Disregarding any terrible communities that just badmouths you, what do you think of competitive multiplayer games by itself? Or in other words, what do you think of the mindset of "playing to win"?

Since it has to involve badmouthing idiots and people who wouldn't know how to work as a unit even if you put them in a training camp and drilled them for 50 years, I think it's a waste of time.

Due to a lack of talent, I enjoy it for a while, then I start getting all competitive and I have to stop as I get frustrated.

I've played competitively in UT2004 for a number of yearsand the community as a whole was fantastic. I got to know a varied amount of people from various nations. It was incredibly fun and an enjoyable experience.

Do you mean competitive gaming, or playing on public servers of games that are competitive in nature, because the two are far removed.

I only really play any multiplayer games competitively anymore, apart from the odd coop when the opportunity comes along. When you play a game competitively it takes a long time to get old, there's always room for improvement and even when you do it's likely the opposition will as well. One can reach a stage in a game where you are good enough that doing anything other than playing competitively becomes boring, I've personally found that in some games, so competitive gaming has effectivel saved those titles from falling out of my gaming rotation.

I am not a competitive player, I am much more into coop (Horde in Gears, Fireflight in Halo and stuff like that).

However I do enjoy watching quality competitive gaming commentaries (StarCraft II or any team-nased FPS).

Yeah you could say I watch eSports (oh gawd).

Well, ignoring the badmouthing and annoying people on those servers, I do enjoy some competitive games now and then. I usually play unranked servers mostly to remind myself that games are for fun and not grind.

"No sir, I don't like it."

I play games to have fun. I don't have fun in a competitive environment. Local multiplayer is about as online as I'm willing to go, and even then only a small game.

4 Player Smash Brothers Brawl? Bring it.
16 Player Warcraft 3? Do Not Want.

Even then, I don't really have fun unless it's with family or friends.

All in all, I VASTLY prefer a solid single-player game than a solid multiplayer.

I've gotta say, I really enjoy competitive multiplayer. I've had far more good experiences online than bad and I generally find that the majority of lobbies are made up of alright people - it's just the vocal minority that you remember. It's easy enough to mute the odd gob-shite and if I'm playing team based games rather than free for all I'll go into a lobby with a party of friends so I know that half my team won't quit if the tide of battle goes against us.

If anything, I've found that co-operative multiplayer is a worse experience overall than competitive. In competitive play you're only really looking out for yourself and if you screw up no-one cares, but in co-op play there'll always be someone on your team that feels you're letting the team down or not pulling your weight, whether it's in L4D2 Campaign, MW2 Domination, or Halo:Reach Firefight - and that's what leads to the more unpleasant lobby encounters.

I think its fun, for a while until I start screaming and throwing my pad through the screen
But yeah its fun, and if I come across any 12 year olds then ill either mute or just laugh at them, not that much of a big deal
I like most competitive multiplays, shooting, racing, skating etc theyre fun.

Like internet porn, I continually need harder stuff to get my jollies. The same is true of gaming for me and lately I am disgusted with how soft modern fps games are.

I live for old skool run n' gun twitch; which is several magnitudes more complicated than todays pop-a-squat garbage.

The proof is in the sales. The easier they became for anyone to play, the more they became a standard house hold product as common as bleach.

But these are tough times, and devs can't afford ppl rage quitting after 1 guy annihilates an entire DM server; because the mechanics allow him to and don't forgive those who can't.

I usually only buy one single player or game per year, and its usually something no less epic than fall out. I've had my share of disposable samey games over the past couple of decades.

Online and offline co-op, single player, then competitive multiplayer, in that order. I like all flavours of gaming, but I find the adrenaline pumps online with the competitive multiplayer so I can't do that right before bed :)

The only time I play competitive multi-player is small at LAN parties (10-15 people) that my friends and I sometimes throw. Other than that I avoid it like the plague.

I liked the open beta they had for the new MoH. I don't know if they disabled radio chatter or what, but the lack of annoying voices was true bliss.
