Resident Evil 4.

...to elaborate, I'd reboot it so that it emulates the style of the original trailer (more supernatural horror, less James Bond vs. terrorists). Youtube the original trailer for reference, if curious.

Final Fantasy 12.

Curb the difficulty at certain points, touch up the HD, but otherwise, I found this game to be a story gem.

...and while on the topic, Final Fantasy 7.

The idea of the remake has been done to death, but the potential for new gameplay combined with the colorful style makes me curious.

Knights of the Old Republic.

...as single player experience. Not saying the MMO didn't have it's charms, but focusing on a single player campaign allows for more detailed environments, better character models, a more tight and centered story, and ultimately a more dynamic gameplay experience not bogged-down by MMO restrictions or technical hinderances.
I was stupid to forget that one, I loved both, now if they can not only Remake KoTOR 1 and 2, and add in the stuff that was cut in 2, I would pay a lot for that one. These are classics the newer generation should play....its just a pity that Lucas Arts is gone :(

Secret of Mana and Xenogears.

Same as I usually say, two games that had huge amounts of their content cut away to meet deadlines. Secret of Mana could also use a rebalancing of magic and tighter hit detection along with online multiplayer.

I'm going to have to be one of "those guys" and say Final Fantasy VII.

I wouldn't even demand a current-graphics remake; they could remake it with the same level of models used in Crisis Core and I'd be happy. They could even use the art-style that they used to render the characters in Kingdom Hearts and I'd be happy.

As for why? Well, if you look even a few years down the road from when FFVII was released and look at FFVIII and FFIX, you'll see how much improved certain areas were, especially in the character models department. Also, while FFVII's gameplay was simplified to its detriment (just my opinion, don't flame me), FFVIII wasn't afraid to make character customization more complex and IX wasn't afraid to make the characters more distinct.

VII has great music and interesting story, but it could really benefit from updated character graphics, translation fixes, and other such refinements that came to the series down the road.

Can I be obvious and just say I want a Majora's Mask remake for the 3DS or the Wii-U? Please Nintendo? That game is amazing and would benefit amazingly from updated graphics.

I'd buy it immediately... I shouldn't be spending money even and I'd still buy it.

Less obvious answer is Extreme G.

It's a sci-fi motorcycle racing game for the N64 with amazing EBM music, explosions, and courses that really make you feel like you're racing at supersonic speeds.

I know it had sequels (weren't as good), and I know Acclaim is out of business now, but somebody make that shit happen!

Shadow of Destiny looked insanely cool (even though it's cutscene driven), but I can't find a copy, and the screenshots are really showing their age now.

It's a puzzle/adventure game about avoiding your own assassination. Yep.

, I love the game, its a good world, but while I can ignore the graphics, I can not ignore the mechanics, which is me swinhing and hoping I hit the enemy. If Morrowind had the oblivion or Skyrim Engine, perhaps with more quests, maybe more weapons and update the graphics, it would be a great revival of one of the greater Western RPG's
I do wonder why they couldnt release Morrowind The Modded Edition. :) Where all the best mods are added on the disk. Maybe could update their earlier games as well.

Turrican 2 - love that game, would like a remake of that.
Syndicate - either another top down version or one set in a sand box city like Mercenaries.
Dizzy - gotta love that egg.....damn im on a nostalgia run now.

The original Phantasy Star games and Xenogears.

The first should have been delivered to the west a long time ago.

My exact answer. After Ocarina 3D turned out so well, I expected Majora's Mask 3D to follow shortly. It might still come in the near future.

OT: Twilight Princess could use a bit of a remake, maybe for Nintendo's next console. Even though I can still easily tolerate the visuals, I will admit they haven't aged well. Considering the excellent detail in that game, having it in HD would be awesome. Just as long as they remake the Gamecube version using traditional button controls rather than the Wii version motion controls.

Even though it will happen in the future anyway, I can't wait to see the rest of the Pokemon games with 3D visuals. I like the original sprites in Black and White/Ruby and Sapphire/Platinum, but I want to see those revamped with an X and Y engine. It will happen, Nintendo and Gamereak like money a lot, and those will sell very well.

It'd be nice to see some games that tried at realistic graphics way before it was really viable to get a remake. I've even found the large polygons that is FFVII hard to replay in this day and age.

Knights of the Old Republic has already been mentioned so I'll go with Black & White 2.

With bigger maps, more creatures, structures, miracles it would be truly glorious and of course improve graphics though the absolute best thing they could do to update the game would be to add multiplayer and a map maker for online and offline play.

Who owns the rights to that franchise now anyway?

Crimson Skies hasn't been mentioned so I will go for that. Only because it had a really good idea in the Plane Customisation that was recently seen in F-Zero GX and that wasn't even used as part of it's Main Story

Another thing I'd add, Skies of Arkadia, if you played this game from the Dreamcast, you'd love it, they did make a remake for the Gamecube but an HD remake, with full voice acting would be awesome, maybe more quests and more monsters to face. And maybe more weapons to play around with in the ships and sky battles (yes you get to fly a ship in the sky and fight other pirates)

Huh, within just a few replies, two of my picks already came up, so let me throw my meaningless voice behind those.

1) Alpha Centauri - My favorite and I think easily the most interesting premise of all the Civ games. I still play it obsessively.

2) Homeworld: Cataclysm - All of the homeowrld games were amazing, but cataclysm, I think, had the most compelling story of the three. Commanding a mining ship with very little offensive power and facing a galactic threat gave such a feeling of hopelessness and eventual triumph. The mission where you watch as your hard-earned fleet gets ripped to shreds, your crews willingly sacrificing themselves as you try and try to convince the Bentuzi not to give up on the galaxy had some of the greatest emotional weight of any scene I've ever played in a game.

3) I'm going to be that guy among the 'that guys' and say FFVI. I know VII is the one everyone goes to and all, and I understand why VII is so beloved, but if there exists a FF that grabs your feelings and twists them up it's VI. I'm not down on VII, I just feel it's main plot is a little juvenile. Don't crucify me for this opinion please, but I find Cloud's story to be less compelling than Barret's and Cid's. When you can't even be more interesting than the side plots in your own game, I think something is amiss. I also blame cloud for starting the trend of "Angst turned up to 11" in several of the following games. This is one guy's opinion on a touchy subject, so no need to make a federal case out of it. All of that said I would be wonderfully happy with a FFVII update, as I do love the game despite my criticisms!

I would also have said Freelancer, but we're going to get our update of that in the form of Star Citizen. So I guess honorable mention goes to another possibly controversial pick in the form of The Adventure of Link. This is not because I think it's better than other Legend of Zelda games that could also use a remake, but because it would likely see the greatest improvement from it.

The game I would love to see remade most remains Final Fantasy 7(not terribly original I know). Though, as long as the current domestic studio of Square-Enix don't touch it. All their talent left long ago. The game could be developed by Eidos though which is owned by Squeenix anyway and I think more than capable of remaking FF7. Imagine a remake with similair pre-rendered backgrounds but redone to fit current gen capabilities. It would be amazing. A lot of FF7's charm was its quirkiness which can only remain if the basic structure(deformed characters and all) remain unchanged. So no Advent Children crap.

Instead of being those guys that says FF VII, I'm going to say instead VI, because it is the superior game. I would like it to be something along the lines of the FFIV remake they did for the DS

Well, I came here with the grand idea of talking all about how Morrowind is a great world ruined by a horrible combat system and how much I'd love to be able to explore it without hating every minute of combat, but the OP did it for me, so I guess I'll go with my backup answer in the form of the original Deus Ex. It was my favourite game of all time until last year when I played The Walking Dead, and it could be even better if it had slightly better graphics (though I don't necessarily want current-gen graphics, since the size of that world would make that next to impossible to render) and AI that was at least slightly more complex than your average abacus.

Also, Final Fantasy VIII. No, I am not putting an extra I behind VII by accident, I do mean Final Fantasy VIII, the one with Squall. I still think the story in that was fantastic, but the actual RPG elements of it, as in leveling up your character and getting equipment was just ridiculously broken, giving you a pathetically easy game if you knew how to game the system (not ever killing monsters and just drawing mass amounts of magic from them before running away) and a ridiculously hard one if you played it the way RPGs are traditionally played.

Lucasarts only license it, they didn't contribuite anything on development except completly screwing over Obsidian with the release date and the patches of Kotor 2. I was really trilled when it finally died, now good developers can take up the star wars franchise.
But yeah, HD remake of Kotor 1 and 2 would be sweet, Kotor 3 "proper one, not the MMO" would also be pretty cool to have.

Yeah Morrowind I can ignore the graphics, but the combat, I'm just glad they improved the combat system over the years. As for FF8, its my favorite of the main series, but I agree, the leveling system sucks, I don't mind grinding and seeing myself getting stronger, but when it goes against you, making the opposing monsters even stronger while you do, you don't feel like you are doing anything. Graphics could use a nice update, I do like the opening Cutscene, that one still looks good even by today's standards

Tomb Raider (Anniversary doesn't count since it strayed way too far): The level design was fantastic, the atmosphere was haunting. While I don't think the controls were ever necessary bad, many people disagree with me - which is fine, but I wish that myth about the controls being grid based would die already. Only the level design and the back step were grid based, and if I hear "herp derp triangle boobs" one more fucking time ...

Doom 1 and 2: As long as it kept the original "surrealistic" level design and arcade gameplay, it could work. Like an expanded version of that "classic doom 3" mod.

Mega Man Legends: Just look at Zach and Wiki to see how good it's art design could look on modern systems. The game was already ahead of it's time so the only thing they really would need to do is update the controls. Obviously some legal issue is keeping it from being rereleased, so why not remake it?

Disaster Report: imagine this game with modern physics and larger environments?
