Going with the "most fun", mine is actually the same for single AND multiplayer:

Portal 2

I really enjoyed the story throughout the single player and the puzzles were just as tricky as ever, yet made you feel pretty foolish once you actually figured them out.
I agree. I don't get why some people, like Yahtzee, argue the puzzles got simplified. I noticed no such simplification. I think he just got better since the first Portal 1 and they weren't as much of a challenge. If you listen to developer commentary you will notice how utterly bad the game testers were though. The puzzles were simplified from the get-go. They were challenging of course, but in terms of hints given and other similar help it stayed consistent between the two games. There was no simplification.

Single-Player: Saints Row the Third.

Multi-Player: Saints Row the Third.

Because the naysayers are all silly aren't silly enough.

Great... now I have to say something original cause we both seem to share the same minds and taste.

OT:
Singleplayer: Metal Gear Rising Revengeance/Bayonetta. You know what, everything Platinum makes is like a goddamn star child. Both games have adrenaline pumping, easy to get into, difficult to master gameplay that never ever gets old. (special mention to Persona 4 Golden because Persona 4 Golden)

Multiplayer: Dark Souls. I love how this game's pvp system teaches you to GIT GUD. Its all about practice, taking what you learned from other battles and executing it into always changing scenarios. Best of all skill is required, and that skill is obtained if you're willing to learn from your mistakes. Coming out on top of 3v1s in Dark Souls is far more satisfying then any FPS i've ever played.

Single Player - Bioshock, Batman: Arkham Asylum or Alan Wake.

Multi - Bioshock 2. I really liked how it gives players the chance to earn a decent chunk of XP without necessarily having to be amazing and kill everybody, and also how anyone can become the Big Daddy if they're in the right place at the right time. Plus it gives half XP for assists. All multiplayer games should do that.
I'm aware I'm in the minority on this one though.
