My parents are pretty cool with it.

My dad always talks about how amazing the technology behind consoles and game software is, and even bought me my 360 and some games. (He bought me Oblivion out of the blue one day, and I'm sure glad he did!) I even got my dad to play Portal for a while. Occasionally he'll mutter something about the "uber violent" games, but neither of us takes it very seriously.

My mom likes to hear about the games. I think she likes the multiplayer games that I play because I get to hang out with my friends from a distance. She also likes some of the machinimas out there, and used to watch as I played Bioshock or Portal.

So, yeah. They're supportive. Not so much back when I had an MMO addiction, but by not overreacting (like some of my friends' parents have to their kids' gaming) they let me haul my way out of it on my own.

My dad started me on it with the NES and Windows 3 PC, and he'll still play some today. I've tried to get him playing Bioshock because he loves Vonnegut and Orwell and I think he'd really appreciate the storyline.

As for my gaming, they don't really care about it at all. My brother is a different matter. They just found out he uses the swears on XBL and he got in some pretty big trouble. They're weird about that kind of thing. Also, they don't really like that he plays all the time, no matter how much he tries to explain that it's nothing more than a hobby.

They both think games are for stupid people and that it's a waste of time. Apparently, watching porn is a better use of time for my dad. And whining at me is a better use of time for my mom. All my cousins also think wasting away their lives on facebook is much more productive. However, despite all my family's negativity towards gaming, they allow me to do it because I have excellent grades, I'm respectful etc... As long as I'm a good kid, I can do what I want, and my mom seems to be satisfied that I play a lot of video games rather than doing drugs or other illegal activities.

And as the above people have said, they hate it when I'm on the computer! When most of the time I'm completing my assignments or doing programming, something academic! Most of my family is technologically retarded and thinks Computer Science is the ability to tell the difference between a Monitor and a Computer.

My dad is an advid gamer so I grew up with games around me. I think I started playing when I was like 2 or 3. We had an NES, a CelecoVision and a Commodore 64. I guess you can say I was pretty spoiled as a kid when it came to video games because my dad always kept up with the latest systems and when the new one came out he would give me the console to take home. I have had all the standard concoles like SNES, PS, N64, Gamecube, Genesis, Mega Drive, Game Boy and Game Gear, and Saturn. On the other had my step-dad dislikes video games, and when I was younger he used to try to break my video game cartridges if he thought I was lying or if I did something bad. My step-mother didn't like video games for awhile but she loves Oblivion. I remember when Resident Evil first came out for Playstation she wouldn't allow me to be in the room with my dad while he was playing it, so I used to wait until they went to bed and then I would stay up all night and play. And my real mother, who occasionally plays casual games, is the one who beat Link To The Past for me when I was little kid. Me and my dad had trouble beating Gannon, and in the middle of the night she decided to play the game, and then she woke me up to tell me that she had finished the game. Those were the good old days when you had to buy the guide for a game, call the hot line, or wait for Nintendo Power to do a guide.

The old man doesn't get it.(too advanced, plus I don't really care about him.) My mother on the other hand thinks it's making me into a complete psycho nut case that's out to kill her. So now I'm on Burprothan!

They really don't care about my gaming preferences. My stepfather even plays a few games (namely WoW and CoD4) himself.
