Would've liked to see the next step in the ICO-Shadow of the Colossus line, but that's fucking dead in the water isn't it?
Its not dead until the dev studio goes under.

Well, not a spiritual successor, but I'd like to see an actual successor for Beyond Good and Evil.

As for spiritual successors, I'd like to see one for ICO and perhaps a continuation or successor to the Jedi Outcast games. Other than that, nothing really.

The Tenchu series of ninja games. Damn those were fun, and I want to play more of them.

Thief. No I'm not counting last years reboot, it sucked.

Wing Commander/Freespace - More space sim fighter games with a story please.

Force Unleashed. The game mechanics were damn fun. Havent' felt so much like a Force wielding badass like I did in that game. The story was mediocre at best in the first game, utter shit in the second, but damn I loved smashing shit with the Force.

Jade Empire. Fun game, fun setting, fun mechanics. Would like to see more.

Oooh yes! I can't believe I forgot about that!
FREESPACE

Best flight sim ever made. Bid budget, big story, great gameplay. And then we can finally find out what happened to the Admiral.

Mega Man X (mighty No9 I don't think counts)
There's some great games in the series but the problem is the series is pretty much entirely dead and ...well most of the games are awful or crap. X3, X6-8 are all varying degrees of crap or just bland(X8).
I know there's some real mutants that like X3 & 6 but I personally could never play them again and would be happier for it. The only saving grace of X6 was it's music, while X3 couldn't even claim that.

X1 is a fantastic game and even had a pretty awesome remake on the PSP, great music, fun bosses and then the remake added in a entire mini-movie to just make the package even better.

X2 was also really fun, some don't like it as much and I guess I agree but I can't put my finger on why, because it's really fantastic in so many ways, expanding on 1 no less.

X4 was an incredible jump from the SNES games - I won't say it's better ...because I'm not great at having favorites but it really did everything right. Tight gameplay, cool cutscenes (with GREAT voice acting *cough*) entirely new visuals (something the Megaman series rarely did) and a Zero is finally playable! ...and is better in every way than X.

Dunno, been on a platformer binge and I really wish this series fared better. When they did the jump to 3D the series really just fell apart horribly. X8 tried to salvage it but, between really lack luster animation, disappointing sound effects, amongst other things it just didn't hold up.

Well, now that Konami cancelled the next Silent Hill... Silent Hill!

Also Forbidden Forest from C64. That game was a gem! (but C64 graphics are way more outdated than even NES graphics) I know there is someone out there that can make a more modern version work (unlike Forbidden Forest 3).

This is literally the full game:

But its most memorable moments are the death scenes (because you saw them a lot):

God, I'm old!

I'd like to see one to Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander. Those where some great games, but unfortunately the original came to and end and the other, itself a spiritual successor, had two great instillations which ended up with a third (ironically called Supreme Commander 2) which ended up with "Death by Streamlining" and caused the whole IP to die. Some people call Planetary Annihilators a spiritual sucessor to both, but having played the game I have to disagree.
I quite like Supreme Commander 2. But I confess I have no experience with it's predecessors, so I don't know how it may have made the series worse.

In isolation, supreme Commander 2 impressed me with it's flexibility. If you play something Like Command & conquer, there's really only a handful of strategies that are viable, and what usually ends up happening is a swarm of tanks...

IN SC2 I've done everything from set up an entirely defensive line, and take out the enemy using artillery bases. Used superweapons.
Old-fashioned rush of heavy units of some kind, (the walking ships are fun for that).
Aerial bombardment...

Sneak attack using the commander itself (only works if losing the commander is not considered a loss), creeping forward with shields and fixed weapons emplacements, trench warfare style...

And of course, the absurd number of superweapons that do all kinds of weird stuff...

That's not to say your point isn't valid, because I have no idea if it's predecessors did the same, or did some of it better, or what have you...
But still, a 'bad game' in a series as impressive as that one still outdoes the average for the genre by a decent margin.

Legacy of Kain and Manhunt are at the top of my list. Espescially considering what Eidos did with the 2013 Tomb Raider game I can imagine them creating another kick-ass Soulreaver game. This is such a cool IP. I assume since Eidos is part of Squeenix that they own the property now. Really wish they did something with it. I played the original LoK during the summer of 1997(though this was technically by Silicon Knights instead of Crystal Dynamics/Eidos) and immediately fell in love with the dark atmosphere and vividly written characters. In fact I'd argue the game(and SR1-3) still have some of the most finely written dialogue to date.

Manhunt I think is a much better game than people give it credit for. This game is a truly superb mix of stealth/survival-horror that had me on my toes more than any game before it. Would love to see a new-gen version.

I realise that Haunting Ground was originally supposed to be Clock Tower 4 and therefore a spiritual successor in a sense but I'd love to see a spiritual successor of this. And the original Clock Tower games. I love the concept of using your surroundings to your advantage and HG had all of that cool alchemy stuff too. Also, Hewie.

I loved Soul Blade/Edge as a kid but didn't real get into the Calibur series as much. I'd love to see a fighting games that keeps the weapon breaking from SB but with the inclusion of actual weaponless martial arts as well. Would be interesting if a weaponless character could disarm/'steal' the opponents weapon like something out of a movie or Wuxia novel...

For now, there is The Dark mod. It was once a Doom 3 mod but is now a standalone full game. It's basically Thief in everything but name, and has plenty of user made levels to go with it. I'd recommend checking it out, especially as it costs absolutely nothing:

Mainly this.

In other words, a space mech combat game with selection of various types of suits (they only used the Nitro- there are 5 others), lots of damage effects and detailed levels. My only real beefs with this one were lack of a save feature and that the final boss is kind of cheap, but those can be fixed with a new game.

Supreme Commander 2 in a vacuum wouldn't be considered a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, the problem however is that the game is, in every regards with the exception of graphic, a downgrade for the series. There are so many fewer strategic and tactical options available to the player compared to Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance as a result of change of the game economy, the massive reduction in the number of units, the shift in unit power, and the downright ludicrous shrinking of map sizes.

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with the game if it had been its own thing and separate IP, but due to the changes that removed what made the series unique in the first place, well lets just say the reason if flopped was probably due to, as one reviewer put it, the developers "fixing all the problems that no one wanted changed".

Ah well. That makes sense. As I said, I hadn't played it's predecessors. By the sound of it, if I had, I would've been disappointed.
But when you don't know any better... Well, yeah. It is pretty good in isolation. XD

Super Smash Brothers Melee type fighter since it's the only game with that type of fluent game play. Or just make it so it works online because that would keep many of us busy.

Grandia - Turn based, but with free movement on the battlefield. Haven't seen any game from recent years like it. Plus I loved the visuals.
Have you played Divinity: Original Sin? The combat in that was similar to how you describe. It's also cool because the fights happen in the world that you explore... you can see the enemies before they see you, and it gives you the ability to set the scene on the battlefield before you engage! It is a point and click WRPG though... so it's a bit different to the JRPG you mentioned.

Also Eternal Sonata had a similar system, where your turns were measured in small bouts of time where you had free reign. This is also a traditional JRPG you may like.

Resonance of Fate also had a free reign turn based battle system. It is JRPG, and focussed on the battles. It has a steep learning curve that takes a couple of hours to learn and get used to, but it is great when you get the hang of it... it is also a massively underated game for the 360 that was arguably one of the best looking games on the system!

OT: I would love to see spiritual successors to some of my favourite old PS1 and 2 games.

Tomba: Another awesome comedy platformer/adventure with fleshed mechanics would be awesome.

Dogs life: Yeah.. it was awesome when it came out. something completely different. Something similar and fresh would go down a treat.

Loony Toons: Sheep Raider. I liked it... alright? It was quite a cool little stealth/puzzle game. I miss games like this.

Robot Wars: Imagine the design options we could have now? Creating your meter tall death machine would be so cool! See if you can create a spinning disk death machine that can take on Razor, or the House Robots? Pure Bliss!

The Unholy War: Anyone play this? I loved it... Arena battles but with characters that differed so much it was unreal! I would love to have a spiritual successor to this... hell, it could even make a great MOBA!

Music 2000: If I had lots of money I would want to learn to mix and make tracks from samples... But I don't and I don't have the time. I would love something like MUSIC 2000 though, with it's easy to use interface, and the ability to make your own samples. Will never happen though because people would try and release their tracks, and copyright would be a nightmare, but damn it I miss this!

Bards Tale: Yeah... more games that take the piss out of their own genre... especially if they are as well polished as this!

Grandia was still different... It's hard to explain, and I can't give you examples except for the series itself. As I don't know of any game that had a combat system quite like it. Your character moved automatically after attacks/spells, you had an initiative system affected by your speed, you could interrupt spells and attacks, and even though it was turn-based it still felt fast-paced as well.

It's better to show than tell I think. Just...ignore the bad graphics and cheesy anime art style... :p
