What game was i playing?

a few years ago i rented what i thought was half-life 2 but recently i played the actual half-life 2 and realised that i must have gotten the wrong game before. I'll tell you what i remember and if anyone thinks they know the game i rented plz post

anyway all i remember is near the begining you're in a damaged facility that is quite dark with a few fires and some kind of survival horror monsters around and you use a severed hand of a scientist to unlock a hand-print lock.

sorry that there is so little to go on but i only played the first level and wasn't introduced to any characters or story that i remember plus it was at least a year ago and i dont have the greatest memory

well, sounds like a part of the game Alone in the Dark, but you said begining...
hmmmm... it does have a feature where you can skip ahead to any part of the game...

yea that was definetly the right game. its amazing how much less scary it is now, then again i was like 11 when i played it

edit and the narration is truly truly terrible
