Self-explanatory question really: What is it you wish Eidos puts in/ takes out for Thief 4 (working title Thi4f)?

My wants:
-First person (duh)
-Keep Garret as the main character, same voice actor. Apparently theres a worry he'll be replaced by the girl and the end of The Deadly Shadows ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW-CEfKNd0c , girl around the 3:00 mark)
-More plain ol' robbery missions. Not a war between magic and technology, but just Garret robbing the shit out of houses, banks, mansions, chapels, whatever.
-Rope arrows, not climbing gloves.

I'll have some more later, but that's all I can think of for now.

Here's some relevant links:
Thief Wiki's page: http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/THI4F
Official Forums: http://forums.eidosgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=269
TvTropes page...for some reason. Its fun. : http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Thief

So what do you think?

Oh, man. There's a VERY long discussion about this on TTLG Forums.
I'm a fan of the series, so I pretty much want more of the same thing. However, I wouldn't mind if they didn't use Garrett anymore. I think the last game ended it nicely for him.

Yeah, I see your point about Garrett. Just seems to me that whenever a series tries to throw in a new protagonist, they usually end up being terrible. My opinion isn't due so much for a want for Garrett, as it is for a want of a strong Lead Character.

I want a game that's at least up to par with Thief 3. Given that, I'll be a happy camper.
Thief 3 was the first one I played. Then I went back and played 2 at people's urging. Let me tell you: #2 was much, much better. I don't agree with Yahtzee on much, but he got this one 100%, indisputably right.

As a hardcore fan of the Thief series who counts Thief: The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age among the best games ever made, it might come as a bit of a shock when I say... I don't mind if they switch out Garrett. I think he's an amazing protagonist and he suits the series perfectly what with his general assholishness and snarky cynicism, and I certainly wouldn't mind him coming back. I'd celebrate in fact, hold a small party by myself eating stole cupcakes, just as he'd want a party in his name to be celebrated. But if they do choose to switch him out, well, it makes sense. His story is done, he won, game over. If they want to have him appear as the 'master thief' who trained your character, that's fine, what matters is that the new character is just as well done as Garrett was.

That means A: No pandering lewd outfits. She'd be a thief, she'd wear black, all of her, that means genuine pants and shirt and probably a cloak too. If I see a single side-boob that'll mean the series of officially dead once and for all since it'll mark the moment these new developers decided to forget story, gameplay, and even basic common sense in order that they pander to the drooling teenage idiot market. Bah!

B: Give her a personality. Let's see; She grew up on the streets, was a pickpocket at a young age, and was then taken in my a cynical loner asshole for training as his successor. Now lets take that past and create a realistic yet still likable protagonist. I'd suggest giving Feargus Urquhart an email and asking for tips, since he created the fantastic Annah-of-the-shadows who's pretty much all of the above as well as a solid character.

As for gameplay, they'd have to be drooling morons to screw that up. Just copy the first three games, it's that simple and no one will be angry about it. It's what we fans want; More Thief! So just copy & paste, it's really that simple, don't be fancy or try to liven things up. The people who play this sort of game are not the type who *want* it to be livened up. Hell, even Yahtzee loves the series just the way it is, and he hates *everything*.

Honestly though I think it'll be a complete bust. Thief 4 will be crap and no one will like it. The developers will try to 'modernize' the series and in so doing create a wholly generic and forgettable game that's akin to the original games in name only. After all these are the same developers who intend to turn Deus Ex 3 into a more fast-paced shooter because, in their own words:

"There weren?t enough exciting, memorable moments. It was aimed more towards a simulation rather than a game experience."

*Sigh*

You ever just have an unexplainable faith in someone to do something right? That's what I have for Eidos right now. Its weird.

Anyway, I can't decide if I want the open-world city back (more polished of course, as one continuous zone) or not. they fucked it up in 3, but with technology being what it is now?

Not really. I find if I take a cynical approach to everything I'm never disappointed when it turns out I was right and I get to be pleasantly surprised when I'm wrong.

And as for open world or not... I'm not sure. On one hand Thief 2 had some amazing level design. But an open world setting, if done properly, would also be amazing. Perhaps with specific building or area locked off for more heavily scripted 'mission' segments like they did with Thief 3? Could work, don't see why it wouldn't be possible with todays technology. Couldn't do any worse than Thief 3 anyway, which had some good ideas but which was held back considerably by the constraints of the original Xbox leading to those itty-bitty tiny levels we all dislike.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Ive made my mind: I want a open-world. I trust Eidos to do it right. After playing T3 again today, I just can't imagine going back to pure finish-a-level-on-to-the-next-one gameplay. Ick.

To be honest, for it to not be called Thi4f.
This was pretty much my first thought.
This too.

Played thief 2 and three, never got around finishing them, even though i liked them.
I just want it to be a little less complicated and more focused on the sneaking part of the game.

What game did they play? I'm playing Deus Ex right now and it has more memorable moments than most of the game released in the last few years combined.

For Theif 4 I want:
Strong Characters, I don't mind if Garret gets replaced as long as he isn't replaced by an empty shell.
Lagre non-Linear levels.
Same stealth mechanics as in 3.
The hub world was nice.
Levels that are visually distinct and play differently.

The story was pretty complicated and the objectives were not always clear.

I'm Kinda hoping that you get to play as an apprentice of Garrett of sorts, remember how the kid in the end tries to pick pocket him and thats how he met up with the other keepers and what have you. You might have a jk2 - jk3 thing going on where Garrett teaches you tricks of the trade. But thats me sitting here wishfully thinking.

Also a bit more expansion on the "City" and the world they are in would be nice. I'm not asking for them to make another Elder scrolls Oblivion but I am curious to see what this world is like.

3 games in and we don't know much about it (visually or Lore wise)

For them to not dumb it down for console gamers, and for them to not make it worse for PC gamers.
