I hate it because I never see my buddy anymore since he got it.

It is deliberately designed to be addictive and exploitative of peoples' obsessive, compulsive nature and it sucks peoples souls out through their eyeballs in a way no other game/MMO does.
people only get addicted if they want to
You're joking, right?
Nope, you simply stop paying the sub and stop playing, easy peasy

Unless someone out there uses it to justify their own existence in which case I have to laugh at them

Pre-BC WoW, the original World of Warcraft was the funnest game I have ever played, and I think it will always be to me. But the more it progresses, the worse it gets. When you raided in vanilla and you got blues, you were happy. Now it's just...empty to me, the atmosphere, the art, the direction it's heading, Wrath just isn't fun to me because when I raided, I didn't have that "epic" feeling that I had when I raided Pre-BC, and when I first played it, it felt like i was in an gigantic world full of action and adventure, but as time passed by, I suppose everyone loses that feeling.

I guess i'm just nostalgic.

Casuals, only the ones that beg for everything to be available to them and bosses to be easier. I personally could care less about "hard" modes if the devs didn't give into every whim of the casuals and made bosses hard to begin with. Now don't get me wrong I was (note the past-tense) a casual but more of a hardcore casual my guild was one of the top 3 casual guild on my server because while raiding we took it seriously. So in a nutshell the "casual" casual.

-Now if they made the game hard again I would jump back in almost immediately.
Yes, make Illidan, Arthas etc actually a challenge. No damn "weakened state" by some magical BS.

I am going to be honest here and say that I am usually a sucker for MMORPG's granted I am not an addict and I don't spend every waking second on games such as world of warcraft but on the other hand I wouldn't say I am a casual gamer. Anyway on to the point I didn't like world of warcraft for one simple reason, when I played it I didn't have fun. I understand that it is a fairly complex game and many people say that it gets a lot better later on in the game but I don't think you should have to play a game for weeks/months before it starts getting better. Anyway I suppose it just comes down to the fact that I didn't enjoy the time I spent on the game so I just didn't play it... I know that heaps of world of warcraft people out there are probably going to hurl abuse at me about this but meh

Iv played wow for about 2.5 years now and i have to say that its still a good game. Its not amazing in terms of new ideas but its solid and still alot more engaging than other mmo's i have dabbled in. I'm not a blizzard fan boy as such (though i do love sc and wc3) but obviously my opinion is biased towards defending it but from where i stand it seems alot of the hate directed at wow comes from people who never really played "end game" at its best or those who did too much and got burned out, additionally when people are looking to have a dig at video games in general wow is the biggest and easiest target out there, further contributing to the stigma that alot of the gaming community and society in general associate with it. We call it the tall poppy syndrome in Australia but hey thats just my 2 cents :)

I refuse to play any game that has a monthly fee. Not that I can't afford it, it's just a matter of principle.

Um, yes that is the point of all MMO's, to make you play them more. Have some self control and get friends with self control and this would not have happened.
'Get some friends with self-control and this would not have happened'

I can't even begin to explain what an ignorant statement that was. Coupled with the slightly sarcastic and aggressive tone you have a rather all-round stupid post there.

I flux in and out of it. I've only been playing maybe three months, on and off, and I hit lvl 47 the other day.

It depends what mood I'm in, some days the grind will bother me so much I'll just leave it, and I can see how it would irritate some people to no end. And I can also see how addictive it can be. However, I think the fact that it is JUST A GAME can be misconstrued and people either take it too seriously, or think it's unethical or outrageous.

It's also great for avoiding study =3

Immense amounts of grind required for levelling and everything you need.
A pointless PVP system that serves no benefit for the actual game itself (seriously, it's so limited in actual experience, at least the PVE is constantly expanding). My main problem with this is that WoW makes it look like its PVP system is very important to the game itself, yet you see far more of the game and get better loot when you raid.
The end-game itself (raids) require too much time and effort for me (sitting down and playing for several hours at the same thing does not amuse me).

Of course, these are my own personal gripes. They aren't really reasons why WoW is terrible, just that I find the game repetitive and a bit too time-consumiing. As opposed to DDO, which I can play for an equivalent amount of time because everything is constantly changing (new monsters, new foes, new challenges. Rather than spending 1 hour taking down one dragon, you'll spend 50 minutes fighting through a dungeon infested with traps and demonic forces to reach a final 10 minute climax with a dragon).

Please don't flame me for my opinion. These are just my problems with what I experienced with WoW. Now, I've seen parts of the endgame, and played some PVP on a friend's account. As far as my own personal experience with WoW, I played to level 10 (Dwarf Warrior), and got bored.

When it comes to the most popular MMORPG, it will definitely also be the most hated MMORPG.

I liked World of Warcraft. I had bigger PvP battles than Guild Wars did, but it wasn't quite as stimulating. Raiding with seventy-nine other individuals to take down the Alliance leaders was a blast back in the day.

My only complaint is the game is too easy. YES, it is time consuming, but I got to level eighty in a one month. I bought the game a week before Lich King was even released. Shortly after, I got a Netherdrake (requires 5,000 gold to purchase Epic Flying, then serious farming of faction points to get the Netherdrake) in TWO DAYS. Then, I attempted full Tier 7 (some 7.5) PvP armor. I got a full set in about three days.

When you know what to do, it's simple. It's tedious at times but there are ways to make it thrilling.

Going to Outlands, flying with your Netherdrake at nearly an unmatchable speed, finding lower level noobs and condemning them to their doom is hilarious fun.

This game in general was fun, but I lost interest when I felt like I accomplished what I could. I personally find raiding to be boring compared to PvP. I didn't want to do Heroics except to get better weapons.
