Total War: IN SPAAACE!!
They've already made that, its just called Sins of a Solar Empire. :p
except Sins of a Solar Empire is rubbish

Space would be cool though, you have to build ships to take your army to other planets and take them over, and sometimes on the way you get into spaceship fights, much like the Ship battles on Shogun 2
Actually I think this is more like Star Wars: Empire at War. You know, space battles which allow you to go on and do a ground invasion (which you get to fight both).

OT: Revolution: Total War

2 different campaigns I guess, French and American Revolutions. Since they've got the gun technology you might as well use it now.

I know that this might be annoying for some since you don't have the large amount of things to pick from, which is why I propose you are in control of a colony in the US or a region in France, and you pick your side and allegiences change but ultimatly you're fighting for a grand victory over your opponants, kind of like a flexible version of Allies, Axis and Comintern from Hearts of Iron 3.

I'd like to see a true WARHAMMER 40k: TOTAL WAR

The setting is perfect for a TW game, since nobody in the setting employs reasonable battle tactics, and basically never use aircraft. You'd still have the troops line up for a staring match before rushing into melee to beat each other to death with swords and clubs, despite possessing space-age weaponry.

But, ah, who am I kidding.

Rome 2 would be cool too, though I wish they'd keep the old RPG elements from the Rome 1/Medieval 1 games, which they for some reason removed from Shogun 2 to make every single character identical and forgettable.

I'd really like to see something similar to what the Rise of Nations series did in the last game: just create their own fantasy/sci-fi setting and do whatever the hell they please with it. I would play the hell out of Steampunk: Total War or Mayincatec-Aliens-With-Lazors: Total War. But, since it's not likely to happen, playing a Total war game set in ancient China would be just as awesome. Also Rome 2.

I think they could make a WW1/WW2 kind of game in the vain of Company of Heroes given how different warfare is compared to the rest of history. Though I think It wouldn't be what people expect from a TW title

Rome 2 Total War with a calendar going from 400BC to 1000AD and a map stretching from the West coast of North Africa to the East coast of China, that gives the opportunity to cover Alexander, Rise and fall of Rome, the Viking raids, Three Kingdoms China all progressing into the early medieval period. That's me fantasizing though.

Rome 2 Total War or China Total War

A Bronze age game would be good, although not sure what you'd call it - Mycenae: TW?
Aside from that, I'd love a Rome II - was always strangely fun fending off Rome as Greece.
Maybe Pharaohnic Total War? Minoan Total War? Hittite Total War? Either way, just go ancient, deal with Bronze Age cultures and the huge empires of Egypt and Mycenae... and maybe include the Trojan War? I'd play that!
