Damn it, Zack! Why did you have to die?! It's so not fair!

The whole scene was heart-wrenching but beautiful. Cloud's lines consisting of parroting Zack was a beautiful way to show Cloud breaking and essentially becoming Zack. Zack's last words: "Hey, would say I became a hero?" nearly made me lose it.

1) Now I know a new trick to the spoiler tag.

2) Completely forgot about that. My mind kinda blanks out before and after the event you quoted me for. But yeah, great way to show it. If nothing else, the ending of this game is the greatest part of the entire COMPILATION (assuming we don't include FFVII itself, but even then, I doubt many moments could match this; yes, even that one).

I loved the epilogues of Fallout: New Vegas.

They gave great closure and explained what happened to pretty much every faction and major character you encounter in the game.

And who doesn't love Ron Perlman's voice?

Okay, going through my "Beaten" games list [http://backloggery.com/games.php?user=TJF588&status=2], and only picking out games where it's the ending in particular that got me (counter example: depict1 is more "on the whole", though I don't discount the ending to be capable of effect on its own):

* Achievement Unlocked 2 - For a flat-looking little game, that last part of the game (the last DLC, if you will) was over-the-top more than the preceding bits would warrant.

* Robot Wants Ice Cream - Though this is only after playing through the previous games (in order, Kitty, Puppy, Fishy), since it's that final challenge that really tops things off.

* Golden Sun: The Lost Age - My favorite music is probably "Venus Lighthouse", the last dungeon of the previous game (which had a moment for two of the characters that I'm particularly fond of), but this was one of those "bringing it full-circle" deals, and warranted a full-on, wide-screen illustration during it. ...Which is probably what I remember best, visuals-wise.

* KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days - This is technically the penultimate part of it, but another choker.
After going through the paces, you end up where the fight began, right outside a special place, fighting against someone special to you. The music going on (a modification (if it even was) of that someone's theme) is almost like tears in musical form, but hearing that voice cry out at you, too...it's painful that it's come to this. Then, after that mess is shattered, you're staggering, memories fleeting, as you try desperately to cling to this one last thing as it slips away in your arms. That desperate, awkward question really brings it out (which could have been the opposite, given how stupid/childish the question was), and, again, that music is playing.
After that, it's the gamut we've gleaned from other KH titles (namely KHII), of Roxas making his last break for the bad guys...and getting pwnt.

* The Strange and Somewhat Sinister Tale of the House at Desert Bridge - Again, namely the music.

* [The] Flying Hamster - What a twist.
What a dick.

...and I guess that's it, for now, anyway. Really wanted to get Days in there, since that was great.

It's a shame SQEX has relegated these impressive moments to side games that my friend refuses to play because of system (PSP) or shortcomings (Days's closed-off missions setup).

EDIT: Agh!, forgot the "Completed [http://backloggery.com/games.php?user=TJF588&status=3]" ones.

* The Company of Myself - Again, more of teh musicks, but this one's real punch comes in a bit after the "The End" comes in.

* Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku - Ariel Gross gets all the props here, since I still get her Namek(?) music stuck in my head now and then. The ending's music is beautiful, and I've set my GBA at my headboard at night before, just letting it repeat 'til I've had my fill. Flashy FMV from the show don't hurt much, either.

* KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES: Reverse/Rebirth - That ending's kinda cool, sure, though it does muddle the eventual name taken (then again, this game was from before "Got it memorized?"), but that final battle still rings out in my ears and out my mouth: Sub-MIT! (with a very slight echo effect)

* WarioWare: Twisted! - "Ending", here, being the (assumed) final unlock. Very meta.

* CHRONO TRIGGER - The final battles and the credit scroll. Awesome music, both times. Gets ya pumped, then chills you out. Almost like you're (or it's making you) concentrate every moment up to that point, ready to fight for it, then later gently unraveling it all throughout you. Maybe like a slo-mo, non-violent explosion of experience?

* Eversion - Any of the endings. Kinda twisted.

...and I wanna make some sort of shout-out to FFX-2. The "Good Ending" is sweet, true, but it's
the aftermath of the weapon activating that I liked more. If you fail, you actually get a result (similar to CT); more games need a quick, hard "failure" scenario during big battles, so that you're given just that much more incentive to keep it from occurring (or so you can marvel at the villain, if that's the way you side (don't worry; villain songs are my faves in Disney movies)).
If you win,
the fight gets personal as you deal with this maddened "individual" and see him break down after the matter, going off to a final rest. The music's pretty cool, too, especially right when the weapon was powered on, especially if you saw the great, story-relevant, and COMPLETELY OPTIONAL AND MISSABLE (WTF, Square?) Crimson Squad scenario.
The "Perfect Ending" is very appropriate, again pulling a full-circle motion.

Either Starcraft 2, I just want the expansion NOW!, or Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge, as the Soviets. Yeah it's cheesy as hell but it still made me feel good to watch that bastard get eaten by a dinosaur.

I seem to always be the first to say this, but Drakengard has fantastic endings (minus the fifth, that was bullshit) and I don't think I've ever seen anyone disagree with me on that. Gameplay's a bit on the mediocre side, but the story to it is deliciously dark, and the endings are incredibly moving.

Ok, I've gotta try and keep this spoiler free, so here goes:

Fallout: New Vegas is keeping me entertained with it's multiple endings at the minute. Given that there are four different factions you can complete the main quest with, and that each of those faction missions has multiple ways of finishing them, and that your choices in each of your missions affects the endgame cutscene, the differing endgame cutscenes for New Vegas are massively varied. The replay value of that game is astronomical.

Dirge of Cerberus. Brilliant ending, although it got my hopes up for a sequel with the not-so-hidden 'hidden' ending.
Yes. Oh God yes...

I know the game itself wasn't all that great (though I forgave it a hell of a lot just for being based on Vincent), but the endings for it were fantastic. Big girls blouse that I am, I got all weepy when the Gothic God was stepping out into the sunlight - oh the symbolism - and then when I saw the hidden ending... Argh. I too was / am hoping for some sort of resolution to that little cliffhanger.

Mind you, Final Fantasy endings in general always seem to be able to bring on the waterworks.

KotOR I enjoyed as well, especially the evil ending! And Silent Hill 1 and 2 both gave me the complete and total creeps. Which was good.

One that blew my mind recently was Red Dead Redemption, one of the best endings I've experienced in a game, especially if you didn't expect it.
I like games like RDR, Borderlands, & Saints Row 2 that roll the credits then say "here's more stuff to do." I don't like it when R* tries to be serious and emotional... they're just not good at it.

Recently, Red Dead Redemption and Metro 2033. Although I loved Metro's ending more, it pretty much wrapped up the story in nice, emotional way and still left room for a sequel instead of sequel-baiting like most shooters do these days.
