My parents have never really understood my obsession with games, and probably never will. My sister enjoys playing the occasional game, but thinks that I should have grown out of games by now. My brothers are considerably more understanding. They both regularly play Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and World of Warcraft, so this isn't surprising.

My cousins are of a younger genaration, and don't have any problem with my gaming habits.

My folks didn't want me to play them as a kid, wouldn't let me buy them at all actually. So I bought a friends N64 and had him "give" it to me as a birthday gift. My parents weren't happy but wouldn't rudely refuse a gift.

Now I'm going to college to make video games, guess some things really are predetermined.

Everyone in my family thinks that it's some evil thing that eats souls and makes kids go on shooting rampages. When ever I pull out the Nintendo 64 and play a Mario or Zelda game, my dad makes fun of me for playing "Kiddy games" after criticizing me for shooting a convict in the head in Grand Theft Auto 4 (it was that mission where you had to capture that guy before he went to jail and kill him).

I used to take crap about it from my mom but she's one of those good parents that actually talks to her kids about what they are interested and slowly she started to understand. She almost bought a Wii but she decided to get a new fiddle instead. I'd like to get her to play but she has tried (and found it reasonably enjoyable) but she doesn't have the timing and reaction/hand eye coordination.

The only "loved one" I have is my mother, who simply thinks I need to get out a little bit more, but that's about it. And I'm getting better at it.

My dad is pretty cool about it. He doesn't normally play them, but he's rather interested in a lot of them. My mom keeps telling me its a waste of money, but she smokes about a pack a day, so I don't listen to her too much.

My parents never understood it. They couldn't understand why i didn't want to be outside.

My girlfriend grew up play games on the PC, but hops on a console from time to time. I got her a wii as a gift a couple of months ago. She buys me stuff for my 360. We have a good relationship.

They don't mind and aren't interested.

That sums it up perfectly.

They just interpret it as part of me. Quite a few of them play games as well, though nowhere near as much as me what with there lives and everything in the way. But yeah It's just something I do to them like breathing, and usually more often than sleeping and eating.

i actually had a conversation about gaming with my mum yesterday, whilst i was playing persona 4
"so what game are you playing now? Shooting more people"
"Persona 4, and no, there is no shooting involved"
"oh, so what do you do"
"kill stuff with swords"

My parents dont really mind. they show mild interest at times, and i occasionally play multiplayer with my dad. and he used to watch me play GTA a few years back, when SA came out.
Although my mum does complain that i spend money on games.

Only time I've had a comment was when I was thinking of getting Viva Pinata. My dad, ex-military, manly-man type; "But it says 5+!" as if by not including murderous rampages and profanity it was offending him. Not wanting my dad to question my sexuality (again), I made out as if I was pointing at some random games with guns and tits on the front.
