It would be X [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/326.166262], followed by XIII [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.203989-Sassafrass-Reviews-Final-Fantasy-13-English-360-and-a-small-extra], VII and X-2 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.291553-Sassafrass-Reviews-Final-Fantasy-X-2]
Take out that piece of shit known as VII and you've got mine as well in that same order ;P

I've played III,IV, and V and of those IV is my favorite. (Cecil kicks ass). V is a close second with III coming in an appropriate 3rd though they were all amazing in their own rights.

I have to go with VIII,
yeah I'm one of those *chuckles*

I'll be upfront, that is almost all because of nostalgia, it was my first of the series and I got it when I was like 8
(and I managed to work out the junction system without any trouble).
It was all about the story and characters and I'd never played a game that felt so...
well, like a final fantasy game. And OHMYGOD the cutscenes.
I loved every second of it and I still go back and play through it regularly.

FFIV takes second.

FFVII in first place for oh so many reasons - Vincent, gameplay, music, Vincent, storyline, Vincent, characters, magic system, Vincent... You get the idea.

But VI comes a very close second. Kefka is one of my favourite villains ever, the opera aria is incredible and it's just an amazing game. Love it.

After that, I'd say IX and VIII, then IV. The others I have enjoyed, but VI and VII stand out most for me.

IX. It was amazing, had my favorite FF protagonist and a wonderful cast of colorful characters.

And I personally loved Quina, right behind the god of Black Mages, Vivi.

Problem with 7: Cloud weilds a sword bigger than him and PHEONIX DOWN THE FUCKING ***** WHO DIED
snip
I have lost count of how many times I've said this but PHEONIX DOWN DOES NOT BRING PEOPLE BACK FROM THE DEAD, IT BRINGS THEM BACK FROM THE BRINK OF DEATH. If all three characters are incapacitated in combat then it's game over because there's no one there to use pheonix down and you all bleed to death or whatever. When Aeris died she was ACTUALLY dead. And as for Cloud's sword, it's a Final Fantasy game, outrageously huge weapons and hair are what it's all about!

Anyway, VII is far and away the best as far as I'm concerned. I don't blame anyone who plays it now and doesn't like it, I imagine it's very dated in many ways. But it's one of my favourite stories in ANY medium, not just games, and it helped me through the shitstorm of early adolescence. I feel like all the characters are old friends, corny as that sounds.

X is my second favourite, followed probably by VI, then VIII then IX. All the ones before VI are good but I feel the series didn't really "come of age" until VI. All of them after X are just unadulterated shit. Well, XII had a few good points I guess, but it was missing the spirit of FF in my opinion.

I love talking about FF, can you tell?

I liked IX a lot. While the storytelling was problematic (even moreso than the average JRPG) and the combat fairly average, the writing, at a local level, was the best in the series. It helps that it had an excellent localisation. That's mainly what made it so enjoyable to me. Oh, and it has my favorite overall soundtrack, too.

FFVII mainly because Crisis Core was the only FF game I ever completed, I love its story, and the little I have played of FFVII (read the rest on Wiki), I <3 that game. Although, VIII was my first FF, and FFVI was the only one I played a decent amount in.

I suppose Dissidia can be listed as a favorite too, for obvious reasons.

Viva La PSP! :)

FF7. It was my first FF game and my first JRPG. I know it's unfashionable to praise 7 these days, and god knows the franchise-within-a-franchise has been milked to death, but it really was something special back then.

Other than that I've only played 8 and 9. 8 was... alright. Never finished 9 because I found the plot incomprehensible and gave up on it. Twice.

I have a favorite for each era. Nes/Snes era, ff6. PS1 era, ff9. ps2, ffx. as for the ps3, well, I'm waiting for something better than 13.

IV and VI for me. The SNES games are classics in my opinion. Haven't played any of the PS1 games except for VII thoguh, IX looks really good however.

Definitely X, bar none. But it should be noted that I have only played X, X-2 and XIII. It shouldn't be seen as a sign that I only pick that one because the others are basically crap (which they are). I genuinely love the game - as much as I love seeing Spoony pick on it.

Final Fantasy X
Now, I hated Tidus as much as everyone else, but it was my first PS2 game and just hearing the characters actually speak as well as the amazing graphics was so damn awesome. The combat system was also imo the best one so far in Final Fantasy games. I loved that it got more strategic and that you could plan ahead.
Blitzball sucked big time though.

Well, im a big fan of my life as a king, but theres some flaws like the load times that mean its not my favourite.

FFXII almost gets it, but the story wasnt too good after the halfway point, and I cant even remember the villans name.

So its goes to FFX. Because I like it, the ending made me cry, and Blitzball is cool.

FFIX ranks very high on my "best games evah" list. Granted, I only played ones on PS1 and a little bit of X (which I think is awesome) + XIII (which sucked in my humble opinion) but there's just something about it.

6. The story is great, the villain is awesome and it was the last game made before Square let that white-haired, not-compensating-for-anything pretty boy take over the franchise.

Well I would go for VII then either VI or X followed by IV
VII is the only one I have been able to replay to completion multiple times and still enjoy it.
VI had a great archenemy in Kefka who along with Sephiroth and Golbez rank as the best the series has ever produced imo but the combat got a bit dull after a while and the end game was rubbish.
X had great combat (possibly the best in the series) and easily the best end game of any offline Final Fantasy the only trouble with the game was it didnt let you explore much (and some cutscenes). (also just out of interest did anyone not have Yuna on their team when tackling the dark aeons? even though im sure its possible to get by without her)
IV just exceeded my expectations after finding V,I and II pretty poor (played III at a later date found it a bit rubbish) my expectations were low and while I wasnt ready to hate it like I was initially with VII it charmed its way into my life with interesting characters and an engaging story yeah ok the combat was still bad but the ATB system was an improvement. What I enjoyed most about it was Golbez who would blow Kefka and Sephiroth out of the water with his badassness (yes that is a word as of now) if only they didnt go for that ridiculous ending they pulled the same crap later in IX and it was just as bad then except IX had a rubbish villain to start with so I dont care that they did it there.

I would also mention Dissidia Duodecim as my favourite final fantasy spinoff game didnt like tactics or Dissidia but for some reason I couldnt put down Duodecim until I had finished it 120 hours later.
