Mine recently is Left4Dead 2. My first few times playing, I did get tired of just blasting zombies over and over and that's the impression I thought this game was about.

Which it is, but it has a unique quality about it that I have slowly come to appreciate. Eventually the more I played online with others, the more I appreciated my time working together with others- protecting a comrade, healing, picking each other up in near death crises, etc. The funny remarks and the Valve-style humor helps too.

And now I'm really starting to appreciate the impact other zombies like Witch and Tank have affected how I play the game. That and the level design too. Good job Valve.

On a side note, I don't know if I'll get back to today's RPG's. I am tired of those boring fetch quests.

The first time I played Oblivion it didn't bore me, but I felt paralyzed by the size of it.

The complete lack of direction blew my mind, I was used to more linear dungeon crawler RPG's. I literally just wandered into a close by dungeon and tried to sneak around (my sneak was like 15, it seemed so high!) I died a lot, I got lost a lot, I had no idea what the conversation game was about... frustration!

Still, soldiered on, had to start over after creating a completely useless character (had no grasp on the leveling system then) and now I have a bona fide obsession with Bethesda uber alles.

Mass Effect 1 a thousand times. I played the first mission, went away for a few weeks, came back and fell in love.

Fallout 3.

I tried starting it twice and just couldn't get into it, then I started again a few weeks ago and sank 60 hours into it easily, without once getting bored.

Exactly the same for me here.

I dunno, I started playign Warcraft 3 today and it's...interesting...I'm certainly enjoying it more than I enjoyed Starcraft 1 because of the newer engine (playing anything on here lower than 1024x768 is a pain with Win7).

Maple Story. My cousin showed it to me 6 years ago, didn't think much. Started playing it when I got to university, and got hooked.

Rogue Galaxy for the ps2.
It's one of those games that takes a while to unwind and for the first third of the game I wasn't having that much fun but later on when I got full control of where to go and what to do is where it got really fun.

Daggerfall, because its scope is positively terrifying.

"What? I'm supposed to go to Daggerfall right away? That two hour episode there was the TUTORIAL DUNGEON?! (Shut up, I got lost.) But - isn't Daggerfall supposed to be the target at the end of the - HOLD ON. SIX DAY JOURNEY?! I'm confused... What?! I just got the first story mission NOW? So all those quests I was doing for the Daggerfall Castle were freaking SIDEQUESTS?! Hang it all... I CAN GO TO ANY KINGDOM ON THE MAP?!!?!?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH-"

True story. The map size is apparently twice the size of Great Britain.

Metroid Prime.

The fact that I'm currently near the end of my second playthrough should hint how that eventually turned out.

modern warfare the first time..idk just didn't care for it, then loved it for a few weeks straight.

probably oblivion also..i got out of the sewers and ran around for like an hour not knowing wtf was going on...then i looked online and realize my character was shit. so restarted, beasted it for a good hour, got a good start, and my character is going not too shabby. i haven't been on in a while but im enjoying it a billion times more than morrowind or fallout 3 so i will get on it over winter break.

SSX3.

*starts playing*

"What is this? You have to actually snowboard around the mountain to your starting positions for the race? Wha? Agh. My stats are so low. I just have to go through all these events again and again in order to actually be remotely competitive..."

*unlocks all of the first peak*

"Huh? Free run? Why would you want to free run down the whole pea--? Ohhh. Wow. This is...this is amazing."

*several hours later*

"I am one with Big Mountain. I and the snowboard are one."

I hope this wins me over soon. The effin' Benezia fight turned me off so much, I came back and did the fist half today, it's just so damned hard!

Minecraft for me. I thought it was dull and boring. Just to dick around and see if I could break the game world I decided to start digging straight down into the ground and see if I hit bottom.

I emerged five hours later.

I didn't know where.

I didn't care.

I was free!!!

Digging a straight hole through is a really bad idea. Pretty early on I dug through the ceiling of a massive cave system and had no way back to surface. So I started wandering through, occasionally stopping to collect some stone and coal. Then the creepers came. Without any way to make a light source I soon began a panicked and fevered run through the seemingly endless series of caverns. Stopping only when the persistent groaning and skittering disappeared. I finally emerged out from a small cave at the base of a waterfall into the daylight.

I immediately ran up to a sheep and hugged it (and by that I mean beat it with my bare hands to get the wool so I could make a Wool Fort to protect myself from the horde.)

My god, that game scared me at first. I was like "Yay big map. Waaaaaiiiiit, where am I supposed to go......? Anywhere? Oh to that place. [57 hours later] Yay, finally found all the quests in the world....wait...this was only 8 towns?! Damn, I thought this was going to be like Oblivion."

OT: Persona 3 Portable. Mainly just the start, here is a quick run down of the start: Get off train, go to dorm, meet obvious love interest, go to sleep, wake up, go to school, talk to annoying kid, go back to dorm, go back to sleep, wake up, go to school, have awkward conversation about obvious love interest, go back to dorm, sleep, school, awkward conversation, get attacked during the night, SUPER EPIC BATTLE SCENE, then back to sleep, school, dorm, sleep, school, dorm.

TL;DR: The first fucking hour is literally school and sleep.
