As you hopefully already know, Christmas is drawing near (Yay!!!).
In fact, here in Australia we only have to wait one more day for probably the biggest celebration of the year.

So, what does Christmas mean to you?

For me, it's a time for the whole family to gather and have a good time; it's never anything formal, just a day to meet everyone and strengthen bonds. Oh, and there's always a mean lunch cooked up for the family. Oh, and presents are pretty good, too.

If you want, you can also share some of your Christmas traditions.

It is a day to see family and give them gifts, also to eat my Grandmothers delicious food till I explode, like so.

Christmas means to be is this;

Ultimate Boredom.

Most of my friends are offline for the whole day.
I get constant stream of sms or messages about the good Christmas.
I'm sorry, but I just feel like the Grinch or something..

Extra work. And I get to sleep in and be bored all day since a lot of stores close.

I haven't thought of Christmas as something I celebrate in the past few years. I usually get together with my family and some grandparents and have dinner and stuff for an evening. And that was all it meant to me. Before that I was so young that presents were all that mattered.

But as I've thought about it the past few days, what exactly it is that I celebrate, I quickly realized it was nature that I should celebrate. From this year, Christmas is about nature to me. The wonderful and beautiful complex that keeps us all alive.

Annoying, why? Because of the annoying Christmas music playing EVERYWHERE that makes me want to cut my ears off and the overdone Christmas decorations/lights that so many put up to remind me of this annoying holiday that has always been just another day for me since I never have and never will celebrate it. I keep my holiday to myself so I just wish people would get out of my face and shut up about Christmas already(not referring to you OP or anyone here but real life). If it's a wonderful time for you than congrats but Christmas is more of a nuisance to me. And it's a false sense of being good and generous by giving to the poor and helping your neighbors or whatever because of the "Christmas spirit"; that's good and all but what the hell stops you from helping people and giving to the poor for the rest of the year?

A day other people celebrate. Personally, I'm Jewish, so it's not what you'd call a big deal.

That said, I appreciate it as an excuse to get stuff for people who would otherwise not accept gifts.

Being together with friends and family. But of course my friends are too busy to hang out, and not all of my family members will be home during christmas.

It means being harassed about my lack of religious affiliation, but other than that, not much. I get to send cards.

For the new games usually that I get. Hopefully gonna get Golden Sun: Dark Dawn this year *fingers crossed*

But rather than religious stuff, I'm more for the family side too. And all in all to just have fun. On games.

It means a day of barely surpressed animosity that culminates in a drunken fight.
And then everyone who is not me sobs because CHRISTMAS IS RUINED OH NO.

Such a wonderful time of year. All of this fucking togetherness, brings a goddamn tear to my eye.

Traffic jams, tons of that annoying music, going to church services and hearing the same story I've heard every year, buying people presents, wrapping people presents...

I don't enjoy it that much, but I love time off school and presents.

If it's for religious belief, it means dedication to one's faith. For the rest, it means capitalist greed, the people being bought in by shiny advertising and big slogans, it means gluttony, where you're allowed to act like a selfish pig all day and no one cares. Forced family time means fucking boredom because I don't get along with or have anything in common with any of my family besides genetics. All of my friends are offline, unable to text due to family or actually somehow enjoying the sordid affair that it is.

The worst part is that people seem to think this is a shame for me, or that it's some kind of mental disease that can be cured by forcing me to endure their horrific christmas rituals from the start of fucking November, assuming that I'll somehow suddenly go "wow you're right, this is fun isn't it. I just love Christmas now". It is not a problem for me that I dislike Christmas. That and the Facebook wall spam at midnight tomorrow will probably drive me completely barking mad.

Here's a picture of me and my friend on Christmas eve:

I'm the one in the hat.

It means more hours at work, and seeing some relatives that I don't often see.

I would happily do without it, but I'm not overflowing with bile over it either.

The birth of Jesus, which is celebrated by the giving of gifts in mutual respects of the Joy of Giving.
Also, candy.

Christmas, to me, is a time to get together with family and friends, sharing in food and celebrating still being here, while remembering those who are no longer with us, wherever they may be now.

Something between bugger and all.

Eh, sorry, don't mean to be a downer. I just never got the whole Christmas deal.

But hey, on the upside, it's a day on which I do not have to work. That's always nice.
