If this logo was on the box, then odds are people missed out on this gem. Vanquish, Bayonetta, and MadWorld are amazing games that are woefully under-appreciated.

Additionally,

Valkyria Chronciles is amazing, and yet didn't sell enough to warrant a full blown sequel on a home console.

Guys, I think the topic is about what most players missed, not what you missed.

I kind of wanted to say State of Decay but sales numbers would sugest otherwise (most sites never reviewed it despise setting a new standard for survival sandbox games, yet games like Thomas Was Alone gets a wank fest out of everyone).

So I will say Crackdown, it wasnt just a Halo 3 Beta, it was a fucking awesome game.
holy crap i forgot about that old game, crackdown was/is the ONE sandbox game that i can play for fucking hours on end

plus when you get to the end and you are basically jumping over buildings by then, not to mention every other fucking rooftop has a gangster shooting homing missiles at you

that god damn higih pitch sound stills gives me chills to this day:

captcha: golly jeepers

you fuckin bet captcha

edit: and i think you're right, people are highly misunderstanding the point of this thread.

Wow, I can't believe Vanquish and Bayonetta didn't pop in my head immediately but Bayonetta is probably my favorite game this gen and Vanquish is the best TPS this gen, and both came out in the same year. Valkryia Chronicles is also one of the best games this gen. I'm playing XCOM now (and it's awesome) because it's free for PS+ users and it's kinda like Valkyria Chronicles but more strategic.

Some random thoughts:
- Mirror's Edge is the best 3D platformer I've played this gen
- Heavenly Sword was way better than God of War 3
- Metal Gear Online was by far the best online shooter this gen. It's SOP system was the biggest innovation for online shooters in a long time as Ghost Recon Future Soldier, MoH Warfighter, and now The Last of Us have incorporated it into their MP.
- MoH Warfighter is the best online FPS this gen (for consoles) as it has leaning and a slide and shoot mechanic. Yes, the single player was 100% pure shit but the competitive MP just blows everything else (like COD) out of the water.
- Journey is fantastic
- If Outland was a NES/SNES game, it would be revered as a classic platformer

Since i dont own a PS3 id say Uncharted series. Am dying to play Uncharted games eventually i will get around to it somehow someday.
Play Vanquish instead if you haven't, that's the best TPS this gen. I can only recommend Uncharted 2, which is great. Uncharted was just a tech demo (and a bad game), great graphics but nothing else. Uncharted 3 is very disappointing and average overall.

I too have to say Xenoblade Chronicles. It was my favorite game of this generation, but sadly, Nintendo completely mishandled its North American release.

Outside of that, most of the good games on the Wii could be put here, except for the games from Nintendo's major franchises. I haven't even gotten around to playing Pandora's Tower, and I was anxiously awaiting that game. The system was just a victim of poorly timed releases and lack of any major support from developers and publishers. Combine that with horrible controls (which most of the good games avoided like a plague), and you've got the making for a system with a lot of releases that were easily put aside for bigger releases on other consoles.

There's also the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. Outside of online forums, I still haven't met anyone who'd even heard of the franchise, much less played it. It's a real shame considering it was easily my favorite FPS series of this generation.

Vanquish comes to mind. I love that game so much that even though I initially rented it and completed it, I bought it for myself when I saw it on sale.

Games I missed personally? I still have to play through the Dead Space games. I purchased 1 and 2 last year but haven't gotten around to them yet.

Odin Sphere. That game is hands-down, the best PS2 game I ever played.

It hardly got any advertising, and EGM only gave a it a half page review EVEN when they named it Game of the Month.

To be honest, I'm not looking for any repeat games. I *really* want a new good IP. I'm tired of sequels, rehashes and reimaginings of old games. I'll leave nostalgia behind. Give me some great new IP that I can love.

And yes, it IS Reyn time.

Yeah, Xenoblade Chronicles was pretty cool. One of the longest JRPG I played too.

OT: Well I feel a lot of people missed out on:

Valkyria Chronicles
Bayonetta
The Last Story
Xenoblade Chronicles

All these games I feel didn't get the attention they deserved.

Valkyria Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles are probably my top two games this generation and I dont know anyone beside myself who played them and few who has even heard of them. Two classics right there that were mostly overlooked especially Valkyria Chronicles.

The Last Story was great as well but again being on the Wii meant it was largely overlooked.

Until 2-3 years ago I'd been a PC only gamer for a decade and was seriously missing out on Japanese games, getting a 360 to play Platinum Games, Ninja Gaiden Black and especially XBLA games was total bliss. The real biggy for me was the shmup genre especially CAVE 360 ports. I grew up during the arcade & 8/16bit era but shmups were never really a genre I bothered playing even back then, I guess it's because I didn't know that playing for the 1CC and score is what makes playing these games so enjoyable not just casually pumping a couple of credits and expecting to be allowed to win without practice and skill.

What I found really annoying is that just as I'm now rediscovered all these great games the world at large is moving ever further away from them, and gamers don't see the value in a £30-£40 retro game, it has to be a £5 downloadable no mater the quality or niche appeal it has, yet have the gall to moan when the dev moves to mobile making shitty f2p games because they can't turn a profit making traditional games. Sigh.. deep breath, sorry for the rant.

Also I missed out on handhelds as I only bought a PSP 3 months ago and a DS 6 weeks ago. I bought it to play SRPGs like Knights in the Knightmare and RPGs like Entrain Odyssey, I find their basic no filler approach to be so refreshing that my backlog grew by 50 and I've hardly turned on my 360/steam since. They suck for some action games though as the PSP nub and dpad suck and the DS lite cramps my hand using the d-pad for any length of time.

EDIT.

Everybody seems to always mention Platinum / SEGA games in threads like these, it just goes to show how bonkers SEGA are for almost going bust making new IP, yet won't follow up with sequels now they have a cult following.
