Hi. Today it's been 19 years since I was born. That's right it's my birthday :)

So why not start a discussion on what your birthday means to you? Do you celebrate it in any way, or is it just another day for you?

I think this is the first time when I didn't really think that much about it. I've been too busy moving to my first apartment and making preparations for art-school to pay any mind to it. When I was younger I practically counted the days.

So far, I've had some cake and got a gift-card for some new clothes, we'll see what happens next.

It's a good day to go out and get your friends to buy all your drinks.

Also it can be an excuse to suit up or costume up.

Edit: Oh and happy birthday!

Amen sister

Birthday piss up is where its at. Your mates making you down vile concoctions of alcohol and hot sauce and getting girls (or guys) to give you birthday kisses while making you dress up as spiderman or a french maid

My birthday is a good day to study for finals/ write papers. I got cursed with an early May birthday. I haven't had a free Birthday since 10th grade. On the other hand, it's Cinco De Mayo, so It's also good for celebrating on.

Nothing, just another day.
Sad really, since I don't celebrate any special day (national holidays, religious holidays or personal holidays), I have no idea how ordinary people feel about celebrations.
Sometimes things like this make me feel that I drift more and more apart from average humans :(

Not much to be honest.
People will be a bit nicer to me, I'll get Facebook messages from people I haven't seen in months/years, and I'll get a hundred bucks from my parents. Other than that, it's pretty much business as usual.

Very little, other than a reminder that I'm doing very little with my life...

I've haven't done anything special for my birthday since...I can't even remember. And because of that I've never even cared.

You could some it up in slightly more attention that usual, and small donations of money from relatives. Wouldn't ask for more.

Happy birthday, OP.

It pretty much means nothing to me but I'm only typing that cos I never once had a "good" birthday. (Like having an actual party, cake and the whole work.)
My birthday is only just my parent saying happy birthday and giving me cash as my present as getting my present from my bro too. Needless to say it is mundane at best and yes it is also a lonely one to boot.

Yeah, nothing at all.

I probably wouldn't even know/remember it was if it wasn't for my mother, being a mother.

I don't think I've had a birthday party or anything really since I was about 12 or so.

Hi, Vancleef. Today it's been 26 years since I was born. That's right it's my birthday (too!) :)

Anywho... it's mostly just a normal day for me. I use it as an excuse to buy some soda and food that I enjoy that I normally wouldn't eat because of how shitty it is for me, maybe spend a bit of money on a new game or something, and just relax.

If my birthday happens to fall on a work day, I might request it off. Like a back in 2011 I took my birthday off to play Deus Ex: Human Revolution since it was released the day before my birthday and I'm a pretty big fan of the series.

For my last birthday I went to work, had a normal work day then bought alcohol and watched a lot of "Archer." That was a good birthday to me. I just don't care about anything to do with birthdays, other than the money and excuse to drink during the week. I've never had a really good birthday before, though, so I guess I haven't got that kind of nostalgic feeling towards it that most people get.

But Happy Birthday to you, Vancleef and Tuesday Night Fever!

Here I thought I was a weirdo for not spending my birthday getting drunk with my friends since... 10 years? I guess I'm still cool compared to those who do literally nothing.

I usually spend my birthday with my family. That's great because I love them and any excuse to get together, be happy and eat great food is fine with me.

Shit, let's not talk too much about our birthdays. I keep forgetting about mine every year and I turn 20 on Labor Day.

It really just means that I'm getting closer to that point where I start calling people a few years younger than me "kids."

Being as I'm 18 going on 19, birthdays have kinda represented a gradual shift towards thresholds in order to be able to do certain things. X years until I'm in the "proper" age range to play with certain toys only the "grownup" kids can play (Who are like... 12 or so); x years until I'm no longer a child, but a teenager and therefore worthy of respect. X years until I can legally begin to drive, get interrogated without a parent, go out without worrying about curfew, give consent legally, am a legal adult and can thus vote/sign up to get shot at for whatever reason my superiors thought was a good idea/struck their fancy that day etc.

The milestones have lost a bit of their meaning now though, as it's become increasingly apparent that age doesn't really guarantee much past a rather nebulous line somewhere in the latter half of one's teen years, and even then a lot of people just don't give a fuck about the legal limitations on things like drinking, smoking... well really just those 2 since they're the last major age barriers to pass in the US unless you want to be a congressman. But still. And at least with things like a drivers license or age of consent, it hasn't really mattered to me personally because even if I wanted to there was no way I could have gotten a driver's license when I was 16 and I'm socially inept in just the right ways to either completely miss any queues someone likes me or just generally be unattractive to every female I've met.

TLDR: Birthdays don't matter so much anymore because, once you are past any legal age barriers, each year is just the mark of another 365 (And some change) days gone by and a good excuse to do something fun and/or stupid.
