So, I recently bought Persona 4 Arena, and I quite like it as a fighting game. And much like fellow Arksys game BlazBlue, I've managed to get somewhat-halfway-decent at it (I managed to get to B rank in Ranked games).

But (and this is true of really any fighting game), there is NOTHING more annoying than getting killed by the same guy over and over again online, ESPECIALLY when you're about to rank-up. It brings me to anger so deep, it actually makes me physically harm myself (by punching my own leg so hard). I think I need to invest in a punching bag to hang next to my PS3 before I try to play this game again online.

Another thing that pisses me off? Final Fantasy X-2. Just... Final Fantasy X-2. That is all.

And the rest of you?

I hate it when publishers think it's a good idea to say "FUCK YOU" to the fans with bullshit such as online passes and DRM.

I really don't have anything else other than that. :-|

Feeling a lack of control.
Not necessarily limited to bad controls per se, but also those times where your being beaten by something to the degree that you literally cannot do anything about it.

I want to smash developer skulls when that happens.

Lag.

I can handle losing due to something excellent my opponent has done.
I can handle losing due to my own incompetents
I can handle losing to just plain bad luck.

But losing because of lag? Good God that puts me in a baby-punching-angry mood...

My connection rocks damn it! I'm paying a lot more money for this connection due to the speed and losing because my opponent has "broadband" that would make dial-up wonder what's taking so long...

Cheaters and spammers, whats the point of playing the game if you're gonna cheat. Have some honor of the love of Cthulhu.

Fake difficulty (e.g. AI getting ridiculous buffs and cheats but not getting any smarter or more skilled), game breaking bugs in favour of the AI characters, game developers using "it's my artistic vision" as an excuse for incompetence, DRM, online passes, etc.

Some gamers themselves can be extremely annoying too. I cannot believe how many times I have gone into a Capture the Flag match with teammates who do not seem to understand it is NOT Deathmatch/Slayer/etc. One's K/D ratio means jack squat if the other team gets a shutout with three captures over our zero. People getting whiny over not getting a power weapon, especially when they are terrible with said weapon, is also high up on the list.

Unnecessary bullshit that only pads the game. I don't mean stuff like useless side quests or stuff like that. I mean like when they throw a boss at you and you prove your skills against it, only for them to make you fight it again. I ALREADY DEFEATED IT, I ALREADY BEAT THAT CHALLENGE. Or, alternatively, just forcing you to sit through boring shit that adds nothing and breaks the flow completely, like that stupid job in Super Paper Mario for the Wii or those horrible cutscenes to Dante dramatically looking up and smiling while a new wave of enemies appear on the new DMC.

As far as games, I really hate battles that hinge on things other than your skill with the battle system. Case in point: The first time I played the final boss sequence in Kingdom Hearts 2, I lost the fight and had to start the stage all over because there was a point where I had to stop playing normally and just mash the triangle button as fast as I could. Unfortunately I wasn't quite ready when it happened, so I wasn't able to get my hand in an ideal place to mash the button quickly, and I lost.

Seriously? After all my leveling, all the skills I obtained, all of the fighting patterns I worked out, all the items and equipment I had on me the final boss battle ends up hinging on how fast I can mash the fucking triangle button? That's downright insulting.

As far as the gaming community, I'm really annoyed by people who are so convinced that their idea for where games should go is right that any other trend that occurs is wrong. For example, the people who honestly think there isn't "room" in the games industry for companies that cater to casual gamers. That's like saying there isn't enough "room" in the literary world for historical fiction, so we have to stop making those books in order to make more room for high fantasy. It's that ridiculous "Nobody is allowed to like things that I don't like" mindset, and anyone who ascribes to it deserves to stub their toe on something hard every single morning when they get out of bed.

Very little in terms of "gameplay" stuff. Most of what annoys me happens either outside of the games, or is shackled to the games I'd like to play.

EA's Origin, and their insistence on having titles be exclusively available on it, for example.

But, mostly it's Activision Blizzard's... well, the company in general now. They destroyed Diablo, lowered the standards for the entire industry, single handedly increased the cost of all DLC - and proved that there are enough dumb rich idiots in the world that people who want the video game medium to live up to it's potential are worthless target groups.

Oh well, at least the indie community is alive and well.

Games where you character can get knocked down or something similar and it takes ages to get back up. That is so fucking annoying.

"Let's have a save point right before an unskippable cutscene, and then let's follow that with a very challenging part of the game so that when you die you get to re-watch the cutscene!
Again.
And again.
AND AGAIN."

Any developer who so much as thinks these words earns my eternal hatred.

Idiot AI partners, especially ones that get in the way. Colonial Marines has this one in spades. It feels like everytime I'm lining up a shot one of those morons steps right in front of me.

Once, I was lining up a grenade shot and just as I pull the trigger, one dumbass marine steps right in front of me. The grenade explodes when it hits him. He can't die, so he's good, but the blast kills me and I have to replay the last ten minutes all over again.

Let's make everything dark and edgy for the sake of being...dark and edgy...

It annoys me, we have so many "grimdark" games and very little games where shit isn't hitting the fan. I know it can be done well, but give FFX-2 some credit, the main cast weren't getting depressed over every plot revelation and was a lighthearted adventure. It annoyed when devs wanted to make FF13-2 "dark and mysterious" when it was more lighthearted than FF13, a game where hardly any of the main cast could crack a legitimate smile.

Also people saying "Wii-U is a failure" Oh yeah, because it selling several million units in the span of a few weeks is awful.
I like to think of X-2 as "Yuna's Angels", the adventures of three babes bopping around the world fighting evil. It's either that or "X-2: It's Better Without Tidus".

Well for some specific relatively recent examples when picking up the final Riddler trophy to get to the Riddler in Batman: AC only for the game to crash and then give me a black screen next time I tried to load my game. Fortunately i managed to sort that out before I threw something through a wall.

When fighting the iron golem in Dark Souls I nearly killed the damn thing but it manages to land one grab attack and throw me off the side. This wouldn?t have been such a big deal if my character had not hit a small unreachable ledge on the way down and all my souls and humanity ended up on that ledge so couldn't get it back. Usually before a boss fight I spend most my souls but that time I hadn't and so was carrying a fair amount around along with 6 humanity. Also dying to the flame attack right as I killed the Bed of Chaos and so getting no souls for that fight.

For less specific examples when you line up a shot and fire...only to have it hit and invisible barrier because the hit box for objects in the environment is much bigger than what you can actually see.

In rpg's mostly the recent Bioware rpg's when you pick a dialogue option and what that character says is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Especially when said option leads to a sex scene.

When your playing an MMO just minding your own damn business and some idiot manages to agro far more than they can handle (or was just being an ass and doing it on purpose) and runs towards you getting you killed.
Similarly when your in a team and one of them just keeps running off or agroing everything.

LAAAAAGGG!

When you have a hard section in a game that you will you have to repeat more than once and it either has an unskippable cut scene (why any developers dose this I have no clue, cut scenes should always be skippable) or some dialogue at the start which gets really annoying.

It's barely sold a million units in the US and has dropped to the kind of low point you only see when a console gets replaced by a successor.

The future could hold any number of reversals, but for now, "failure" isn't exactly inaccurate.

(I know it's only US numbers, but I feel the point stands.)

OT:

People who don't know what the fuck they're doing. There's being bad, there's being new, and then there's . . . god, I don't even know how to describe it. QED, I was playing Left 4 Dead 2 earlier today, and for a solid three quarters of the Hard Rain campaign, this guy is on my team, and I honestly don't think he knew how to play the game. Like, at all.

He barely ever moved, and it was generally in the wrong direction. He took a solid three seconds to turn around. He tried to shove away un-shovable zombies.

And when playing as the zombies? Oh my god, when playing as the zombies.

He just did not attack. All he would do was walk up to the survivors and try to scratch them. He didn't vomit on them, he didn't spit acid, he didn't pounce on them, he . . . he just walked up to them.

I mean, in a game where there are multiple options to practice either by oneself or in a less competitive environment, I really don't think there's any excuse for that kind of crap. Not to sound like an elitist prick, but jeez.

When there's clipping errors in a cut-scene (if it's something like a character trying to hold a rifle like pistol or something, I have more forgiveness). It's funny and agrevating at the same, because it shows a lack of Q&A and attention to detail. You're basically showing off your graphics and your graphics are fucking up.

Fighting games have always really pissed me off but also bought me so much joy as well bringing me the lowest lows and highest highs but the things that really piss me off in them are cheating A.I you know what I mean when they predict your every move and react perfectly no matter what mix ups you have and the other one is losing online due to lag.

Seriously losing because it takes a second for your button press to equate to anything on screen is absolute bullshit and then you see them teleporting around the screen making it impossible to react. I lost to some guy yesterday when all (s)he was doing was jumping in hard kick then sweep and yet I couldnt block low enough in time because of the input lag nor could I counter with an anti air because of the delay damn that annoyed me.

You also get instances where their slowest attack comes out faster than your fastest and you just think really f**k this shit. Teabagging and trolling also piss me off i.e you create a beginners room and you get some A ranked idiot join and destroy everyone or they create a new account so they can grief low level players pretending to be low rank.

Losing because you have been outplayed is annoying but I can handle it and in some cases I am really impressed at the other persons skill although it does tend to get annoying after 20 times in a row especially if they are so good that you dont really get to push more than 1 button before you die again, but losing when you know you should not be because of factors outside your control is infuriating.

QTEs , time limits and escort missions also tend to annoy me but thats only if they are done poorly.
