What game(s) have you completely given up on?

Every now and then you might start up a game only to be led by frustration that makes you quit the game completely. Could either be just too hard, no fun, or simply game mechanics that you just couldn't tolerate.

The game that comes to mind for me is Phantom Brave. I am a big fan of the Disgaea games and I really wanted to like this game. But, the limited number of turns to keep phantoms out became incredibly frustrating. I also found that the grid-less system would be a step up but in reality it just made it awkward to place characters where you wanted them.

So what game(s) have you given up on?

Only one in recent years: Rouge Warrior.

It wasn't hard at all, but the game uses a checkpoint system without manuel saves. I triggered checkpoint at roughly the same time as a grenade exploding in my face. Everytime I try to reload, I get blown up immediatly by the grenade. And the level select is broken so I can't restart the dammn level. I would have to start a new game from scratch if I would want to proceed and believe me when I say that this game isn't worth that.

Lots of games falls into that category, but some of the latest include Burnout Paradise and Knights of the Old Republic (dunno why really, just felt dull after Mass Effect. Maybe i should give it a another go some day)

Completely, totally, never ever ever going back to? Hm...

Morrowind. It's the only one I can think of. I just can't bear the endless tedious travelling and crappy combat, however good the rest of the game is.

Splinter Cell 3. Brilliant, brilliant game, but the moment the Koreans start using the armed drones, I gave up. When you can no longer hide (which is pretty much your greatest weapon) the game just isn't fun any more.

Its rare i'll stop due to difficulty, but i will if the game is awful, no fun or just not my think. to recent memory thats included:
Dark siders,
Dante Inferno,
Dragon Age 2

EDIT, also shadow of the colosus; looked untidy having the PS2 sandwiched in my set up, so put it away and will get SOTC HD release

Too many to mention over thirty years of gaming. Most recently

GTA 1 (PC) - control frustration
Stranglehold (Xbox) - character slapsticks like a loon, controls all over the place
Beijing Olympics 2008 (Xbox) - likely broken controller if continued
Far Cry 2 (PC and Xbox) - bloody jeeps running you over and machine gunning you again and again and again as well as respawning checkpoints
Fallout 3 (Xbox) - finished once. Seen enough. Bored now. Tried to start a new character, but really no motivation to do so.
Portal 2 (Xbox) - finished once. No need to replay.
Torchlight (PC) - finished once. No need to replay. Tried to start a new character, but really no motivation to do so.

Recently:

STALKER. Beautiful, atmospheric game, but just too damn hard for this non-shooter gamer.

KOTOR 2. I hated the combat system, and I got tired of waiting for the story to get interesting.

Dragon Age 2. Might not count, since I did complete it once. I went to do my usual thing with RPGs and start a second playthrough as a different class (and then a third, and so on), but it just wasn't any fun. I didn't like like it for many reasons on my first run through, but wanted to see where the story went (and I'd preordered it), plus I wanted to learn more about Thedas, so I slogged on to the end. On starting my second run, I realised just how little fun I was having, and I knew I'd already found out all I was likely to about the world and the story, so I just gave up on it and I'll probably never play it again.

Splinter Cell Conviction, could not care less about the story, and I don't know if it's a PC port issue but the fighting mechanics were really floaty the guy would just decide what to do on his own.

Turn based combat games, I just can't be bothered to sit there and wait till the game decides you got something to do again, I usually end up reading forums and forget there is a game on the other screen.

Morrowwind, and, ashamed as I am at this, Half life. I've tried about 4 times, each time it's failed. Also tried HL2, but the game stopped working at somepoint of the waterway chase at the beginning and cba to try again on PC. Feel free to stone me, I deserve it, but I can't do it. AC:B very nearly entered this category but I eventually bludgeoned through, so I could validly say it was a disgrace to AC2.

Oh, FF13 too. I'm half an hour or less from the last boss, and I gave up there. Apparently the endings really good, but I'm not giving it the satisfaction of giving me a good last impression. I quit when the game what it is, In my opinion, long and boring.

FFX might fall into this category, but it's a good game despite how I dislike JRPGs, it did the TBC tactically and interestingly, but
screw you Seymour and how I need holy water to defeat you, which is on the otherside of the mountain

Thank you, whenever I say that everyone jumps down my throat. The combat sucks ass to a degree that makes Oblivion look amazing, and that breaks the game in terms of it being fun for me

A have given up on something much bigger than just a game... or even a franchise... I've given up on a whole developer... Lionhead studios.

Fable seemed like a bright hope for the future of RPG's. Then... Fable 2 was like having a rusty longsword shoved so far up my ass that even Theresa had to block her eyes.

Then... the final round... god I wanted Fable 3 to be good... I really did, but it was the nail in the coffin.

Screw you Lionhead and screw you Peter Molyneux...

1) Brink. That game was so repetitive and boring, it's the first game I gave up on because I hated it.

2) Ninja Gaiden II. Although I don't feel I gave up. I'm at the last boss and other games came out that took my attention away. I plan on going back and finishing it.

STALKER. I got to around 2/3 of the game only to come across a bug that made the game crash at a crucial part of the map. I downloaded the patches and started over (the patches mess up your saves) but haven't felt like playing much any more.
Morrowind. Got pretty damn far into the game before I had to take a long break from it because of school. Recently I had some time again and started it up but I had forgotten most of the controls so I spent a some time figuring out most of them again. By the time I was done I had lost interest.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted. I'm pretty bad with racing games but despite that I really enjoyed NFS: Underground so I bought MW. I had fun with it at first but then I came across one race I just couldn't win. What really bothers me with MW is: 1. there are no difficulty levels and 2. the retarded catch up mechanic. One moment my opponent is 200 metres behind me and the next they're already past me. Good thing I only paid like 3$ for the game.
Black and White 2. No matter how much I messed around with the settings I still found the controls to be horribly annoying.

I gave up in Spore when it got all "Now you have to go and befriend other tribes, buddy.".. how about no?
Got fed up with Fallout:NV when I realised the game wanted me to go into New Vegas and any exploration was far too dangerous because of my level, but I'll get back to it.
Hitman, Splinter Cell and KOTOR all got about an hours play before I decided that "actually this is boring the shit out of me"
So many more..some games just have this massive, needless obstacle that kick the flow of the game in the nadgers and I decide to "come back to it later".
I want to give up on Tomb Raider IV but it's on my backloggery list and I will damn well finish it. Clunky-ass controls.
