As someone else said, the first 15 min of Bioshock were REALLY good, so I was scared shitless then. Heavy Rain also did it to me, and I know it's over used, but it's okay because that's the point of the game. I found myself freaking out and
shooting Nathanial when he went to pull out his cross because I saw the QTE to fire and freaked out
Fallout 3 was another game that I got into. Just so fantastic.
Oblivion. It was my first RPG and it was just so huge. Then was effect and Mass Effect 2. And probably Fallout 3 a little. EVERYTHING EVERYONE HAS SAID.
Final Fantasy X, I loved every minute of the game. I initially started playing expecting an average game but my mind was blown after watching the initial cutscene and I was just sucked into the game world.
Half-life. Oblivion. Fallout 3. Killzoze 2. The list goes on. I do my best to immerse myself in games because it'll normally have me try my best not to get slaughter'd.
Vampire:The Masquerade Bloodlines and original World of Warcraft, before the expansions where everything turned into a
giant number crunch.
You need x defense to be immune to critical hits on bosses. You need y agility to have this much +crit. Stopped playing because of that and the rep grinding.
First person really helps in the immersion. But the surrounding environment is vital i.e. little details that everything is not as it seems (e.g. Portal). Or just some really vast expanse to show how (almost) alone you are (Shadow Of The Colossus).
I gotta say, Dead Space with 5.1 in the middle of the night really took me "there". I even looked behind me (as in irl me) when the masterfully mixed sound made me think that something was lurking behind me time after time.
Killzone 2, both Bioshocks, both F.E.A.R.'s (not counting the sucky expansions to the first game. Reborn is pretty cool, though) and playing as the xenomorph in AvP.
Dead space on Hard mode with headphones. I had gone through on regular difficulty before, but on my hard mode playthrough I had to stop after the second level because of a genuine fear of continuing.
I consider myself immersed as soon as I actually find myself caring about what I do in the game, and so far the only game that has truly done that is KotOR 2. Mass Effect 2 comes in close second but it felt somehow lacking that something KotOR had.
