I'm going to say the original Halo: CE.

Story-wise, the game was well presented and very enjoyable despite being somewhat unoriginal. Gameplay-wise, the game was overly repetitive and relied to much on rather annoying and even confusing copypasta level design.

All of the .Hack games. Pressing x until everything is dead gets boring after a while.
Surely you mean the .Hack'n'Slash games. :) Have to agree with you though. The story and characters in those games were the only things that kept me going. Pushing X over and over and over and over...ugh. Stupid bonus 100 levels dungeon...

Mass Effect had a story about a trillion times better than its gameplay, but that's not saying much since it could be unironically likened to the works of Shakespeare.

Mass Effect 2, however, was rotten on both sides of the apple.
Oh my god! I love you, though the whole off Mass effect's idea was a ripoff of Aurthur C Clarke's "The Sentinel".

My picks would have to be FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus, Dark Void, Assassin's Creed, Red Faction Guerilla and Jericho.

not to mention all the other halo games as well.
Story in itself isn't even that great, but it is better than the gameplay.
Though I did enjoy odst.

-edit- Also the new alone in the dark. I lliked the story but the gameplay at times was really akward.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. The dialogue was typically pretty awesome, and the story was pretty interesting, but the combat just sucked. The ending(s) also sucked, because of all the combat.

Dragon Age: Origins's (360) focus on gameplay instead of focus on story, was terribly frustrating. Works so much better on the pc.

I kinda have to disagree with you there. In my opinion the sequels were the opposite of Halo: CE, having better gameplay than storytelling (excluding ODST, which I also enjoyed and in my opinion had the perfect balance of story and gameplay out of all of the Halo games).

Brutal Legend. The story is fantastic and origional, and the voice acting was great. The gameplay was usually good, it just felt like it had to make up it's mind about what do with itself.

The entirety of the Legacy of Kain. It is still my absolute favorite vampire story. Unfortunately, the games themselves either didn't stand the test of time (Blood Omen), were plagued by bugs and design flaws (Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2) or were literally unfinished (Soul Reaver).

If you want a well-told story with dynamite voice acting, go play any of the Kain games. Just don't be surprised if you aren't having much fun.

Mass Effect 1 is a huge sufferer from this, Mass Effect 2 at times suffers from this too, but Me2 is probably my favorite game of all time.

Impossible good sir! X button mashing will never get boring when there are inventive armies to hack through! But as for better stories than gameplay I can't truly say I usually either hate both or enjoy both, although Dragon age for 360 could get frustrating sometimes.
