This far and no mention of Persona 3?

A lot of people complained about the ending being too ambiguous, which is odd because it's pitch-perfect. They released an expansion to resolve some plot threads, but fuck that. The Answer wasn't nearly as beautiful as this:

After defeating the boss, you come back only to get weaker over the course of the next few days. Finally, on the day when your friends were supposed to meet on the school roof, you lay on Aigis's lap while she talks about how much she has enjoyed her time with you. It's implied over the course of the conversation that she knows what's going to happen to you, so my own interpretation of what she says is that it's basically a goodbye.

Your friends approach, it fades out and this song plays:

There's also the first Digital Devil Saga. Cruel, cruel cliffhanger, but very exciting. It combines a lot of elements that I love to see:
The tower explodes and all that, not particularly remarkable aside from the fucking amazing music.

Then there's the post-credits sequence. Holy shit. Keep in mind that you've just spent something like 30-40 hours walking through a post-apocalyptic wasteland where it always rains. Most importantly, it had very little in common with the world we live in.

First it shows the protagonist walking through what appears to be a desert, then it cuts and shows that he's actually walking through a ruined modern-day city with ash-frozen corpses all over the place. The camera pans up and the sun is completely black.

YES.

The ending to Deadspace 2. It was actually a very happy ending for a horror game. It was very funny but would only make sense if you played the first game.

At the end i was just like oh crap, oh crap "What?" oh thank god. LOL XD

The original ending for the first portal.(Not that I didn't love portal 2, but it was a perfect ending before the edit) Or maybe the endlessly overly happy Kingdom Hearts 2 ending

The three that have really stuck with me recently (and by recently, I mean the past five years) are Bioshock, Assassin's Creed 2, and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. I usually have my laptop open so I can chat with friends while I'm playing, but on Bioshock, I shut it down and gave the game my undivided attention from the big twist onward.

Assassin's Creed 2, I shut my laptop down as soon as I realized where the last level was. Then the whole scene in the vault just...worked for me. I didn't really get it at first, but it worked for me.

Then Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, the whole ending sequence with Desmond felt really cool, up until the very, very end when...well, if you've played it, you know. If you haven't, you should.

New Vegas also had a really good ending, or should I say had a really good epilogue. More games need epilogues like that.

I quite liked DA 2's ending, set up for a non-limited sequel. Seriously how epic would that be, trying to deal with a slowly crumbling world, dealing with Darkspawn, rogue mages and templars. Wait. Just realized, that would be DA 2, but with more locations. Damn.

I certainly didn't like the sequel-baiting, but I did think the press X to win cutscene against (spoiler antagonist) was pretty awesome, especially with the knife in your chest.

I just finished Iji, and loved the last boss fight and ending. There's also pretty much all of the Phoenix Wright games...Aquaria, Braid, and Elite Beat Agents.

I haven't seen the endings of a lot of games mentioned here...likely because I don't own any consoles.

I really liked Just Cause 2's ending, because it was just so awesome. More developers need to just put in whatever they think would be cool rather than writing a serious plot!

Fucking loved the endings for Portal 2, Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2. The first had me smiling the whole way through; the second had me on the verge of tears. And the last... well, that's just brimming with awesome.

Unless you played the game wrong. Then you get punished for it by, uhm, not surviving the ending.

Final Fantasy 9. Seriously. A fantastic ending to a fantastic game. I also loved the song that was played during the credits.

SotC. The ending was really awesome, partly because of the interactivity. It made me cry, too.
I also loved that ending. Considering how bittersweet it was. The music at the end though is pretty much what sealed the deal for me.

Final fantasy 10, Dissidia/ dissidia duodecim: Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core (see a pattern?)

Beautiful ending to a beautiful game. Yuna dances and sends the aeons. Tidus fades and hugs Yuna one last time before taking a running dive off the airship, past Auron and Braska to high-five Jecht. That was bloody beautiful, man!

Cosmos... now I know what you left behind. Hear ends the war of the gods, destiny's hand cannot be stayed. Begone, mortals.

[trasported to a field of flowers]

the battle has come to an end...

Tidus : Gotta go, huh? Don't worry. The crystal knows the way.Besides... I'll always be right here.

Zidane: We're not vanishing, we're returning. To where we're supposed to be.

Squall: Perhaps, we can can go on a mission together again?

Cloud: Not interested.

Terra: I think I learned how to keep going. thank you and take care

Bartz: When you're having the most fun, that's when time flies.

Cecil: It's mine to pass on. This strength I've gained from everyone.

Onion Knight: ...Everyone! Thank you!

Firion: This isn't the end. Another dream is waiting to begin.

Warrior of Light: May the light forever shine upon us.

Beautiful.

Duodecim:

The manikin army has risen and the heroes fight to close the dorrway to the rift, falling as they do so. Cut to the manikin horde advancing upon the sanctuary. Warrior of Light fights them off and is almost overcome when cosmos steps forward to protect him, sacrificing much of her power to do so. Marrior of Light's pained cry of "COSMOS!" really stunned me. Then Shinryu appears to revive everyone and start the battle anew, and Lightning smiles at Warrior of Light.

Damn it, Zack! Why did you have to die?! It's so not fair!

The whole scene was heart-wrenching but beautiful. Cloud's lines consisting of parroting Zack was a beautiful way to show Cloud breaking and essentially becoming Zack. Zack's last words: "Hey, would say I became a hero?" nearly made me lose it.

And CC... Good damn, that was good. If you've played to the nooks and crannies, you already know the ultimate fate of Mr. Fair (previously only "Zack"), so you know this will be a downer of sorts going in. But Zack is so likable, and seeing things nerf around him really makes you feel for the "if only..." factor. If only things were going right, when you know that, ultimately, they'll go wrong. And the clincher, above anything else, was the technical final battle.
The music ("The Price of Freedom") alone will get you choked up, but the game's most nefarious gameplay mechanic, the semi-random Digital Mind Wave, is actually put to use as a story-telling mechanic. And it was GREAT. It's like you're playing that moment, like you're actively IN that moment,
and it's an ending that will stick in you.
Damn straight.
I hadn't played FF7 so I didn't know what was going to happen. At first when the DMW started failing, I just thought "what the fuck's it doing?" then as Zack got weaker and more DMW things started freezing, it dawned on me, "No..." I thought. "No, no no no. Don't you dare die on me!"

I sat stunned in silence for about ten minutes after that. It hit me so hard.
