Yes, but A) I still prefer gamepads.
Fair point. To each his own, if you like gamepads more.

and B) motion sensors are now infamous for bringing with them hordes of casual games.
Adolf Hitler liked dogs, was a vegetarian, ate sugar, wore pants, and breathed air. Correlation does not neccesary imply causation - yes, simplified controls are easier to learn, but it could as well be classic NES gamepads instead of wagglefest. Again, i must reitirate, true value of motion controls for me is in pointing at stuff, not flailing around.

Blue-ray catching on just like DVD?

I think not!

Also, I'd like Sony and Microsoft to merge together so the console wars could stop.
it could, never know, if Sony want to be greedy fair enough but one day their will be no DVD's and Blu-Ray will be all over the shelves, one day developers are going to need the drivers to play them.
HD DVD didn't stay for long, now did it?

Blue-Ray players are also shit expensive. Chances are that there will come better alternatives before they catch on.

When it comes to Blue-Ray players in consoles, it's also expensive to build that in. And the Wii has shown that clever innovation also sells.

Saying that DVD's will be gone one day is very plausible, but I doubt that Blue-Ray players will be the only thing fighting for that spot.
Agreed, plus Blu-ray players still play dvds, an advantage videos never had, so they'll doubtless last a lot longer as some people might opt for cheaper dvds rather than blu ray for some films. Plus blu-ray is still hardly a universal format, so many great films have yet to be released in blu ray, Star Wars being an obvious example, and it took star wars years to even reach dvd (2004 I believe)

How about 4-player local games? Enough with this 'make all your friends buy a copy so you can all sit at home and play online' shit. If I have my buddies over I want to be able to play more than just Rock Band and sports games.

Completely downloadable games (with a server full of back-up information and several layers of redundancy in case your console gets stolen or malfunctions)
No more broken discs!
you can switch games without getting off the couch!
This is where the industry is headed anyways. I called it.

I don't want any new consoles at all. Can't the developers just stop?

It has to hover in midair without any visible connection to a wall socket, should never have to be recharged, and should connect wirelessly to other consoles so that I don't have to subscribe to any online services. Also it should be some sort of 3D, and never use discs.

Wow, everyone's thinking so inside the box, the most out-landish desire has been 'a console that plays all current-gen software' - not even one that can handle all past software. Heck, people even just want a box with a disk drive and a traditional controller. Wow... console gaming sounds really fun, guys :p

No, I'm not hating on console, but to give them any point they need to be super-special awesome. Just using a few pieces of currently in development technology I suggest to you a 360 degree portable virtual/augmented reality games system!

Just think: all it needs are the cheap LED projectors that I heard were being developed for a future iPhone model and the IR sensor tech from the Wii mote or the motion detection capabilities of Natal.

Mount these into a single box and the magic beings to happen: motion detection or IR tracking of gloves and perhaps a pair of IR LEDs above the ears allows the machine to understand the precise position and orientation of the gamer and his/her limbs, and any peripherals required (gun, sword, bat whatever). The projectors could be mounted on the machine, with three extra to ensure no shadows, creating a complete environment that would surround the player in a room (dimensions or some sort of calibration system would be required), or alternatively the player could wear the projector around his/her neck, shining forward onto local surfaces for an augmented reality experience.

Replacing the projector with VR glasses would allow unintrusive augmented reality games to be played, highlighting other players, though accelerometers would be required to track a player's movements out and about.

Tie in force-feedback peripherals, including more developed versions of the vest that was around a couple of years back, and you could create a scarily intensive experience that could simulate reality at a VASTLY greater extent than would ever be possible with a box, controller and TV.

Of course, not everyone wants "reality" in their games, but the potential to create so much more sensory stimulation would open up BILLIONS of possible games, experiences, interactive movies - even non-interactive movies could be revolutionalised by access to more than the sight and sound senses. We are at the beginning of the 3D revolution in mass cinema - how long before all our senses are canvas for the work of artists?

An Xbox version that does not have to be sent back for repairs 3+ times. You know, kinda like the PS3 and Wii...
