I would think that this would be the next step. You can buy old games from the PSP and PS3 stores right? Considering that music is increasingly being bought without the CD, would it be the same for games? There would have to be a way of making sure that you wouldn't lose the games if your console died on you.rathorn14 said:Completely downloadable games (with a server full of back-up information and several layers of redundancy in case your console gets stolen or malfunctions)
No more broken discs!
you can switch games without getting off the couch!
This is where the industry is headed anyways. I called it.
I think it shows that we just want our games to work haha.Wicky_42 said:Wow, everyone's thinking so inside the box, the most out-landish desire has been 'a console that plays all current-gen software' - not even one that can handle all past software. Heck, people even just want a box with a disk drive and a traditional controller. Wow... console gaming sounds really fun, guys![]()
Same here.. I'm tired of jumping through hoops every time a developer decides to be innovative.. Calm down and enjoy what we have for a little while..MurderousToaster said:Why the caps on gen?
I don't want a new generation yet. I'd rather they get accustomed to the current, and make fantastic games for it, than rushing forward and forcing devs to work with whole new toolkits and game engines.
This mainly.mattman106 said:Native full HD.
Hopefully the server would keep track of all your information: gamer tag, trophies or achievements, account info and purchases, etc. In the event that something goes wrong with your console, you can contact them and they can restore everything you lost.JDviewer said:I would think that this would be the next step. Sorry, but Blu-ray players aren't exactly expensive anymore... Can pick up a decent model for around 100 pounds now. Since getting a new TV it's all I buy, the quality of sound and video is staggering. Of course if your're watching on a 28inch Standard Def CRT it's pointless, but it's the only way to get the most out of the new high end hi def screens out there.Sparrowsabre7 said:Agreed, plus Blu-ray players still play dvds, an advantage videos never had, so they'll doubtless last a lot longer as some people might opt for cheaper dvds rather than blu ray for some films. Plus blu-ray is still hardly a universal format, so many great films have yet to be released in blu ray, Star Wars being an obvious example, and it took star wars years to even reach dvd (2004 I believe)Hubilub said:HD DVD didn't stay for long, now did it?arc1991 said:it could, never know, if Sony want to be greedy fair enough but one day their will be no DVD's and Blu-Ray will be all over the shelves, one day developers are going to need the drivers to play them.Hubilub said:Blue-ray catching on just like DVD?
I think not!
Also, I'd like Sony and Microsoft to merge together so the console wars could stop.
Blue-Ray players are also shit expensive. Chances are that there will come better alternatives before they catch on.
When it comes to Blue-Ray players in consoles, it's also expensive to build that in. And the Wii has shown that clever innovation also sells.
Saying that DVD's will be gone one day is very plausible, but I doubt that Blue-Ray players will be the only thing fighting for that spot.
