Mostly stereotypes. Those arrogant, self-centered, greedy, obnoxious, stubborn, ignorant, aggressive americans are all that other countries ever see... especially because there seem to be alot of them in the government. they are easy to hate and becasue they somehow seem to keep being elected, most would assume the people of the country are like that too.

I don't hate the country itself, just some of the population and its politicians.

Firstly, the US does not have the capacity to destroy the world even once.
Well, if we put MAD in the equation, everyone has the capacity to destroy the world.
No, nobody has the capacity to destroy the world. They are able to destroy nations, sure, but that's not the same thing. In the event of a full scale nuclear war, most people (as in, somewhat more than half) would survive. Humanity would be set back decades or centuries, but it'd recover.

Thirdly, Nagasaki was justified to bring and end to WW2.
Not just ignoring hiroshima, but also that japan, germany and their allies didnt have a chance to win the war at that point. Brilliant.
I didn't say "win". I said "end".

You're right, Japan and its allies were long defeated by that point, but Japan refused to admit it. They were training schoolkids to attack enemy soldiers with pointy sticks rather than surrender.

Even after Nagasaki, there were many important Japanese people that wanted to keep fighting.

We just had one of these threads a couple months ago. Must we do it again?

Probably because people perceive Americans as being overly patriotic, proud, kind of socially backward sometimes, and beating up on Middle Eastern countries.

I like America (well, I live here, I guess I generally would), but in the end, we do as much stupid crap as any other country. We're just drawing the attention now.

Let us *please* separate "conservative religious types" from "all religious types." As a religious liberal, I resent that, and we need to stop spreading the ignorance that is "oh man, let's assume all Christians are dicks!" If I had a nickel for every time someone thought that way...

Well, we actually like US over here, in Poland, and i used to be quite a fan of it, but right now, after all the police violence, disrespecting of their own constitution and government making some very controversial decisions, I am concerned about what will happen there.

US is one of the greatest country in the world and yes I dare say many other countries out there wouldn't be without us. (Yes France we know you helped us during the Revolutionary War, thanks for that) Yea we stick our noses in where it doesn't belong. But think about WWI and WWII who was the major player in both wars? The U.S of A, hell even historians say if the US didn't get attacked at Pearl Harbor by Japan, then there'd be just one big Germany and one big Japan, then Africa (cause nobody wants that place) and America. (cause.. U.S of A!) Austrilia would still be there cause the land itself would kill the invading forces.

But the US has saved other countries many times and we give food to needy countries and have some of the best people in the world. (although I personally think we need to get shit set up in this country before we go to others and deal with them.)

But we are backwards on lots of things. As I said, we need to get things straight here before we go out and try to fix other places, and I think instead of sending billions of dollars of top quality foods to 3rd world countries, we should be sending billions of dollars to feed our homeless and poor instead.

So, while I do think we are the best at what we do, we're also blind to our own problems.

I don't hate Americans but I hold no respect for most of them since I watched Mississippi Burning. For those who aren't familiar with it, Mississippi Burning is a film about racism in the 1960s and it moved me quite a lot. After I watched I sat and thought for a few moments and reflected on what the non-racist North had done while there was racism still going around and it is evident from the film and the way America is run that they had done all they could and from what I thought, it had simmered down to some very localised incidents. The news the next day talked about two black school boys being beaten up in Alabama by White Supremecists. My initial thought was obviously 'how tragic.' I then looked on a news website to find out more and I saw a whole host of other incidents like this in the last few years, spread from Florida to Texas to Missouri and I just thought that no American could say they are a fair and well meassured human being with that amount of Racism going on in their country. Thats why I don't hold respect for Americans.

Fair enough about the "destroying of nations", but we've got no bloody idea what full-out nuclear war will do to the world and everything in it. Yeah, there are theoretical models and whatnot, but no physical proof.

Not true, the US wasn't the giant it is now in WW1.

Secondly, in WW2, though they were massively important, without them the war would have still been won by the Allies. The Germans couldn't hope to defeat the Soviets, and Japan was massively over-stretching itself.

Of course, the war would have dragged on for many years more, and the USSR would have gained much more territory in time for the Cold War, but that's another issue.

I certainly understand your point, but the US is hardly alone in that. Now, I know that's the cop out defense "but, but, everyone else is doing it!", and there is much to be condemned about the US in regards to racism, but it's still very easy to condemn foreign parts for failings you have at home.

Also, you can't respect USians as a whole? Aren't the victims of racism just as much citizens are the perpetrators?
