PS3 - no game in particular (I wanted the old model before they were discontinued so got it when they were marked down)

WiiU - Bayonetta 2 and X (they better come out)
PS4 - probably get one for Guilty gear Xrd (if I have the cash)
Xbox One - nothing yet and have no plans to get one until serious changes are made. (and im not broke)

Game Boy: Pokemon Blue
PlayStation: Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle 22 (I may have messed up the title on this one...)
GameCube: Super. Smash. Bros.. MELEE!
Nintendo DS: New Super Mario Bros.
Xbox 360: Halo 3/Max Payne 3 (Max convinced me to buy a replacement one for my old broken 360)
Nintendo 3DS: While I was originally gonna buy one just for Smash 4, the release of A Link Between Worlds (and that amazingly cool triforce bundle)convinced me to get the system before the former game.

Xbox One - Titanfall, and Dead Rising 3
Xbox 360 - Numerous games that aren't on the PS3
Xbox - Fable: the Lost Chapters Mostly
PS3 - Many, Many games, but MGS 4 got me to buy one originally.
PS2 - Most of the games I never got around to playing (Cube fanboy at the time).
PS1 - Tomb Raider 3 sold me, but my original one got given to me as a Christmas Present, that was a great Christmas...
Dreamcast - Mostly the great hidden gems rather than the numerous ported games on other systems.
Saturn - Nights, and Panzer Dragoon...
Mega Drive + Mega CD - I honestly don't know, but I definitely got the Mega CD for the sheer novelty of it.
Wii-U - Pikmin 3, and Zombie U.
Gamecube - The multiple brilliant games on the system ,but most notably Smash Bros.
N64 - Those Pokémon games, as I was a huge Pokémon nut back when I first got a N64.
SNES - Super Mario All-stars baby!
Turbografx 16 - Not sure, but I was willing to buy it as some people put some turbo games in very high regard.
3DO - Not a specific game as such, but as it has no Console Copy Protection, it might as well be the whole library.
Jaguar - Tempest 2000!!! Many people slag off the Jag, but it's worth it for Tempest, and also AvsP, if I can get around to buying it.

NES: Played Duck Hunt on a display and got hooked on gaming right there. the First Final Fantasy helped a LOT too

XBOX: Had to go back to gaming. Didn't want to turn old and have "sitting on my porch, watching traffic" as my main hobby in the future and my wife's friend was selling his console so...

Xbox 360: Wanted this for Halo

X1: I'm freaking out about the video game creator "Project Spark". I mean, you can record yourself on the kinect and apply those moves to characters and the designing looks ridicously easy to make. I,m waiting for the Beta to go to the console before buying this one. I'll be spending lots of time with my 8yo to teach him "koding" and feed his imagination.
Can't wait to create tons of funny little games and whatnot.

-SNES: Mario (although Final Fantasy VI took the title as my favorite)
-N64: Legend of Zelda, Majora's Mask
-Gamecube: I forget... I'm going to say Windwaker though

-Playstation: Crash Bandicoot and Spyro
-PS2: Jak and Daxter (although this is my favorite generation and IMO all other game libraries pale in comparison)
-PS3: Uncharted
-PS4: (mostly likely whatever Naughtydog comes out with next...)

-Xbox360: Lost Odyssey

-All Nintendo Handheld generations:
Pokemon

-PSP:
Why did I buy this again?

-A better PC: Because I'm becoming disenfranchised and I need it for art stuff.

When it comes to the earliest consoles, I don't remember. The NES I wanted at launch just because I missed home gaming.
Phantasy Star 2 and Sonic got the Genesis on my wish list.
Then I only gamed on the pc (or not at all) for a while; I was in college and I live in nyc and there was a lot to do here back in those days.

I needed a ps2 when I saw Katamari Damacy, Burnout 3, and GTA; both Vice City & San Andreas. At that point I was just playing on the pc.
I remember wanting the ps3 when I saw that GTA4 (bit of a disappointment)& Burnout Paradise (big disappointment) were coming out but the other game I had my eye on, Warhawk, did not disappoint at all. My friends and I played that a lot. I eventually got all the dlc for it and the sequel. The other game that makes me happy I got the ps3 (though I didn't know about it when I bought the console) is Valkyria Chronicles.

WiiU - The Wonderful 101 and the promise of Bayonetta 2.

Anything else I think wasn't really for any one game.

PS2: The Final Fantasy games, including going back to play the ones I'd missed during the PS1 generation, and Kingdom Hearts II (I played the first one on a friend's PS2 and loved it.

GBA: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. After playing KH1, this was a big pull as a holdover until KH2 came out.

Nintendo DS: Brain Age. I thought it was a cool and novel idea; the electronic Sudoku really helped on long flights as well.

Wii: Metroid Prime 3. Metroid Prime is one of my favorite games of all time. The second one was...decent...but I was fully swept up in the hype for the Wii-exclusive, motion-controlled third. I saw the gameplay demos from E3 and thought, for a moment, that this came would revolutionize the FPS. I was young and foolish, but this was still a great game.

PS3: I held out until early 2009 to dive into the 7th-gen; by that time, there was no one game in particular, just a whole lot of games, mostly third-party, that I wanted to play. I originally bought a 360 because it was cheaper, but when it started crapping out I sold it and all my games and jumped ship over to PS3. I probably would have bought the PS3 initially anyway if it hadn't been so stupid-expensive.

Sega Genesis - Mortal Kombat
Gameboy - Pokemon Red
Nintendo 64 - Starfox 64
Playstation - Resident Evil 2 and Soul Reaver
Gameboy Advance SP - Fire Emblem
Playstation 2 - Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts
Xbox - Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
Xbox 360 - Oblivion
Playstation 3 - Metal Gear Solid 4
Nintendo DS - Fire Emblem
Playstation Vita - Persona 4 Golden

Waiting on Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV for PS4 and nothing has yet captured my attention
on the Xbox One, at least nothing that I'm not getting on PC already ex. Titanfall.

Game Boy-Same as OP, sorta just a distraction, but I'd say Pokemon Blue is what would have sold me on it.
PlayStation-The first Spider-Man game where the city gets covered in yellow poison or something....
GameCube-Super Smash Bros. Melee and Mario Kart Double Dash
GBA-Can't really remember for this one, but I played a lot of Pokemon Sapphire on it so maybe that.
Nintendo DS- Pictochat and Super Mario 64 DS
Wii-Brawl and DBZ: Boudakai Tenkaichi 2/3
Xbox 360-Halo 3 and Rock Band 2
Nintendo 3DS-While I was originally only planning to get one for Smash 4, A Link Between Worlds not only happened, it happened alongside the most beautiful gaming system ever, the golden Triforce-skinned 3DS.

Xbox 360-Gears of War. heh.
Playstation 3-inFamous
Playstation 4-inFamous Second Son and Assassin's Creed IV
My high end gaming laptop-The Witcher 2; Assassin of Kings
Playstation Vita-Originally it was Uncharted, then it became Persona 4.
Wii-Twilight Princess
Wii U-Well, I did want it because Atlus mentioned Trauma Center game was in talks, but it never came. Then it became Aliens Colonial Marines, then that fucked up, so I sold it.

I think Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Kazooie sold me on the N64, and FFX sold me on the PS2. For the GBA, it was Super Mario World. I loved all those games to bits. Nintendo gave me my oldest gaming memories.

I bought a second-hand Wii mostly to play Skyward Sword, but I haven't been overly impressed.

NES - I was kind of too young to really remember. I know I had SMB/Duck Hunt, Zelda 2, and Top Gun as the first games for it. I mainly remember playing Zelda 2.
SNES - Playing Link to the Past at my buddies more or less sold me on pressuring mom to get it.
N64 - I can't recall a specific game. Starfox was the main one I played early on. Perfect Dark probably won out for hours in the end.
Playstation 2 - The Gamecube offerings were simply dismal at the time, and I was still playing a large amount of PC titles then, so Unreal Tournament killed any possible interest Halo might've drummed up. I didn't have any specific "big title" I was aiming for though. The PS1 playing feature contributed a bit, as I could go back and get some of the PS Titles I'd missed, along with needing a DVD player anyways.
Playstation 3 - Rock Band, oddly enough. For that to not get incredibly boring, having a system that could do DLC was kind of a necessity. By this time I'd handled a decent amount of Xbox, and I hate their controller, not to mention 360's RRODing all over, as far as competition goes.

Well I was a kid when I got my Mega Drive and my Game Boy but I guess Sonic and Pokémon sold those two to me.

I got a Playstation as a kid too but I have no idea why.

Playstation 2, probably brand loyalty.

Game Boy Advance, probably brand loyalty.

Gamecube - meh I dunno what sold me on this to begin with. I think it was Smash Bros but I think I also played Mario Sunshine at a mates and loved it.

DS - Brand Loyalty/Golden Sun/Fire Emblem. There was a lot on the DS that I loved.

Wii - Zelda: Twilight Princess and Super Monkey Ball on launch sold me!

Xbox 360 - My friends I guess, it was cheap and they all had one.

Playstation 3 - Gee, Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear Solid 4, Heavy Rain and Little Big Planet all persuaded me to buy one.

PSP - Dissidia: Final Fantasy (got the Dissidia PSP too)

3DS - Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright (still waiting...) and the rumours of another The World Ends With You plus I loved the DS so much.

SNES - Super Mario World, for certain.

N64 - A mix of Pokémon Snap, Lylat Wars and Perfect Dark.

Dreamcast - I just wanted to own one.

Wii U - Zelda: Wind Waker (my GC copy was ruined and I had a hankering and could get one cheaply) but Bayonetta 2, Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei, Smash Bros and Pikmin also had me sold.

I keep almost being sold on a Vita but then backing down when I realise almost everything I want is available elsewhere.

Final Fantasy XV and Metal Gear Solid V have sold me on next gen but no exclusives have yet so I have yet to purchase anything.
