They have to have a good story, or incredibly fun game play. Dark Void was the only game that I enjoyed that had a story I didn't give a damn about. The fun gameplay was enough to make up for it though. I wouldn't buy it, but it was fun to rent.

Back on topic- I also like there to be a bit of humor in the game. The characters need to be likable.

A good game needs to be fun and have an epic story that isn't too over the top. Also it should be at least 15 to 20 hours long.

For a game to be good it must be fun. As long as it's fun, that's all that matters. That's why video games are called a form of entertainment, they are played because it's fun.

If the plot doesn't make even a little bit of sense (Unintentionally) there is no way I can like it. Same goes for movies.

Nothing. I think saying a good game NEEDS a single factor suppresses creativity. Many brilliant games have been made because they defy the standard video game paradigms.

i.e Gmod, Portal, Supreme Commander, Oblivion (I can't speak for morrow wind, I've never played it) and Assassins creed 2.

Either a very in depth combat system that lets you play multiple ways (guns blazing, stealth, etc.) or a deep choice system where you're choices legitimately affect gameplay.

Seriously, though. I coherent plot helps, a good musical score is great. A good graphical style helps a ton as well.

One where assholes can't invade your world n a moments notice and stab you in the back effectively killing you because you didn't notice him since he was invisible and you were already fighting black phantom Satsuki and a black phantom black skeleton AT THE SAME TIME!.......dammit Demon's Souls....

OT:An good plot, good gameplay, good graphics(not as important), if there is a love interest, take a page from "The Darkness" and make it believable and worth it. No obvious plot holes, no one shot characters to solve a pointless problem, and most importantly, a good single player campaign.
