Morrowind has a pretty solid fanbase. The game has been out for years now, and by rights, should have sunk away to nothing, played only by people who want a nostalgia kick.

But people are STILL improving it, adding to it, and fixing it with mods. That's dedication.

*Disclaimer* I love Morrowind, with or without mods! When I say it should have sunk away, I refer to it's age, nothing more.
OH SO U LIKE OBLIVION HURR DURR ENJOY UR DUMBED DOWN SHIT GAME WHILE I PLAY MORROWIND WHICH IS VASTLY SUPERIOR I WILL MENTION THIS EVERY 2 SECONDS FROM NOW ON! <------ thats my experience with Morrowind fans. Maybe im just unlucky, im sure they arent all like that.

OT: No idea actually, it seems to me as soon as someone becomes to much a fan of anything they get annoying.
I thought it was refering to best fanbase in terms of loyalty and support of the game. But if the OT was about best fanbase in terms of politeness and respect, then yeah, it sure ain't Morrowind. But I don't think there is one. All good things will have at least one bad fan that brings it down.
see that's where the OP should have been more specific, i also thought originally with the title of the thread he meant "which fanbase is the most undouchelike and awesome to join out there"

in which i was questioning why the hell you put morrowind in there, as the person who quoted you exactly portrayed every single bit of elitism i have received from pro-morrowindists

OT:

depending on if you mean loyal/nice?

i would roughly say minecraft..but not too heavy on it, sure it has it's douchebags but it seems to be way more helpful/loyal than most customer/fanbases around other games/series

if you meant huge/adding content/still alive fanbases?

probably team fortress or some other valve game that people leech off of consistently until they die

In my experience it has to be Demon's Souls. Never had a bad experience. Even after a Black Phantom killed me he sent me a message saying sorry and offered me a upgraded weapon as an apology.

I don't much care for any fanbase, actually. They tend to ruin the experience for everybody else, one way or another. Constant complaining, whining, entitled children who want everything for the price they paid for their copy of said game. Thing is, they're just one of the many people who bought the game. This example may have gone on a bit too long without noting a specific game or genre, so I'll end it on a strong note:

Marvel vs Capcom.

Waaah, I want this character to be playable!!
Waaah, why is this character playable but not this character?!?
Waaah, this character is broken!! Capcom sucks!!

Seriously? Just shut up and play the damn game. It's great and fine the way it is.

IMO, as far as FPS games go I'd go with Halo. Looking at Red vs Blue and the groups that I get lumped with, there are a lot of people (but not everyone) who just want to play to have a good time.

Then I try Call of Duty and everyone is fluent in profanity but me.

Of the forums that I've signed up on, the Neverwinter Nights community. Because I was writing scripts at the time, the questions I had were either answered or even had the code written for me as long as I was clear about what I wanted to do. No kick in the nads, no "go watch the tutorials and figure it out, ya nOOb."

I've found that a lot of games with a large emphasis on modding have nicer fanbases. It probably has something with group critiquing and helping each other leading to a fanbase more accepting of new players (because no one starts modding and then suddenly becomes an expert).

The Heretic/Hexen fanbase.

What's that you say? You can't hear them?

Exactly.

Quiet fanbase, content to add to the games and tinker with them while Doom gets a bit more fanfare. If the Doom fanbase is saintly, the Heretic/Hexen fanbase is even more so. Nice folks that love their game, nothing more, nothing less.

No such thing as a good fanbase.

They inevitable fall into one of the following:

a) Unwelcoming. "How dare you be new to this game, you fucking n00b!"
b) Fawning Fanboy. "Oh God this game is the best ever, it's so deep and symbolic and I cry every time whatshername dies."
c) Elitist. "The game I like is better than the game you like and I am a better person because I like it."

And that's not even counting the good old garden-variety arseholes.

Who knows, maybe Farmville fans are really nice...

In contrast to the sporadic and irritible FF7 fanbase and the cold elitist FF8 fanbase, the FF9 fanbase is made of some really chill people. Maybe im just saying it because im a huge FF9 fanboy..
As a FF fan in general I find all FF fans that are fans of a game are quite irritable and love to point out that their favourite FF is greater than 7. Yes we get it not everyone likes 7 even though it was quite popular it is time to move on.

OT: No game has a good or better fanbase than any others.
Eh, i find most FF(insert number) fans enjoy most of the series in varied degrees. Most people that have their favourite FF game are fans of the whole franchise. Its similar to cloud fans - being cloud fans doesn't suddenly stop them from liking the whole game.

And cmon dont tell me you don't have a favourite! thats just heartless.
It is possible to like one game and the whole series but every person seems to feel like they need to point out that their favourite FF is better than 7 and it gets irritating.

Yea. I?ve had very few problems with the Borderlands fanbase. I?ve played with people I hardly know and they?ve handed over all sorts of wonderful rare guns & shields as well as items that had to have been modded. Also it?s a co-op game which kind of forces you to work together.
I?m also impressed by the amount of work Fallout 3 fans put into their mods. Some really cool stuff out there; next I plan on getting the Vault 77 Hand to Hand-puppet to clear out Paradise.

Yeah, I guess I wasn't very specific, and that's mainly because it could be anything. If you like it because of devotion to the game or politeness, anything in their favor that really stands out will do. Sorry about being kind of vague.

I'm seconding Minecraft (Griefers do not count as part of the fan base). Even though it's still in Beta people have done so many amazing things with it. A lot of creative and and imaginative people have been drawn to it vice the other side of the spectrum for a lot of the more mainstream 'destructive' instead of 'creative' games.
