Isn't a trademark of Kratos, that he kills every single person he sees (unless they're a child or a sexy female), regardless of helpfulness?
A dude gives him a bow in GoW 3 (which is very helpful actually) and Kratos just butchers him anyways. Seems like a thankless protector to me
