I like Yorkshire. My girlfriend goes to uni in Leeds so I'm there a fair bit, and it always seems a pretty nice city (despite the fact she lives in a pretty shitty part of it). I also really like Sheffield, and as far as I'm aware the countryside is pretty nice too.

I'm from Lincoln though, so not really too far from Yorkshire compared to most people on here.

Well Yorkshire, lets see. There was the infamous Yorkshire civil wars in the 70s. Each riding went its own way under powerful warlords, the most most brutal being Thora Hird warlord of the north riding and Dikie Brid of the west riding. The horrible war started over the proper form of worship of St Geoffrey De Boycott and ended with a committee meeting of Yorkshire CCC and the exile of the arch heretic Ray of Illingworth to Nottingham. I believe Lord Brain of the close was nominated for a nobel peace prize for his part in the peace treaty. All is not well, rumor has it that the son of the arch heretic Richard of Illingworth has been sighted on the sacred turf of Headingley. Storm clouds gather and the west riding has a new warlord, the strangely named Sean of Bean.

It's the poor mans Lancashire. I mean sure its bigger, contains nicer geography, has vikings, and most of the bits of Lancashire we could brag about are now independent counties in their own right (I'm looking at you Manchester, you betrayer!).

But Lancashire is just better, because shut up that's why.

Ee, it's grim oop North.

(I've only ever been through Yorkshire on a train going to Scotland, but what I saw of it looked nice enough.)

It's a fair place. Avoid Bradford, visit York. Haworth is also worth visiting, as it has a decent steam railway and the home of the Bronte family. Although the North Yorkshire Moors are better altogether...

Well, there's a delicious fatty bread thingy named after it. Not sure why the other part of the name is "pudding," but it's delicious, so I'm not complaining.

Also, it's in England, and the town of York is a really historically significant place. I think it even shows up in the King Arthur legends, from time to time.

As for modern Yorkshire? I've got nothing.

I live there, that's good enough reason as any to visit.

Some of the most awesome celebrities come from here (Patrick Stewart, Maclom Mcdowell, Ben Kingsley, Brian Blessed amongst others *rolls The Yorkshire Ripper up in a rug and puts him under the table*) and if you like walking around the middle of nowhere, you're in luck.

Terrify your children at the York Dungeons! Go to Lightwater Valley! It's a bit pants, but okay for kids I suppose. Go visit the set of Emmerdale! Laugh at our funny accents! Look bewildered as we ask if you're up to owt or nowt.

Stay away from some towns though... Everywhere has some dark spots.

Science has shown it's the greatest place in the history of the universe. Known for being really friendly, where people can just strike up a conversation with strangers (take note London). If there was one improvement that could be made, it would be to move Lancashire away so we didn't have to touch it. Ewwwwww.

Is this because Dr Who recently referred to Yorkshire as the north? (If it was five foot further south it would be smack in the sodding middle)

Aside from that, night place! Amazing views in t' Dales.

If Yorshire had been a country in the 2012 Olympics it would have won more medals than Brazil.

But they still lost the War of the Roses.

It's in Britain. Probably in England judging by the name.

It's mostly rural... I think.

The locals probably have some distinctive accent that is easily identifiable by other people in the UK, but would just sound like a regular English accent to me.

That's it. That's all I know.

I know where it is on the map, from the accent thread when I had to check the place out since their "special" words where almost identical to Scandinavian, though pronounced funnier. Turned out I was right. Danish and Norweigan vikings totally owned that place back when.
I didn't know it was up near Scotland though(I knew that place had seen plenty of viking visits and that Scottish borrows a lot from Scandinavian).

Nothing actually. Other than the fact that it is big and has an awesome name. Though William the Conqueror invaded it, and he may have been a distant ancestor of mine.
