This generation: Bad Company. I like the humor in that game. It doesn't take itself too seriously.

All time: Doom 2. The level design is genius and I love the dark sense of humor it has.

If Max Payne 2 wasn't a third person shooter I would have to say that one though.

Hmm... Any one of the Halo games. I'm currently leaning towards either Halo 3: ODST for the wonderful open-world sandbox city (I know some found it boring, but I actually have an attention span... :p) and Reach's camapaign for general awesomness.

Half-Life 2 is overrated, but I feel its passive storytelling earns it an honourable mention here.
not any one, of the halo games, halo 1, i'll grant you. halo 3, no way, halo odst MORE no way, and yes i have an attention span. cant judge reach because i havent played it yet.
ill give you HL2 .XD

Wow, way to provide a compelling argument and reasons for your opinions. /sarcasm

Half-Life 2 was average mostly (though I was only able to play up to the conclusion of that terrifying place known as Ravenholm - I'll finish it when I can, but that won't be for a while). I just thought the stories told by the environments were neat. I still prefer Halo's campaigns though.

I must admit, I don't understand what makes Half-Life 2 so godlike and special.

-Deus Ex
-Metroid Prime 1

I also liked how Tribes Vengeance's campaign started, but it became very very disjointed after the second chapter (the first chapter with Quicksilver).

I'd have to say either Killzone or Cod4.
I really liked the cod4 story (especially the Chernobyl section!) i just wish it took me longer than 4 fuckin hours to finish. i mean im all for quality over quantity, but as someone who doesnt enjoy online multiplayer, i cant justify paying for a game ill be finished with in an afternoon
Really? I didn't finish it for at least a week (But then I sorta sucked when I first bought it). For me the Arcade mode is enough to keep me coming back since I to dislike multi-player.

Half-Life, FEAR and Bioshock all spring to mind -- and in that order in my opinion.

COD 4's campaign was pretty damn good. Though my vote would go for either of the Rainbow Six Vegas games
Wait, seriously?
I mean, I love Vegas 2, but I still don't know what the story is and I must have finished it at least five times. For me it's just one of the greatest tactical shooters, and co-op titles, ever. But most of the story is told through little screens in the corner, and I'm usually busy shooting people.
Although Raven Shield was even more tactical. Persistent health, and you build your squads at the start. If someone dies, you have people to replace them, but you don't get that person back. Was mean...
OT: Anyway, I'd have to say... Half Life 2.
Yes I love the game. No I'm not a fanboy.
Nominees were Bioshock, COD4, Deus Ex and Crysis (what? It wasn't great, but it was cool).
I haven't finished MW2, so I can't really say much about that one.
Really? It's about PMC's hired by a pissed off soldier, and he decides to attack Vegas becuase uh well...So I don't remember, it's been like a year since I played. Guess that I just like going to Vegas and kicking ass.

So my vote will go instead to (drumroll): Soldier of Fortune: Payback ! Yeah, happy go fun team

I'm surprised that this thread hasn't descended into a Halo vs Half Life 2 flamewar.

i would have to go for bioshock...or maybe halo 1

actually there is not a single fps that has a truly great story, but yeah plenty of fun campaigns to mess around with
