So according to Eurogamer Creative Assembly are going to make a new Total War;

Now I love Total war but I think they should be done with Medieval Europe and Japan and would like something new out of CA. Personally I want either early China during the unification, the American Revolution and Civil War or to be more modern and set it during either WWI or WWII, mmm tanks acting as cavalry.

What do you think, what time period and location would you like to see from Total War?

I disagree with setting the series in 20th century. It would require a total overhaul of gameplay mechanics - would it still be a Total War game?

I would like to see the ancient Middle East. The problem is that we don't know that much about the period, but it's not used very often and a number of empires rose and fell before the Persian domination. Plus, chariots.

True but I'd like to see them try to see if they could do something interesting with it, I didn't really like Empire too much but it was at least different.

Also to hijack my own thread I would like CA get a licence for Total War I'm thinking either Lord of the Rings because I like the mods or even better a Game of Thrones Total War game.

I think a Age of Mythology type inspired spin of type game could be fun, run around with Giants instead of elephants, Magicans instead of archers etc,

World War 1.
I know it will have its obvious problems, but it was such a huge event that spanned so many countries and creeds. So many political injunctions, and so many technological advances were pushed forward by the conflict much like the technologies that came into play in previous total war games. Like guns in MTWII.

I just think it would be a terrific set piece. Especially if they sepia-toned it a little bit.

Han Dynasty, though that might step on the toes of a certain Japanese developer that has been making games set in that period for almost 20 years.

I'd like to see a return to medieval warfare, but failing that im actually okay with anything.
While i like the time period, i dont think the american cival war would work though, personally there wouldnt be enough variety in units, or setting, there would be almost no naval combat (admitedly i wouldnt mind that) and there would probably only be 2 playable factions.

Total War: 40k. With quantum computing arriving it's possible!
Sure space marines would be OP as hell in that a 100 of them could take on thousands of most enemies, but the kensai in original shogun were kinda like that anyways :)

Otherwise... Total war: Caveman would lack esthetic appeal but could cover a massive period of history all the way to the classical era.

Might be interesting to see a Mongol/Chinese Total War.

In an ideal world I'd love a game they could just call "Total War". Start in, say, ancient Greece, and continue on to the 18th century, developing new technology and conquering the ENTIRE WORLD.

What about an extreme fantasy world with like tigers riding on sharks or something. Or in the distant future... that's in space.

I think the idea of a 21st century Total War would be amazing, the weapons and armour, as well as the endless strategy that can be used, as well as the thought of air units

I'd love to see a combo of Europa Universalis and Total War.

If not, Medieval Total War 3 would be my choice - the series hasn't really shone in any of the other settings as far as I'm concerned, but that's just my 2 florins.

This!

I would like to see Rome 2: Total War done in cooperation with the people who made the Europa Barbarorum mod though, the vanilla Rome was about as reflective of the time as Inspector Gadget would be for policework in the 1920ies.

Dude I would pay an embarrasing amount of money for Dynasty Wariors: Total War, they could have hero chararacters that act like Kensai from the first Shogun.
