I think FF X had the best music. Why?

Because of these.

My case has been rested.

Total Annihilation.
It had this massive band behind the songs... The songs were pretty epic. ^_^

You'd best be kidding.

The Halo series has the best soundtracks hands down.
Deluded? Probably.
Silent Hill 2 and 3.
DODODODODODODOOOO DOOO DO DODODO. That was Theme of Laura.
DODO DODO DODO DODO DODO DODO DODO DODO. That was You're Not Here.

Wet. Totally got The Arkhams album after that.

Valve games are always good value.

Ha! I was going to make a thread like this.

Incidentally, I (in my very limited experience and equally humble opinion) feel that Super Mario Galaxy has the best music. But, like I said, I haven't actually played very many games. Much less evaluated their music.

I don't want to bash Halo-likers here, but I'm a bit surprised by the choice; as good as the music often is in the game, it never struck me as fitting. You'd have calm, peaceful music playing as you're GUNNING THE SHIT OUT OF AN ARMY OF FLOOD YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Magi-Nation for the GameBoy Color.

I played that game over and over again for years, just because the final boss and credits had some of the best midi music I have ever heard. It was fantastic, and if you try to tell me otherwise, I will FIGHT YOU.

Yeah...Halo's elegant classical score always struck me as self-important and pretentious and very out of place. The developers seemed to think that, because it was popular, that somehow made Halo artsy and highbrow. And when you get right down to it, Halo is anything but artsy and highbrow.

Let's see... three have been mentioned before, Red Alert (not just RA1, also 2), Total Annihilation and Morrowind.
Then there's M&M6 (probably my favourite game soundtrack, f.x. this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GFe1mZv_aQ), WC 2, Deus Ex's title theme, LotRO, Majesty, the Fantasy Kingdom Sim, Diablo 1 and 2, and then Heroes of Might and Magic 1, 2 and 3.

There's nothing more I can remember, but loads more games have awesome soundtracks.

Manic Miner also gets a mention, but not for how good the soundtrack was but for how good it is at driving you insane, as it's only about 10 seconds looped (old ZX spectrum game, only played it on an emulator, though).

Computer game music, nom nom nom.

Edit: Bah, shame on me. Forgot Baldur's Gate I, Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1 and Fallout 2.
