The Lord of the Rings Online

Haven't met a single dick in these few months that I have been playing. The community is very friendly and helpful.
I haven't played LotR online for more than a few sessions, but I can attest that the community looked incredibly nice and helpful.

Other than that I don't know what other game has the best fanbase, but I know which has the absolute worst: DotA. The community is so rude, so unwelcoming and so filled with assholes it's not even funny.

Minecraft

maybe a bit unfair because the game makes it so easy to make amazing things with it (because that's kind of the whole point), but they deserve some kudos nonetheless. And while I don't spend much time on the MC forums, they do seem friendlier, more fun, less whiny and all around helpful than, say, Escapees (sorry) or SPUFers.

It's why I don't post there, I can't be any of those things :p
The posters on the MC forums are usually very friendly, but when I'm on twitter and Notch says something, almost every reply is "OMG NOTCH U SHUD INCLUDE MAI AWSM IDEA OF ATTACHING HELICOPTERS TO SHEEP" and I feel sorry for him at times.

Timesplitters. The ones who love it really love it, but I've never heard anyone say CoD or Battlefield suck because Timesplitters is better.

When I think fanbase, I think "If I'm new at their game, how will I be treated?"

There are plenty of terrible ones.

League of Legends
Heroes of Norarth
Defense of the Ancients
Call of Duty
Halo
World of Warcraft

But the best ones for me are either Borderlands or Diablo II. While you get the occasional troll, like in any game, most of the players are either helpful, and willing to give you gear they don't need, or at the least have the common decency not to attack you and teabag your corpse for giggles.
Us halo fan's aren't anywhere near as bad as what we are made out to be.

The stereotype of whining prepubescents is entirely untrue. After COD came into the picture, they disspeared.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has a pretty solid and nice community going, mostly because it's not that mainstream yet.

In my experience i would have to say Team Fortress 2 i've never had any problems with anyone while playing TF2. They are also very polite, but like any game theres always those select douchebags.

Dwarf Fortress, absolutely no contest.

It's a free game and not just free-to-play nonsense, but completely FREE! The only reason the developer has a place to live and enough to eat is because people donate to him for no reason other than they like the game.
It is also the most helpful community I've ever seen with a very active help forum (which is needed since it's a fairly complex game) and I've never seen anyone insult someone else's playing style.
It's also a fairly silly fanbase with crazy mods and hilarious anecdotes abounds.
Did I mention it's free and most people donate anyway?

Battlefield, from what I've seen.
I'm afraid I would have to disagree with you there, the Call of Duty and Battlefield fan bases are always at each others throats :p

For me, every time I play an online game of Left 4 Dead, everyone seems to be co-operative, probably because the game encourages teamwork. Generally everyone I meet seems to want to play the game, not annoy other people (except for when you get to the safe room, where the first person in there nearly always tries to keep everyone else out by repeatedly opening and closing the door).

Morrowind has a pretty solid fanbase. The game has been out for years now, and by rights, should have sunk away to nothing, played only by people who want a nostalgia kick.

But people are STILL improving it, adding to it, and fixing it with mods. That's dedication.

*Disclaimer* I love Morrowind, with or without mods! When I say it should have sunk away, I refer to it's age, nothing more.
OH SO U LIKE OBLIVION HURR DURR ENJOY UR DUMBED DOWN SHIT GAME WHILE I PLAY MORROWIND WHICH IS VASTLY SUPERIOR I WILL MENTION THIS EVERY 2 SECONDS FROM NOW ON! <------ thats my experience with Morrowind fans. Maybe im just unlucky, im sure they arent all like that.

OT: No idea actually, it seems to me as soon as someone becomes to much a fan of anything they get annoying.
I thought it was refering to best fanbase in terms of loyalty and support of the game. But if the OT was about best fanbase in terms of politeness and respect, then yeah, it sure ain't Morrowind. But I don't think there is one. All good things will have at least one bad fan that brings it down.
see that's where the OP should have been more specific, i also thought originally with the title of the thread he meant "which fanbase is the most undouchelike and awesome to join out there"

in which i was questioning why the hell you put morrowind in there, as the person who quoted you exactly portrayed every single bit of elitism i have received from pro-morrowindists

OT:

depending on if you mean loyal/nice?

i would roughly say minecraft..but not too heavy on it, sure it has it's douchebags but it seems to be way more helpful/loyal than most customer/fanbases around other games/series

if you meant huge/adding content/still alive fanbases?

probably team fortress or some other valve game that people leech off of consistently until they die
Yeah, I guess I wasn't very specific, and that's mainly because it could be anything. If you like it because of devotion to the game or politeness, anything in their favor that really stands out will do. Sorry about being kind of vague.
Captcha was "Eliza uricep".
Yeah, Eliza, you're such a cep.
oh no problem, i just would prefer people don't get up in arms in flame wars because of some misinterpretations of the OP statement, which is no big deal once again.

lol nice captcha

The Elder Scrolls, Warcraft, Minecraft and Little Big Planet. Any fanbase that adds to the game is a damned good one according to me.

The question should be:
Which game has the fewest d***s in its fanbase?

Really can't think of any. The problem is the same like with people in, lets say afghanistan. They aren't all terrorists. But the few that there are distort your view of the people down there.
As for games, I'd say that you don't see the "good" fan's, as they don't post on forums and rage, because they just like their game.
However, if you search really good fanbases, you'd probably should look into the modding-scene. The fanbases arround there are (usually) connected to the developers more closely.
I gotta use that analogy somewhere.

No such thing as a good fanbase.

They inevitable fall into one of the following:

a) Unwelcoming. "How dare you be new to this game, you fucking n00b!"
b) Fawning Fanboy. "Oh God this game is the best ever, it's so deep and symbolic and I cry every time whatshername dies."
c) Elitist. "The game I like is better than the game you like and I am a better person because I like it."

And that's not even counting the good old garden-variety arseholes.

Who knows, maybe Farmville fans are really nice...
I'll bring up the Guilty Gear/BlaBlue fanbase to challenge that. I was a newb once, and was actually treated like a human being. That is rare in fighting game communities that I've seen. I hardly ever see fans complaining about the developer and most are content to just play the game and help out when questions are asked.

Seconded. In my short time with the game, I found the general player base to be so surprisingly helpful and friendly I was blown away.

Diablo II:

I was under the impression that it was the opposite so I was trying to make up for it, and I'm *always* a sucker for games titled "Help, I'm new" when I'm surfing games. If I have some spare starter gear and their character isn't lamely named, I'll usually help out. Newbs like that prefer walking, and so do I.

Starcraft 2 seems like a really nice one, people in Sweden gave a pro player a hero's welcome after coming home from Korea.

After day[9]s computer crashed a few times during a daily, they were all saying it's no problem etc.

Of course there are always going to be trolls but this one doesn't seem to have many.

I have firsthand experience of people claiming to be Guilty Gear and/or Blazblue fans coming into videos and streams of other fighting games and doing a round or more of "This game sucks, you all should be playing GGX/Blazblue instead, anyone who doesn't agree sucks" or "This player sucks, our GGX/Blazblue players are better". Not saying you're wrong, but it's very hard for any single fanbase to not have some jerks. On the bright side though, I haven't seen said jerks for quite a while, so maybe they grew up.
