I'm wondering how Star Citizen is coming along, the news seems to have been dry on it for some time now. So, did it get cancelled while no one was looking? Last thing I remember was a story about how they had reached 50 million dollars for development and where STILL looking for more.

I wasn't planning on jumping onto the hype train, but I was watching from the sides since the concept did look interesting. All I remember is the stories went from 'new interesting concept kickstarter', to 'kickstarter wroked', to 'making more money after kickstarter' and then nothing.

Has anything new happened over the past 6 months for the game?

Captcha: how interesting

It's still ticking along.

The hype has calmed down a bit because, well, people inevitably get bored. There's only so many times you can say, "OMG, IT"S GONNA BE THE BEST EVER."

I'm currently space trucking in Elite Dangerous, so I can wait until judgement day for Star Citizen. Maybe I'll pick it up someday, possibly, perhaps.

I mean, the screens look very pretty, but it's about as assembled as a piece of Ikea furniture. They have a couple modules, but they just kind of exist in a vacuum.

Also, I don't like the whole, ask for 200 dollars for a virtual ship so we continue to make the game that we're also going to sell. Makes my nose twitch.

It's ticking along nicely. Their roadmap has this year being a really big one. So I'd say you should forget about it again for another 9 months or so. Then check on it.

It's still going very strong, plenty of progress and interesting updates if you follow their newsletters and various video series. The game is far more ambitious than I (or anyone else including the dev's I suspect) thought it would be so it's taking quite some time, but the first part of their singleplayer campain "Squadron 42" is due Q4 of 2015.

If you pledged for the game you can already play the multiplayer PvP mode "Arena Commander", which is actually coming along pretty nicely. Multi-crew ships are not far away and FPS combat is also due in the relatively near future.

I don't think you'll really hear any major news come from SC until summer though. Most people are over the initial hype and are waiting for the developers to do their magic.

So far the ships are beautifull, but the my 4 gb of ram have a hard time to play the game. like Nox said, the Arena commander is up right now, so it's playable either in PVP, or against drone, or in free flight, just to test ships. there's 2 playable maps.

The controls seems pretty smooth. i play with a xbox controller and the game mapped it right away.

From my POV it is like this. The game has a good premise, kinda like the X-Series but slightly arcadier. This isn't bad in itself. But the game got hyped into the sky and now they have too much money. They are promising too much, the game can never be good. It will fail like the Tower in Babel did, just not by god but us the Video Game fans. Also, the whole Free2Play Economy that the game has atm isn't good. They should have made the Kickstarter and created a game that is like X but simplified and an added Multiplayer. But now it's just too much.

I'm not sure if it's going to be online like Elite: Dangerous or not.
(something about Squadron 42, which is Starlancer 2..ish? and an offshoot from Star Citizen itself?).
What I do know though is that you won't be able to Play in third person view, or chase cam as it's called as well.
Observe your ship, yes, Play, no.

The progress train appears to steaming along productively through the hinterlands. Track is being laid. Passengers are embarking. Chuffchuffchuffchuffchuffchuff...

As I understand it its going to be this weird kind of instanced thing where you can have more or less other players in your game area depending on your settings. Like...low difficulty pirate hunting might be against an NPC. But higher difficulty might be another player. That kind of thing.

There's a straight up single player campaign too. But the meat of it is this almost MMO-hybrid thing. I'm a little disappointed that its going to have to be online at all though. I kinda wanted a playground to mess about in but no matter.

To put it more accurately, the main single player campaign, Squadron 42, is going to be a traditional combat space sim along the lines of Wing Commander (which, like Star Citizen, was Chris Roberts' baby) or TIE Fighter. The "MMO Hybrid thing" is going to take its cues more from the space trading genre -- Elite, the X series, Wing Commander: Privateer, etc.. It's basically going to be an MMO-combat-and-trading-space-sim with a single player story mode that acts as a tutorial.

Thank you for the clarifications.
So they too are going the online route with their Main game...
That's disappointing as hell.

I never played Starlancer, even though I own it, but I have played Tachyon: The Fringe, which I understand is similar to Wing Commander, TIE Fighter, Starlancer and Sqadron 42.
That was a couple of years ago though and I've come to expect a bit more than just instanced and scripted fighting.
I sincerely hope Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen spawn an offline version of Elite, Freelancer, etc..
Freelancer with mods (Discovery right now) still tide me over.
Well, there was that one game..Starpoint Gemini. It just didn't do it for me. It lacked something.
