapon
- and a good long campaign, DoW2 was ridiculously short, not to mention there was only one race... wtf

Much larger scale. All the DoW2 games so far have been focused on a small number of squads slaughtering cannon fodder. This is a bit boring at this point. I'd preffer a return to the large scale battles of the originals, maybe even a bit larger. I still remember the first time I played the original DoW, watching squads of Blood Ravens exchange fire with the Ork horde while a Dreadnaught waded in and started executing dudes up close. It was epic and I was in love.

DoW2 isn't a bad game, it's quite good actually. But the small scale was inadequately compensated by the special abilities and such, leaving a weaker game.

Finally, I'd like them to spend more time on pathfinding. DoW1 had atrocious pathfinding and units would get stuck on everything, including themselves. DoW2 is a bit less of a disaster, mostly due to the smaller scale, but there's still work to be done. I hope they get it right the next time.

That.

I'd also like to see space battles, less focus on Space Marines, include all of the races, and fuller unit rosters for each given race.

Otherwise, about all I would ask for is less focus on the FUCKING SPACE MARINES. Why does almost every Wh40k game have to focus on the space marines?
Yea.
At least it's not the Ultramarines but I would like to see the original campaign follow the orks or if the producers say it HAS to follow one of humanity's factions, it should be one of the more eccentric ones like the Sisters of Battle.

I would like to see a new game mode that's turn based and models itself after the tabletop game. Hell, they should be able to come out with something like that for the mobile market considering how much less processing power is needed.

Try Chaosgate. Older game, still Ultramarines but turn-based with a limited roster and you load out individual marines instead of by squad. Think X-Com's combat mechanics in the 40K universe. Good game.

Though, if we're starting to break away from the RTS mold and more of what we want to see from the 40K IP in video game form, I'd like to state I'd love to see a Dark Heresy survival-horror game, or even a Deathwing game where you hunt and kill Fallen that incorporates combat, investigation, and criminal (disposing of evidence, torturing the Fallen for repentance, eliminating witnesses) play.
