Heading pretty much says it all...

Im looking for a game, not strategy or RTS. But pretty much anything else.

Also under the $20 mark would be nice :)

Thanks in advance for your untold wisdom

Cheers!

Wait 2 weeks, the Christmas sale will start and you can probably get 4-8 games with your $20.

If you've got Windows XP and/or a four-leaf clover lying around, take a crack at Bioshock. It stopped working for me after I played it for 13 hours, and I don't usually reach double digits with my Steam games.

...That doesn't sound very good, I know, but if you can somehow get it working, it's well worth it - especially if you happen to love Half Life.

This.

Or, by Trine 2. Released earlier in the week, $15, very enjoyable. Moreso if you can find a friend or two or play with... but it's great on your own too.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines of course (only because you have ruled out X-Com). You'll need the unofficial patch because it is a Troika game. DON'T PLAY AS A MALKAVIAN THE FIRST TIME THROUGH! Save that for a second or third playthrough. Oh, and have some clean pants handy when you get sent to the hotel.

Use it to buy Dungeon Defenders...Then gift it to me.

Still kicking myself for missing the daily deal the other day, I really want this game. :(

Killing floor is really fun, it's like left 4 dead but slower paced, and a lot more content.
Whaaaat? Killing floor is considerably faster than L4D?
If you don't have it already, I'd HIGHLY recommend Dungeon Defenders.

Go get Bastion; however, I would advise, like many others have mentioned, to just wait a bit for the big sale coming up.

Wait until Christmas. The games will drop prices like flies in gas.

Yes! -high five- In fact it's best to play as a Malkavian first, the dialogue is so interesting.

OT: Thirding VtM: Bloodlines :D

Now I think the advice is "dont play Nosforatu first." That hurts my head trying to think of how to play that officaly and unnofficaly. As in "I am an ugly beast....HALLO POLICE!" to "Now which way am i to go in the sewers? dammit i am lost....."

I think Malk is the perfect way. Aside from the fact most of the speech choices...were almost the exact words i would use. I dont think that being "Sane" and takeing in all this vampire Lore is a choice. Otherwise you look like your an Idiot. "Yes I am a sexy vampire! I just got turned an hour ago. I am fine with this!" Instead Malk is perceptive and insane...so even if they arnt alright with it...it dosnt show.

I can't personally vouch for Bloodlines, but I've heard terrific things about it, enough that I'd likely be getting it myself if I had $20 to blow on Steam.

Another game I'd be looking at is the aforementioned Bastion. Again, heard terrific things.

Wait for steam sale buy Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines supporter here. I was Malkavian first play through loved it. I run my steam game fine without any patch. I vote for a clean playthrough before the add ons and patch.
