What does your parents think of the internet?

Pretty normal opinions. My mother's used to it due to her job being fairly technical, while my dad makes less use of it but will do so occasionally (mostly golf and eBay really). The only thing is that they're rather skeptical of credit card security, reasoning that because it CAN theoretically be cracked, it WILL be. Or at least at first. They eventually eased up no that a bit, as long as they're using sites they know to be secure.

My mom is... okay for a business woman I guess. My dad's ambition is to learn to use a computer... as in turn it on and log in and press click the start button without having an aneurysm... strange for such a qualified man...

My mom only uses it for communication and information, but she thinks it's way too complex for her.

My dad loves it, he uses it for fueling his hobbies and finding information. Recently, I think he's been on the Internet longer than I have.

My mum and sis both know how to use it but they refuse to use Google Chrome instead of IE because that's the internet it came with......im disappoint.

Yeah, same here, I installed Chrome on all of the computers, but I'm the only person who uses Chrome.

OT: my parents are pretty good at using one, not completely surprised since they got a computer when windows 95 came out..... 28.8k modem with yahoo internet and AOL.... God I feel old.

My mother uses it to play bingo and my father uses it for porn. I have to scan my laptop every time he uses it. He always leaves the pop ups open and when i ask about it he says it must be mine haha.

Back on topic now. You might want to *****-slap me for saying this, but I think your mother is being a bit paranoid, but I can relate to this. Back in 2006, when I started using the internet on a more regular basis, my very own mother would get freaked out over me watching internet videos with people in them. She would start yelling at me, telling me "not to talk to strangers". That happened quite a lot of times, especially when I'm watching a live-action trailer for a game or movie, such as this:
She'd get freaked out because she'd think I was talking to a random person over MSN, even when the window is clearly labelled "YouTube"
Don't ask me about watching developer diaries.

My dad runs his own website and has... I think 4 different working computers in his house? Yeah. He knows his way around the internet.

As for my mum, she uses it and understands most of what is going on, but needs help sometimes.

They basically both think that Google, yahoo and Youtube make up entirety of the internet.

I've never seen my Dad use the internet for anything other than looking up recipes on Google, and even then only if he can't find it one of his several dozen cookbooks. I'd estimate that at least 90% of his computer use is playing solitaire.

My mom is a bit more computer and internet savvy, but still only uses it for emailing and watching cat videos.

My dad thinks that every time eBay changes its layout or the cache gets corrupted or something and it appears different then normal that it must be a phishing site and somebody is trying to steal his identity. Better safe than sorry I guess, though I'm glad he doesn't know how to use email and probably won't end up on one since actual phising sites usually look identical.

Though neither of them seem to think anything particularly unusual about it.

On a side note, one of my sisters got super pumped when I banner ad told her that she was X visitor and had won X million dollars, and the other one has installed adware on the family computer at least twice in the past few months...and shes on there every damn day...kind of hard not to be able to tell those messages from hacked messenger accounts are fake, but then again all the stupid kids fall for them, though I've never had to learn from that mistake because I'm awesome *smugface*

Once, one of my sisters was on a certain website which showed you, "all the celebs e-mails".
She would e-mail them every day.
She would also get rather strange e-mails back. The old, "we should meet up some time" and, "why don't we go shopping?".

Now, since I am the only one in my house with any knowledge of codes and how computers work, I was forced to shut down the e-mail account, and block the website.

My dad is obsessed with his smart-phone and online poker.
