My parents are in their mid 40's. One is currently brushing the high score tables on the Facebook game she plays (not sure how to feel about that, proud i got a mum who is good at games i guess) and the other plays CoD4 online and currently makes his living from a dating website.

Yep, 'nuff said.

My dad probably knows how to use the internet better than i do. Now that IS a scary thought.

My god man. Amazing avatar. I laughed. Not 'lol'd, I actually laughed.
Oh, right, topic. My parents are fine with it, but clumsy and generally terrible with technology. A lot of my other relatives fear it though. They think they'll get all their credit card information stolen etc.

My mom (whom I love dearly) is obsessed with computers, even though she is completely ignorant of how to use them. I own a computer shop so she likes to have an interest in what I do and I keep her up to date with the latest and greatest toys, but she is clueless. She knows she wants it, but has no idea what it does.

My father, on the other hand, last I heard from him he had just bought his first computer (about 10 years ago) and the only thing he wanted it for was to browse the websites for lowes and homedepot (he is a carpenter).

All in all though my favorite family member's computer shenanigans was my grandfather. My grandfather believed that computers and the internet was a government scheme to keep tabs on the population and refused to have one in his home. My grandfather liked to brew his own beer, but his micro brewery broke down (some part on it, don't remember which) So I brought over my laptop and a wireless air card and introduced him to ebay and beerrecipes.org.... I had to build him a computer the very next day and get internet hooked up at his house. He spent his last 5 years of life buying crap on ebay and trying new beer recipes. I have since inherited his microbrewery and his favorite recipes and he will be remembered fondly

My mom only uses it for facebook,(its getting to the point where its the main source of communication) and will only use her credit card on sites that have some of the strongest secruity.... still refuses to upgrade its speed from 1/10 of a mega bit.(makes gaming a pain in the ass.)i am not evan kidding about the speed.

mom: ebay, facebook, casual gamer.
dad: computers may as well be mysterious alien technology.

My dad thinks the computer in general is an evil contraption that devours your soul. If only he knew what he was missing out on... Of course he blames the internet for every problem in our house. "The phone's not working. Go unplug that damned internet." --"Uh, Yeah... remember? This happens every year... before we even got internet..." --"Bull**** I know it's that internet (insert random swearing/rage here)!"

Parents at this stage are incapable of handling/understanding the internet. It's grown far out of their control and they are lost as to how to regain it. It just passes them by.

My parents are OK with the internet. They can see that it has its uses, but they can't really understand how someone can spend a lot of time on the internet.

My Mom believes that the internet is filled exclusively with rapists and hackers that can magically steal everything you own.

My Dad just doesn't care.

You feel old for that? It feels like that was yesterday...

Now I feel old, damn it.
Well, since you asked....

I feel old from the two combat tours and jumping out of a truck with 50-100lbs (22.7-45.3kg) of gear, mentally not really, physically I feel like shit.

I just said I "feel" old from that because some people here (I'm sure) don't know what dial up is.

My mum is aware of it, and I made her an email address, she also has a Facebook but never uses it. She doesn't think it's very important however, and can't use it without quite a lot of help still.

My dad doesn't understand it at all, gets irrationally angry at both it and computers (despite not using them); blaming them whenever something he doesn't understand goes wrong, and believes the interpretation of internet crime portrayed in the media. He will never use one willingly for anything.

The same is not true of my grandparents however, who have no problem using and keeping up with technological advances.

Well mom thinks the internet it's a fine tool for researching.

Dad on the other enjoys finding 200 videos of tv bloopers and funny accidents everytime he searches for them on youtube. He also reads some news on the web, but he mostly sticks to plain old tv and newspaper.

They don't really care as long as I don't spend too much time on it. My Dad thinks I should go someplace new, instead of here, and he also thinks that I should spend my time doing something more productive than Youtube[sub]When I go on for laughs.[/sub] Gaming counts as productive.

They're not as 'technophobic' as some are and in fact they're pretty cool about it.
