not sure what else to call it, it looks like NBC is trying to bring back Heroes for at least a short miniseries. I am hopeful, I liked the original series well enough, although it kinda fell off in quality as it went.

This was announced ages ago, so you're a bit late to the party. Personally, I'm looking forward to it, as it's basically been stated as a sort-of reboot except everything from established canon will be kept. Also, Noah Bennett should be coming back, last I heard (no idea of anyone else though), so it will still follow on from the reveal at the end of the original series (where Clare revealed to the world that super-powered people exist). Should be pretty good then, though to be fair I am one of those who still enjoyed even the 'sub-par' seasons from the original run...

God that show went to hell after the first season.

The writers clearly had no idea where the show was supposed to go and just kept pulling stuff out of their butts and making the show less and less interesting. Hell, even the first season finale was weak as hell, and the first season was the only one that was seemingly fully planned out. Apparently it had 4 seasons (with 5 different story arcs), I don't know, I only actually remember 3 of them despite having watched every episode.

So yeah, I'm not excited. Even if they manage to get to the quality of the first season of the original show I won't really be satisfied because it's one of those "too little, too late" things. Maybe the writers thought of some interesting scenarios in the 5 years that the show has been off the air, I kind of doubt it, not with the crap that the later seasons were.

And to everyone asking "well why did you watch the whole series if you hate it so much?" I started watching it in high school when I was still dumb and my tastes were still developing, and continued to watch it because by the time I'd realized how terrible it was I had already invested too much time in it to just drop it (plus it's not like I had a lot to do on tuesday nights).

I'm not looking forward to it as I think it had became too much of an mess to be worth salvaging for a restart.

Sure it was great at season 1 and it went all downhill after that (I blame partly on the writer strike). Seriously? Another eclipes? Anyone that did basic science knows another eclipse does NOT occur after the last one (it's a like a few years not months!).

It was intended as an anthology series, with a different cast of heroes each season. Unfortunately, Kring failed to either:

A) recognise that the fans wouldn't like that early enough that he could plan ahead for future plotlines better than he did (hence the only S1 thread left unresolved is a Deus Ex Machina "Oh look, Sylar's actually not dead")

or

B) have the courage to stick with his original plan. Instead we got a series that utterly fell apart after its originally intended endpoint.

However, this does make me at least hesitantly hopeful for the Miniseries. Seeing as how it is, at this point, just a miniseries, they should be able to play out a pre-determined plot with an actual endpoint as was originally intended, avoiding the issues that Series 2-4 suffered from so horrendously.

This could be good or it could be really, really awful. As everyone said, the later series were a total mess, but I think there's something worth salvaging out of it. Some of the ideas were pretty cool, but there's a lot of fat that could have been trimmed. If the show had focused on powers being revealed and powered people becoming fugitives a la Days of Future Past like it hinted at, then I think it could have been awesome. Certainly the handful of scenes we got with future Peter and future Claire were the best bits of some otherwise dire TV.

So yeah, if they know what mistakes they made in the past then I think the show has more to give, but if it turns into a directionless mess again then I'm out.

Well, the way I see it is that the show is heavily inspired by comics in the way the story tells itself, so what better way to fit that then to have a reboot?
Hopefully this time around they'll learn from the mistakes of the first series and actually have a cohesive narrative.
It would certainly be a lot better than "genetics are making you super powered. Also the moon sometimes. Also it's actually been around for thousands of years and it's happening more now because eh"
Also hopefully they can avoid over-powered Peter Petrelli thing. And no more Matt Parkman.
Come to think of it there is a lot of room for improvement.

OK I was worried they'd do a full-on reboot of the series... While I didn't necessarily like the direction they went after Season 2's abrupt ending, I still liked the series overall and was a bit sad that it didn't get picked up. SO here's to hoping it turns out well this time around.

In the end, I was watching it simply for whatever Sylar was doing that week. Mind you they never actually knew what to do with his character after the cheerleader was saved and the world with her.

Also Hayden Panettiere.

Towards the end, it was so bad, the big fight of the last series was basically 2 guys grimacing at each other, so yeah, I wasn't sad to see it end.

Not overly bothered the new series, if it turns up on TV I'll probably give it a watch, but I have no expectations that it'll actually be good.

I liked the first season, but then it all went downhill, no thanks to the writer's strike around the time of season 2. Personally, I'm hoping for a reboot that will wipe the slate clean, and make the story less of a clusterfuck (crosses fingers).

Nah, I feel like the show's time has long since passed. Like most other shows running at the time, this series was absolutely crippled by the writers strike. I can't think of a single show that I enjoyed watching at the time that came out of that unscathed (though it did mean that House got Olivia Wilde, so...)

And bringing Heroes back now? Why, that'd just be like bringing back Firefly. Sure, fans may want it, but then they'd watch it, and the nostalgia goggles would break, and they'd realise the show they loved so much wasn't actually very good in the first place... Uh, what was I saying..?

I'm super excited. Sure the later seasons were friggin awful, but to me it got to a point that it was so awful that it was corny as hell so super enjoyable. I was always miffed that the show didn't live up to its promise that season 1 showed, but in the end I still really enjoyed it.

I will say I'm honestly not sure what I want this to be though. Seasons 3-5 were cheesy as fuck with how serious they took themselves while simultaneously havin the most bassackward storytellin ever (the amount of hell/face turns that Sylar pulled that were played completely straight and no one seemed to question made me giggle). However because they were cheesy as fuck it was highly enjoyable to watch. On the flip side I really really wanted a serious story told like the first season.

Another thing that I just thought about, what exactly is Heroes going to bring to the table when we have Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, Arrow, Flash, etc.? And soon we'll have Marvel's netflix series about Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones. At the time Heroes was unique in being a live action superhero show, but now we have a bunch of pretty good ones with more on the horizon. What kind of hook does Heroes have now? How is it going to differentiate itself from the rest of these better properties? Is anyone going to care about Heroes when they can watch The Flash?
