Terraria.

Then I gifted it to him, convinced him to play some, now he's played over 60 hours with his wife (which he purchased soon after).
He purchased his wife soon after?

OT: Pretty much every game that is not a realistic online shooter, most of my friends are big douchebags.

Minecraft is a sad and seemingly common answer, I've had a couple of arguments with friends who thought it was crap because it didn't have the next gen graphics their console-accustomed eyes were used to. Another example is Monkey Island, because my cousin thought that it had a stupid name, and because of that, thought it was a stupid game. In both instances none of them had played the games.

Story of my life back in school, I hung out with (In a sense.) a group of Xbox Elitists who said that all Nintendo games ever were rubbish, using such arguments as "They just are" and "COD and Halo are better."

My teacher and I were talking about Halo: Reach in class (My teacher was an awesome gamer, he lent me Dead Space ^_^) and a friend (PS3 fanboy) comes up and says it sucks. "Have you even played it?" we asked. "No." he answered. *doublefacepalm* and he sat down. We won :3

See, it just comes down to personal preference. i can follow a ygo game, but with magic i simply get confused, or rather it doesn't appeal to me and thus i lack the motivation to get into it.
Both games have flaws and merits, and neither you nor me think the other guy is 'stupid', simply because we enjoy different style of card games.

And i didn't take your comment as an insult or anything like that, i'm not the guy who flies off the handle because somebody doesn't enjoy a game like i do. Also i understood your comment as a joke, just wanted to clarify a bit. ;P

You and me buddy, are the representation how this should work out. I assume you atleast watched a ygo game, or maybe attempted to play it, as did i with magic. Neither of us begrudges the other for playing something different, and nobody is needlessly upset about something like games.

I have had almost every game get bashed by a friend without them playing it. Funnily, all of them were from one friend. Then, my best friend told him his opinion of it and suddenly he had the exact same opinion. This is how it goes for every game.
Also, he is opinionated as fuck. I can just go up to him and say 'World of Warcraft' and he starts shouting 'SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT...'

Once in a class, everyone was talking (INCLUDING THE TEACHER) about Dead Space 2. They were acting like it was really fucking scary, and I just scoffed and said that they haven't even seen a scary game if they think that. They then accused ME of not playing a game, just before saying Amnesia wasn't scary at all because- and I quote here- "I saw some youtube videos of the Justine DLC, and it's so boring".
FUCKING YOUTUBE VIDEOS. They weren't even the main game, it was half a walkthrough of the non-scary DLC. Probably the walkthrough that has the actual monster removed, too.

*EDIT*
Now that I think about it, every friend I have has done this to me or another friend at least several times except from my best friend. I guess this is why I call him my best friend.

Transformers: War for Cybertron. They bash it because they think it's a movie tie-in. Fuck that, it's not. And it's awesome.

I hated Oblivion when my girlfriend originally bought it, and I really didn't get it. xD

.... And then I made an assassin Argonian. ... Now I can't wait for Skyrim.

On the other side, I've had people hate so hard on Minecraft just because of graphics without ever playing it. -.- I even showed them mods, texture packs, and the creations I'd made in it, and they still couldn't get past the graphics aspect.

OT: Borderlands and TF2.

My friends said it was shitty cartoon games.

I love both...so ya :p
Even though Borderlands has the sell shading, I don't consider it all that cartoon-like.

It could be all the blood and body parts flying around.

--------

For mine, it actually comes from when I was at a friend's house at a get together, playing Borderlands over a LAN box. I had gotten a headache after a couple hours, and said I was going to take a break while it cleared up.

After about an hour my headache started to go away, but I still didn't feel like playing Borderlands again, so for the heck of it I started playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time: Re-Shelled.

One of my friends laughed at me and said, "Really?!"

I see nothing wrong with it. I like playing many different kinds of games, and I liked the Ninja Turtles when I was a kid, and during that time played the second game on the NES to death, which I also have on my 360 now as well. It is solid hack and slash fun.

So I was talking to a friend the other day and I mentioned I'd been playing minecraft and the response I got from him was "That game is completely S**T, Even the graphics are horrible."
so I replied "Oh... I didn't know you'd even played it." He blurted out, rather quickly, "Oh... Well I haven't played it, but I've seen pictures of it."

At that point, I wanted to punch him in the face. It just bothers me when people make judgements on a game they've never played. I can understand it if it was part of a series and you didn't like the game series, but when it's an original IP and the first of its kind, It really annoys me.

So my question is this:
What games have your friends insulted, without even playing them?
Tribes... the whole series
just because I said I liked it more then Halo one day

My best friend is baffled by my obsession with Dwarf Fortress, but I find it hard to hold it against him. It's not exactly an accessible game. In fact, it's about as accessible as Fort Knox, if Fort Knox was suspended over a magma vent and covered in rum, blood and vomit.

I'd been playing R-Type on XBLA and the next day a friend of mine who it should be noted plays almost exclusively COD (which is his prerogative), having never even HEARD of the game, asks me "what was that crap game you were playing last night". Nice. Another guy I knew years ago told me Monkey Island was boring, again having never played it, before years later playing some of the series and finding he quite liked it after all.

Not Minecraft, but actually every Indie game EXCEPT Minecraft. Braid comes to mind.

Friends looked at me funny when i mentionted that i enjoy the Ace Attorney Series.
Or that i was playing a yugioh game on the gba, because the card-came aspect is quite enjoyable to kill some time.
I had a Yugioh gaem for GBA once. I went online and filled my game with card codes. When you have four complete Exodias in your deck, you win about 99% of the time.

I had a friend tell me he didn't like teh fable games, when he'd never played them. Granted, it seems pretty divided as to who likes them, but I thought it was unfair that he was being judgemental about a series he had never played for himself.

AWWWWWWWWW MAN!

Assassin's Creed 2. Don't even get me started. That game was accused of being re-hashed and more boring that the original. How wrong they were. My 7th grade Social Studies class talked about how INACURRATE it was. The game could provide a better reprentation of Renosance Italy then you could. Periods.. The teacher says it was all about blood, guts, and murdering. (Which is true in some league) But he was wrong. It's about murdering evil people. Hence the CREED in the title.

Why not get something that isn't such a rip-off, like Left 4 Dead 2?
*raises hand* I think I got it :D

OT: Any wrestling game I buy.

Friend: You shouldn't buy those things. They just add tiny difference then charge full price for it every year.
Me: So why do you have FIFA and Madden NFL?
Friend: Cause those things get better every damn year man!

I believe my friends have a similar issue to your L4D2-loving friend.

I have a friend whom I can barely call a gamer anymore. He loves RPGs like I do, and actually has a decent stack of them; he also bought a Wii like a year or so after it came out and has openly admitted to loving the Zelda series. I bought him Wind Waker for a christmas present three years ago, he has yet to touch the thing. I've tried to force him to play DQ8, Okami, Tales of the Abyss, and a few others, but every game he borrows he barely plays through the first hour before giving up and returning it to me.

The sheer level of aggravation is unbelievable, and is only compounded by the fact that despite him "claiming" he never has time to play games, I constantly catch him watching movie after movie, TV series after TV series on his computer.
