Sometime in the future there will be a Civilization 5 and I wanted to get the communities input of what they want in a new civilization game and what they do not want to see.

For me I want to see several things including

-Many of the animated flourishes that were in Civilization Revolution (I enjoyed watching my armies actually fight)

-The ability to name geographic interests in the game (another future form Revolution I enjoyed)

-Some of the cool future units that were in the "Future War" mod in Beyond the Sword

-The ability to colonize the solar system before colonizing Alpha Centauri

-More Leonard Nimoy voice-overs for unlocked technology

-More civilizations (such as the Austro-Hungarian empire, Mesopotamia, and The Moorish Empire) to name a few

- Do more with religion. It felt kind of unfinished in Civ IV. Have more religions to choose from.

- Make up some hypothetical future technologies. Endlessly researching "future tech" gets boring.

- Let me play as the goddamn Sumerians! They're an incredibly significant culture and yet Civ keeps passing them by. In fact, all of the Mesopotamian civilizations outside of Babylon have historically been screwed by Sid Meier.

- More options for a non-military civilization. Cultural and diplomatic victories are fun, but I want more!

- Just bite the bullet and make Adolf Hitler one of the selectable German leaders.

They did in Civ III Complete. I never played as them, though.

- More Wonders.

The Sumerians are in Civ IV. I think they were added in one of the expansions, forget which.

In general these ideas are pretty tame I must say, you could put most of this stuff in an expansion pack. I don't have any better ideas myself but I trust Sid Meier to do better than just add more civs and better animations.

What about being able to zoom into your cities as one of the citizens,or walk around as the king/dictator of your land.

Train your avatar in the world to fight.

have the armies be able to merge endlessly and make one massive ultra army.

Be able to talk to your citizens

have any army with my king character in it get a boost in attack and defense

I usually won the world by conquest or culture.More conquest then culture.

Controllable space colonization would be incredibly significant.

If Civ's going to stay modern, I think adding terrorist factions would be interesting. For example, one might pop up in a city you've captured from another civilization and destroy civic improvements or wonders and kill citizens. Or one might appear within another civilization's borders and launch attacks on you, leaving you with the option to either demand that the other civilization deal with it - which they may or not agree to, and which they may or may not even be able to do depending on their military power and the leader's popularity - or invade that civilization and eradicate the problem yourself. You could also contact and negotiate with terrorist leaders, but that might affect your standing with your citizens and other civilizations. Terrorist factions could be nothing more than an annoyance (similar to barbarians early in the game) or they could be incredibly destructive if, for example, the detonate a nuke in one of your cities.

God?
EDIT: Ok I got scarred of admin wrath.

By saying "God" I was saying it literally, more religions and bigger impact on the civs. After all one of the most bloody wars in history (including recent ones) were over religion.

I want them to keep everything that was in Civ IV and all of its expansions.

I want your colonies to be able to declare their own independence (can they already do this? I don't know. I always kept them well supplied and happy as long as they kept giving me oil)

Like someone earlier said, terrorist factions, which could range from an event (like when a Theater burns down or there's a drought in your farmlands) to something huge, like a promise to blow a nuke in your cities unless you pay them a huge amount of gold, in which case paying the gold would get you kicked out of the UN, unless you're the Secretary General.

Orbital laser support would be nice. Nukes are worthless after someone invents the SDI project.

And it would be nice if they added more religions.

While it would be really interesting to see if they would put more actions in the religion catagory, I don't think that they will do that. They have a giant disclaimer in the manuel saying how they are trying to make it so the religion in the game does not offend people, so it does as little in the game as possiable. they also said that seven was the optiomal number of religions for the game (however I think they could probably squeeze in a few more religions, especially if they make it so you can research older religions like Zoroastrianism that could get phased later in the game i you found a newer religion like Islam (which replaced Zoroastrianism in the Middle East))

I think that it would be really cool if they could delve into the various subsects of the different religions they have in the game. For example if you found christianity, then you start out with the Catholic church, but over time if you mismanage the church, dissatifaction will begin to spread over the land and the church might split into different sects (like the schisim in 1054 between the Catholic and Orthodox christen sects or the 17th centurys Protesent revolutions) and you could either try and put them down, rejoin peacefully or even convert to that sect.

Another thing that would be pretty cool if hidden throughout the world are hidden artifacts pretaining to your religion and finding them can yeild massive benifits to your country.

I also want to see population precentage in your citys that tell you what percentage of your city if following what religion, this could add more to the culture border conflicts if some people in a rival city follow your religion, but their faction follows a different religion.

I like the ideas of the OP, I would love to see Civ5 go as far as Civ:CTP. My first Civ game and the only Civ game that allowed me to build orbiting space cities, submarine cities, and creat alien life! Pretty please have the game span 7,000 years!

I just want new mechanics and improved existing ones.

Especially improve the Spy mechanics. They were really mediocre in Civ 4 and not really worth using.

Other than that, keep the awesome music in, those interesting flourishes, and as someone else mentioned, letting us create our own religion or civilization would be pretty fun.

If all else fails, add Canada in there just for the heck of it.

Lol, lets all play as John A. Macdonald, the first Canadian prime minister.

This thread has made me want to play Civ 4 again. Damn, I haven't played that game in awhile.

Anyway, I want to see more factors that effect your population's happiness, and can start revolutions.

Oh wait, I'm trying to turn it into Empire: Total War. Still, though, it would be nice.

Agreed. Admittedly, he was an evil fuck, but he was an absolutely genius leader. They have Ghengis Khan and Alexander the Great up there, and they were both horrific men.

And Stalin, who was arguably worse than Hitler.

I want a better the whole spy and stealth parts.

And more future techs would be nice
