What do you want to see in Mass Effect 3?

I think that it is safe to say that I am currently more obsessed with the Mass Effect franchise than I have ever been with anything ever. As such, I have spent a lot of time pondering what I think should be in the next game. My criteria are pretty stringent, but I think you'll agree that they are awesome.

Gameplay: I want the "best of both worlds". That is, I want to have the weapons-and-armor customization options from the first game, combined with the cover system, improved power usage, and gunplay fro the second. I'd also like to see an amount of exploration potential on par with the first game.

Narrative: This is where I get demanding. I want the plot of the third game to play out in drastically different ways, dependng upon critical decisions you made in the previous two. I want this "branching storyline" thing to be so thorough that you won't even be able to imagine how the ending could have panned out differently had you made different decisions in the other games; unless, of course, you play through them again.
A big part of this is the romance options. I want full support for each and every love interest from both games. That is, I want to continue whatever romantic relationship I want to from either the first or second game. I romanced Liara in the first game, but Tali in the second; I want the option to choose between them (read: I pick the latter).
Last, I think it would be cool if we got to see a female turian in number three. Just a thought.

I apologize for the wall o' text, but I had to get that off my chest. Please, feel free to voice (or, rather, type) your opinions on what you think Bioware should do with Mass Effect 3.

Also, pray to whatever deity you believe in that someone who could affect the production of the game is reading this thread.

Happy discussion!

Honestly, Mass Effect 2 was so god awfully bad that I really don't care at this point. What they need to do is, like Yahtzee said, make Shepherd mine his resources by shooting monsters. How hard would it be to work in something akin to the Akrid from the Lost Planet series? The narrative is fine, but the gunplay is just weak. My recommendation, more explosions. This combined with a more intriguing resource gathering could make the game a thousand times better than Mass Effect 2

A man-on-man romance option would be excellent. But I fear that will not happen.

Oh well. The game is likely to be excellent regardless.

The only thing I really demand is a conclusion. I love the franchise, but this particular narrative has to end with Mass Effect 3, I think. Don't draw it out, Bioware.

A release date?

As long as they keep the story driven RPG aspect and don't fumble the story I'll be happy as can be.

Oh and this:

Well since this is the end of the series, I hope they go out with a bang. I thought the story in ME2 was weak and pointless. I'd also like to see some planet exploration, along with weapon and armor customization we had in the first one.

I part of me is hoping that there isn't anymore romance options. It's difficult enough trying to stay loyal to Kaiden.

I would also like to see some female aliens, {Krogen, Turian, Etc.}

But gameplay wise...I can't really think of anything. I have enough faith in Bioware that the game will be epic. I do agree with you about the branching storyline, I would love to see a vast difference between people who simply played ME2 and those who finished both.

I didn't really enjoy Mass Effect 2 all that much...
I HATED like scanning for fucking resources. I'd like more female NPC's of the species. That'd be nifty. I don't how to articulate what it was missing; it just seemed to lack the spark that Mass Effect 1 had. Mass Effect 2 just seemed like the bridge between 1 and 3, and I hope there's something damn good on the other side.

Ahhh, great question. Too bad I don't have a lot of time right now.

I agree with you on the gameplay, though if they're going to have a more ME1-style inventory system I think they need to drastically improve inventory management. There were too many guns and armors that were too similar and it was hard to purchase for your squadmates when you were running around solo as Shepard on the Normandy. And they need to make it easier to tell which equipment is better, especially for people not currently in your squad. Then again, I would be ok w/ the ME2 way too if they don't have time.

The leveling system should be kind of a mix between 1 and 2. 1's was good because there were lots of points to spend and lots of skills per class, but each single upgrade to a talent didn't seem to have much impact. 2's was good because each upgrade seemed important, and evolving the skills was neat.

I wouldn't mind a Mako-type planet exploring mechanic, but instead use something somewhat like the hammerhead.

I agree with the huge branching storyline. There were so many threads that they kind of touched on in ME2 with those emails to Shepard, but I want to see those decisions have more impact in ME3.. like the Rachni.

It may be way too ambitious, but I'd like to see them try. Man, that would be epic.

By the way, if Bioware's going to attempt something like this, that means all the whiners who WANT IT NOW!!11!!!11 will need to shut up because it takes time to make a quality game.

I'll wait.

Ah, crap, forgot to mention that one. Yes. At the risk of sounding really creepy, I care more for Tali'Zorah vas Normandy nar Rayya than I have about any character in anything. If I can't finally see her face, it will be an understatement to say that I will be sorely disappointed.

to make reference to an old game, the mining system on Ratchet & Clank: Locked and Loaded had a good idea for mining: you get in a vehicle, in ME3 this would be the Mako, and you land on planets with a mineral scanner. when you get close to the minerals located underground, the vehicle has to mine, like in the Firewalker DLC. It worked ok on R&C, and i'm sure Bioware could find some way to improve it.

( o Y o ) - quit teasing us bioware, you know you wanna do it.

Seriously.. I liked planet scanning too for some odd reason. Something rather peaceful about it.

Actual naughty parts? I like all the outage surrounding video game nudity. Tali's face and/or naughty parts would be good too.

Give me back loot!
Come on Sheppard, that fucking merc dropped that gun I needed right the- FUCK, PICK IT UP!
He has a wallet, at least!
You fucking moron...

Seriously, combat of the second game with the loot of the first and some open levels that don't feel like straight lines, that's all I really need.

Get the feeling Bioware might do a bit more than that, though.
