Was there a video game you were excited for but ended up being canceled? If so what game was it?

A game for the Wii called "Sadness".

Also The Last Guardian. Let's face it, the game's been cancelled for all intents and purposes.

I'm going to have to go with Starcraft Ghost.. and I say that as someone who's never been into the Starcraft universe at all. It just sounded like a cool idea.

Of course, I'd also say Last Guardian but maybe, just maybe, that's still going to come out at some point.

Legacy of Kain: The Dark Prophecy. Really bummed when I found out they scrapped a sequel to Defiance that was supposed to have Kain traversing the Hylden realm fighting the Hylden Lord and Janos. It sucks even more that Eidos(or rather Squeenix now) have let this awesome IP go to waste. I've been hoping for a new LoK game for ages.

Yes, and most people who know me know which game I'm gonna say...
[HEADING=1]Megaman Legends 3![/HEADING]

The game was originally the entire reason as to why I purchased a 3DS, the other being that Luigi's Mansion 2 was being made for it. So I got it at launch and was helping out, submitting crudely drawn Reverbots and voting on the character designs. I was extremely excited because after 10 years I'd finally be getting another Legends game, and possibly closure for the series which is something I always want from a series. Then E3 2011 game, and my hopes were dashed by the announcement that Legends 3 was cancelled. Then Capcom of Europe's CEO drank the stupid juice that EA and Ubisoft have been drinking and said that it was cancelled because "there wasn't enough fan support" which just kicked dirt into my face.

Plus, there was the fact that the prototype that had been completed was not going to be released, leaving it that only one man outside of Japan has ever played it, and that was someone from Destructoid. So now I sit here, sad, that my first ever Megaman series still has no closure. Hopefully with Megaman being in Smash 4, and his final Smash including Volnutt, Capcom will see the stupid mistake they made and will resume development. But then again, I see that as likely as Nintendo removing region locks from their systems. :/

Two of them,

First The Four Horseman of The Apocalypse by 3D0, Lance Henriksen doing the voice of the player character archangel Abaddon, in a third person action game. :(

Second, Werewolf: The Apocalypse The Heat of Gaia

From what I understood at he time, it was nearly done or actually done when the plug was pulled.

I think it was called Command & Conquer: Tiberium. It was a mix between FPS and RTS. Looked to be really awesome, but the canceled development for some reason. Chances are the game would've sucked, but I would have at least liked to try it.

I'm sure they're are others, but nothing else comes to mind at the time.

Edit: Just thought of one. Star Wars: 1313. Playing a bounty hunter in the under-streets of Coruscant sounded awesome. But someone had to cancel it. *glances at Disney*

Six Days in Fallujah, just to see what it'd have been like. But to be honest, it probably wouldn't have been that fun anyway.

East vs. West, the Cold War grand strategy game being published by Paradox.

It looked bloody fantastic. But something went terribly wrong, and no one wants to give us any details on the matter. We can just hope that the concept gets another go sometime.

It was more or less a sequel to the Hearts of Iron-games, and well needed. They're great, but a new war would've been nice.

The agency. A spy mmo with stealth, FPS gameplay and a neat silly charm. It likely would have flopped, but I at least wanted to see it tried.

Mega Man Legends 3
Front Mission 5 (Well not cancelled but limited to Japan)
Metroid SR388 (Fan-make, but it looked great)

This one has interested me. I was quite curious about this game as well and now it was canceled.

Besides the likely cancelled (Beyond Good and Evil 2, The Last Guardian), I'm going to go with B.C. for the original Xbox. It was first party published open-world adventure game set in a prehistoric setting in which the player leads a tribe in the attempt of becoming the dominant species and build a civilization. It was extremely ambitious for it's time and had a great and under explored setting. I'd love to see this title revived in Microsoft's future.

There have also been a few Nintendo games such as Raven Blade (a dark fantasy action/adventure game by Retro Studios) and the original Dinosaur Planet (which did see the light of day as Star Fox Adventures, but I always found the original concept so much more appealing). Oh - and that cancelled Sabrewolf game Rare was developing for the Xbox. That looked unique and fun.

Super Mario 128. At least it split into two and became the Pikmin Series and Super Mario Galaxy... But I really do want a true sequel to Super Mario 64, which is my 2nd Favorite Game of all time...

I swear a game like this exists. I remember a C&C fps where you played as a lone GDI commando. You would find ways to infiltrate a NOD base (usually by hijacking the harvester and getting a free ride into the Tiberium Plant. Once inside it was just a matter of going into the command centre, killing a few soldiers and then calling in an ion cannon strike on the base before escaping.

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Renegade - This was the one I was thinking of.

My contribution is Prey 2. I remember seeing the CG cinematic (I believe it was showcased at E3) and thought it was the coolest shit ever. Space bounty hunter....whats not to like??!

For a while I was quite disappointed when Edge of Twilight was cancelled. Looking back now, I doubt it would really have been anything that special, but it looked pretty good in motion.

Actually, Miyamoto has said that Super Mario 128 is Pikmin. 128 was never meant to be a game on it's own really as it was just a tech demo. The stuff from that tech demo was what was Pikmin, while the spherical planetoids were used for Galaxy. The sequel for Mario 64 was also just called Super Mario 64 2 and not 128. 64 2 was cancelled for good reason though: N64DD was a complete failure.
